  1. All of this sounds very childish. If anything, she's trying to get a reaction out of you, and it looks like it's working. Try showing kindness to her, even if it may seem ridiculous. It will make a better person out of you, and maybe convict her of her attitude. Obviously, she admires your style... turn it around for something good rather than the dissention...
  2. watch out! Raw chicken sometimes can be processed with broth and the pesky "natural flavors"!
  3. Yeah... I thought of that. I think if I toast anything while I'm there it will probably be on a clean pan in the oven. Where can you find the toaster sleeves, though? I've heard about them once before but keep forgetting to look.
  4. I posted a topic about chicken the other day. I still haven't found any conclusive evidence, but I got people talking about it. I want to know too! https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...rt=#entry518117
  5. Thankfully, there's a Whole Foods-type store ("Earth Fare") really close to their house. The first things on our agenda is to make a stop there to pick up any specialty items for me. Thanks for your helpful (and thorough) suggestions! Hopefully they won't be too overwhelmed by all my sudden special needs.
  6. I just happened to notice that the raw chicken breasts I've been buying out of the meat case at the store (usually Tysons, but sometimes store-brand) are "minimally processed" with broth and "natural flavors". Does anyone know if this should be a concern? Is all fresh poultry prepared this way?
  7. Hi all, I'll be visiting my out-of-state family in April for the first time since I was diagnosed a couple of months ago. My mom wants to do her best to ensure that my health is not in jeopardy when I visit, but she needs a little coaching. She is planning to make sure that anything that I eat is cooked separately, on new or undamaged cookware, and she...
  8. I've started making my own popcorn the old-fashioned way...on the stovetop with a little oil. Tastes so much better than microwaved and a lot healthier. Plus, you have a better shot of knowing exactly what you're eating. After doing the stovetop thing for a while (even before I was gluten-free), I had some microwaved, which just tasted overly salty, AND it...
  9. How do you know for sure if you are suffering from candida issues? Are there specific symptoms? Is there a way to test for overgrowth?
  10. There are other foods in the Bible mentioned positively which some people have negative physical reactions to (fish, milk, etc). I believe that because of the fallen nature of the world we live in, and our imperfect bodies, that it's just one of the issues that we have to deal with in life. Paul mentioned the "thorn" he had, from which God would not allow...
  11. Hey guys, I just made it through the big midwest winter storm, thankfully without losing electricity, but it got me thinking about what I would do if stuck in my all-electric apartment with no power. I need to have an emergency stash, but what are some "safe" foods with long shelf-lives that you wouldn't necessarily need to cook in an emergency? I know...
  12. Thanks for the reminder!
  13. Thanks for the warm welcomes. I by no means want to start theological debates, or break any forum rules. I just think there is something to be said about having that extra encouragement from other believers who know exactly what this experience is like. I can easily get bogged down and overwhelmed with things that happen in my life, which is when the Lord...
  14. Just looking for celiacs who are brothers / sisters in Christ. It would be awesome to have an even tighter group to turn to for support!
  15. Yeah...that's what I figured too. At first glance, it makes you think of the "no added sugar" line.
  16. I noticed that the label on my calcium supplement (Meijer - "Naturals") says "No Added Gluten". I'm wondering about the word "added". The ingredient list doesn't seem to have any gluten containing components, and there is only a warning about soy. Has anybody seen this wording before on anything else?
  17. You have to ask for it, but they do have one! I live in Louisville, KY, and the Red Robin (at Mall St Matthews) also cooks their french fries in a designated fryer. You will have to order them plain, since somehow their garlic and Red Robin seasonings contain gluten, but I'm thrilled enough just to be able to eat "normal" comfort food.
  18. The other day I had a frozen meal by Gluten Free Cafe. It was about $5 (twice the cost of your normal glutenized TV dinner), but it was actually really tasty... rice noodles with veggies and cheese sauce. I've just started on this diet myself, and I don't plan to spend a lot of money on "specialty" items, but I know that brand is good in a pinch.
  19. Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions! I'm looking forward to trying them out.
  20. I had my EGD biopsy done yesterday, along with a colonoscopy. It was like taking a very deep nap. I woke up briefly during the procedure and could hear my Dr talking to somebody about some bar he went to (nice ), but then i was out again. Nothing traumatic about it at all. I had a scratchy throat w/ a cough yesterday afternoon, but I'm much better today.
  21. I was diagnosed just yesterday. I'm so glad you guys are out here! I'm well aware that my entire life is about to change drastically. I need help. I'm a single adult with little time during the week to devote to cooking, and I know this diet can be hard on the budget. Does anybody have any tips for eating economically? Are there particular meals that...
