I agree that Glutino is a pretty close substitute for Ritz. They're pretty good crumbled over broccoli casserole too. Lately I've been craving a big fat restaurant cheeseburger with a toasted (wheat) bun and steak fries.

Will you share the list? I'd be interested to know... -
ARCHIVED Rudi's
heatherjane replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Rudi's has been around for awhile and makes gluten-containing breads as well. You just have to pay attention, because some stores will mistakenly stock gluten free items and their gluteny counterparts right beside each other, if the stocker is not paying attention him/herself to the packaging. The Rudi's gluten free bread is certified gluten free. Sorry... -

That info is from a year ago, so it may be wise to double-check just in case. -
ARCHIVED Popcorn Kernels
heatherjane replied to Ruth Talbott's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Popcorn can be a little tough on a sensitive digestive tract. In microwave popcorn, the oils, flavorings, and preservatives alone make me sick - doesn't matter if they're gluten free. I started making old school popcorn on the stove a couple of years ago, and it tastes SO much better...and it's healthier! -
ARCHIVED These Articles Are So Funny!
heatherjane replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not sure what to think about this article. It's intersting how they say that only a small percentage of the population can't tolerate gluten. They obviously have no clue about how common the disease really is. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Is So Humiliating Sometimes
heatherjane replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry about your experience. I love to salsa too...it's one thing that makes me feel good about myself and forget about my celiac. Don't let one rude person steal your joy in it. -
ARCHIVED Rudi's
heatherjane replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Rudi's I got was on sale at a natural foods store for $5. I'm not sure what it was marked down from, but that was a local store that tends to have higher prices. It may be normally cheaper at a place like Whole Foods. I haven't seen Rudi's at my Whole Foods yet, but the Udi's breads there are like $5.69 or something for a loaf. -
ARCHIVED For Those Of You Who Use Afterglow Cosmetics...
heatherjane replied to heatherjane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree that sometimes we have to take TV medical advice with a grain of salt. Thanks for the reminder. I have acne-prone skin and am also trying to stay with natural makeup to get away from all the chemicals. I ended up buying Almay's natural foundation this weekend as the ingredients looked ok, and it was a little easier on the budget. We'll see... -
ARCHIVED Rudi's
heatherjane replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I LOVE Rudi's bread.... it's so much better than Udi's in my opinion. It's great toasted as it stays somewhat soft... not like styrofoam. It also tastes like real bread, and it's sooo good with butter. I can't speak to having reactions with it though, as I do fine with both Rudi's and Udi's (love sayin that ). It does say on the Rudi label that it... -

wow - nothing is safe Thanks for the two cents! Does ZuZu last for awhile or do you have to buy more every couple of months? -

heatherjane posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
...just wondering how long the foundation lasts. I've heard good things about it, but I can only justify spending $30 if I know I'll still be using the same container after several months. Anyone? -
ARCHIVED Visually Most Repulsive Gluteny Food
heatherjane replied to mushroom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have a new one to add to this list. Denny's has a "Fried Cheese Melt". Just looking at the picture makes me want to run loose my lunch: fried cheese sticks smothered in American cheese, between two pieces of toast and served w/ fries. *urp* -
Whenever I have guests that bring over food with gluten, they aren't allowed to bring it in my kitchen... they have to prepare it/eat it at a table in my dining room (which is wiped clean thoroughly after). Can you do the same..quarantine the gluteny food to a specific location, like a card table away from the kitchen or something? If the weather is nice...

ARCHIVED Natural Flavours Vs. Natural Flavourings
heatherjane replied to meatslayer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To me, it would seem the only difference between the two is the verbiage used on the label...I think it depends more on the product itself. "Natural flavors" can sometimes include hidden gluten, but sometimes it doesn't. I'm sure that it would be the same with "natural flavoring". Those are instances when you have to research the company or just rely on common... -

ARCHIVED E.D Smith
heatherjane replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you in the US? If a product is manufactured in the US, they are required by law to clearly identify indgredients derived from wheat, since it is considered one of the 8 major allergens. -

I agree. Many companies are just trying to avoid legal issues. I've learned that sometimes you just have to use common sense when deciphering their responses. -

I haven't had that brand, nor am I am big jam/jelly person, but Welch's website says that all of their products are gluten free, which would include their jams/jellies. It sounds from E.D.'s email that they try to take good precautions to avoid cross-contamination. (I'm actually impressed that they took the time to explain their cleaning process). I think... -

ARCHIVED Erewhon Info ?
heatherjane replied to Rizz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Double-check the box and make sure you have the one that specifically says "gluten free" on the front. They have a another crispy rice cereal that uses malt and is in similar packaging (I may be wrong, but I think that one is labeled "wheat free"). At my Whole Foods, the two kinds were stocked right next to each other, so you have to pay close attention. -
