  1. #1 I use Giovanni organics and some Shikai shampoos/conditioners are also safe. You can get these at Meijer. #2 Crest is safe. I also use Colgate sometimes. #3 Softsoap, Method #4 Gillette is probably ok if they say there's no gluten in it but don't test. Most companies don't test for gluten, so they're just saying that for legal reasons. #5 I use...
  2. I think you're speaking of Beautiful Curls, which is gluten free. The "not verified to be gluten free" just sounds like a CYA to me. It's probably fine if you don't see any gluten ingredients on the label.
  3. They have some info on their website: Open Original Shared Link
  4. You're right! I stand corrected. I just looked up the body scrub and "hydrolyzed wheat protein" is in the ingredients. Obviously, things have changed. But...it's nice that they've taken the guesswork out of things by putting gluten free on the labels now for the products that actually are. It used to be just their Organics line where it would state...
  5. Have you checked with Desert Essence and confirmed that they have gluten-containing products? I know their labeling has changed recently and some labels state gluten free and others don't. I checked with them before the label change, and they told me that they don't use gluten ingredients in anything but didn't label some products as gluten free because they...
  6. Yeah, I realized that after I posted, but the link I provided has no sugar listed in it at all. Not sure what it tastes like, though.
  7. The book, The Paleo Diet, has a recipe for ketchup. I can't remember the ingredients off-hand, but that could be an option if you are willing to look it up. That diet allows no sweeteners except fruits. I also found this...no sugar listed at all: Open Original Shared Link
  8. I've been gluten free for almost three years and have ongoing neuro symptoms (tingling, dizziness, ear pain, etc.), and they all set in after I started the diet. I'm very strict and mindful about gluten/contamination, and my B vitamin levels have consistently tested normal. My ears are also supposedly fine. I've been to a neuro and an ENT, among others, and...
  9. I'm not aware of a gum that actually contains gluten, but stanger things have happened. I chew Orbit, Trident, and Extra and haven't had a problem.
  10. I found this link with a little further explanation on how canola oil is processed. Granted, it's from 3/2009, but maybe it's still accurate...Open Original Shared Link (Note: I think their statement that it's "not" consisdered gluten free is a typo and should actually say "now")
  11. If you're open to it, seek spiritual guidance as well. Most schools have some decent campus ministries that would be glad to talk through things with you. I agree with you that the world is pretty messed up. I have a great life and am very blessed, but the ways of the world can weigh me down easily if I let them. My relationship with Jesus is the one thing...
  12. Although I have thought about these things, I try not to freak out about it and just wash my hands when I am able. Otherwise, I might as well live in a plastic bubble.
  13. I've never tried their wheat bread (for obvious reasons), but their gluten free bread really is good. It stays soft after you toast it, too...great for grilled cheese
  14. I eat Rudi's gluten free bread all the time with no issues - it's my favorite. Even though they do not have dedicated facilities, their manufacturing and testing processes are very strict, and I trust them a lot more than some other companies. You just have to be careful that you grab the right package.
  15. Also, make sure that they cut your potato on a separate cutting board with a clean knife.
  16. A suggestion: if you have people coming over, why not make something easy that everyone can try? For example: Betty Crocker gluten free brownies. You don't have to be an expert cook to whip these up...add the ingredients, stir, put in the pan, bake it. That's it. (The gluten-eaters that I've served them to can't tell the difference.) And, yes, it is pricier...
  17. Glad I can help. Just to clarify, some people who are extremely sensitive will be put into the hospital by contamination, so I'm not saying that you don't need to worry about it at all. You will always need to stay diligent about avoiding crumbs and contamination and grilling the waitstaff for prep practices, but it will become second nature after a while...
  18. The paranoia is normal, but it will be easier to calm down after a time of experience and learning. It has helped me to remember that mistakes/glutenings are bound to happen, but I'm still way better off than I was when I first started the diet. You have a lifetime to get the hang of the lifestyle, so try not to let it make you miserable.
  19. foundation: Mary Kay medium coverage foundation eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara: cover girl; almay; maybelline (I haven't confirmed 100% that my eye makeup is gluten free, but I haven't had an issue.) lipstick: Lancome; L'oreal deodorant: Herbal Clear (not confirmed that this is gluten free but haven't had an issue) toothpaste: Crest shampoo and conditioner...
  20. Good to know. Thanks!
  21. Are the Lancome L'Absolu Rouge lipsticks pretty much the same as Le Rouge Absolu? I think I read somewhere that both were safe. I'm not sure what the difference is other than the name flip.
  22. I've been in the same dilemma lately because of an event I have coming up in a couple of weeks. I've been frustrated because a lot of the individually unpackaged tubes have no ingredients listed on them at all. I finally was able to retrieve the L'oreal gluten ingredients list that's floating around online, and then I looked up the lipstick on their website...
  23. They're just saying that for legal reasons. No one can guarantee that something hasn't been exposed to gluten. I use softsoap all the time.
  24. Take a break from the dairy for a while and see if that helps. You may be able to go back to it after some time. There are a lot of good alternatives out there that taste just as good, especially in regards to ice cream. I had a lot of trouble with dairy at first, so I went dairy free for about a year. Now I'm eating cheese and some ice cream again...
  25. I'm looking at the ones in my wallet right now and there's no mention to avoid vinegar other than malt vinegar. I guess you could say they are more conservative (one says to avoid modified food starch), but I don't see anything blatantly incorrect. Honestly, since it's often a gamble with restaurants and what they really put in their food, I'm ok if those...
