  1. Personally, I would still check those items that may have a tendency to be accidentally ingested. Shampoo and conditioner especially, since they could run into your mouth in the shower. I also watch out for lotions too, since the residue could be transferred to my food if it's on my hands before I eat. And with kids, things have a way of ending up in...
  2. It could be from gluten (anything's possible), but it could also be stress. Mine twitched for months during a stressful period in my life...no glutening.
  3. FYI - the original post is really old...hopefully their customer service still operates that way!
  4. We also have a google group...kinda like a local email discussion board: louisville-celiac@googlegroups.com
  5. Hi egallag, I'm in the Louisville group, and our meeting is this Thursday, 1/12 at 7pm at Baptist East. We meet in the Education Wing on the second floor. You don't have to be a member to come to the meetings. :)This Thursday is pancake/waffle night!
  6. I went under for mine as well. (I'm in the US)
  7. That's a corporate disclaimer to avoid legal ramifications. I think it really depends on the individual franchises. The Jason's in my area actually came out to our celiac group, brought samples and explained their precautions. The best bet is to contact the manager of your location and ask how they do things.
  8. Unfortunately, he is correct. You do have to continue eating gluten for your tests to be accurate, otherwise your body begins the healing process and makes celiac more difficult to spot. I'm guessing you don't have a scope scheduled yet? Was your doctor able to refer you to someone? I got in with my first GI appointment pretty quickly because my PCP office...
  9. Jestgar - would you mind sharing the recipe for your eggplant dish? That sounds yummy!
  10. The "Simply Caramel" version of Milky Way is also gluten free. It's closer to the original than Midnight.
  11. FYI - gluten in adhesives is a myth that has been going around the celiac community for years. It's not true. I get rashes from band-aids as well, but it's not because of gluten, and I do not have DH.
  12. IMHO - Rudi's bread is 1000x better than Udi's.
  13. Gluten may very well be your culprit. Are you going to see about getting a celiac diagnosis? If so, you need to be eating gluten for the tests to be accurate. If your doctor is not knowledgeable about the disease, try to get in with a GI who will test you. Everyone responds differently to gluten and has varying symptoms. The body also heals at different...
  14. If you're not going for another few years, who knows what restaurants will be like then. Things have been changing fast in the gluten free world for the better, so maybe by then places will be even safer and more knowledgeable. One can hope, right?
  15. Are you sure it's gluten and not something else in the ingredients?
  16. I was going to say, too, that you may have gotten sick from cross-contamination. I went to a Wendy's not too long ago and they were handling everything with the same gloves: buns, meat, and condiments...order after order. And crumbs are everywhere in a place like that, especially when they're busy. For a moment I considered getting a bunless burger, but not...
  17. Have you thought about talking to someone higher up in the Wendy's chain?
  18. No offense, but I am taken aback that people would actually plan to eat gluten just to experiment with reactions. Even if your symptoms aren't severe, it's having detrimental affects on your body. I'm with sandsurfgirl...it's not worth it.
  19. FYI - this thread is 6 yrs old and the info in it could be out of date.
  20. Thanks for sharing the info!
  21. I would say if they're giving you an updated list, then go with it! Some companies don't give us anything, so I say that's a good start. Also, it is rare that companies will test for gluten in their cosmetics, so their response about "trace amounts" is a standard disclaimer. And, keep in mind that lot of the info on this forum and the internet can be...
  22. And that combination of grains sounds so gross!
  23. You're only 2.5 months into this. Some people feel 100% better immediately, but others (like me) can take quite a while before they start seeing results. The best thing you can do is just be very diligient about avoiding gluten, but try not to over-analyze. Not every ailment has to do with celiac or food allergies, but if you're experiencing a consistent...
  24. If you like Bigelow, a lot of their teas are gluten free: http://www.bigelowtea.com/Catalog/Product/36/3/34/Green+Tea.aspx
  25. It may be best to start with the ingredients that you can't have and then narrow down by reading labels. Here's a link to help: /celiac-disease/safe-gluten-free-food-list-safe-ingredients-r181/ Basically, you need to check anything that could be intentionally or inadvertently ingested besides food: meds, vitamins, lip products, etc. I also make sure...
