  1. You haven't been gluten free very long, so your body needs time to heal. Eat as simply as possible until you know what you're able to handle...unprocessed fruits, vegetables, lean meats, plain brown rice, etc. It's boring and not always convenient, but it will help you feel better faster and also help you pinpoint if there are any other foods giving you problems...
  2. To answer your question, the chocolate is most likely fine if they are labeling it that way. That doesn't mean cross-contamination isn't a possiblity. Double check the label to make sure it doesn't say "may contains..." or "made on shared equipment with...." Really, it's your own judgment call. I'd eat the chocolate, if it were me.
  3. I had a 24 hour bug last week - not gluten related. Make sure you're drinking your fluids! (Gatorade is gluten free.)
  4. I have used Dessert Essence Organics, Giovanni, and Shikai brands for shampoo/conditioner. (Currently using Shikai.) I've also seen it mentioned on the forum that Garnier has some gluten free products, although I have not used them.
  5. Interesting. I used to get Old Hag, also, usually when taking afternoon naps, but not so much anymore. Not sure if it was gluten-related, though.
  6. I bet most of the people in the group have forgotten about it by now. Too often, we tend to think people are thinking about us all the time, when really everyone is concerned with themselves. That's the way of the world.
  7. The last time I checked, Banana Boat was safe, although I haven't heard the latest update. I use a lot of Desert Essence products. Their "Organics" line is completely gluten free.
  8. Just a quick word of warning to people trying Van's for the first time: their gluten free packaging is similar to the packaging for the regular gluteny waffles, and I've often seen them stocked close together at my grocery store. You just have to make sure you don't grab the wrong box.
  9. The Kinnickinnick ones are pretty good to me.
  10. I have a pack of plain M&Ms right here and do not see wheat listed. From what I've heard, the Mars company has a pretty good practice of labeling the 8 major allergens. Let us know what you find out, though.
  11. My guess is that they're gluten free, but the best bet would be to try to call the company and see what you can find out. I know some people have expressed frustration with Market Pantry products, but I don't eat them, so I can't tell ya. Symptoms can vary from person to person. She's just starting out on this diet, so her body is still adjusting. I know...
  12. It could be a labeling change. If you're getting conflicting info, I personally wouldn't risk it. The Endangered Species brand is really good and is certified gluten free. They donate 10% of their profits to conservation. Enjoy Life is another one; it's free of the 8 major allergens and is certified gluten free. I don't think it's as tasty, but at...
  13. I have a family member the Charlotte, NC / Rock Hill, SC area who has recently been diagnosed with celiac by a PCP and really needs a good GI to go to. Does anyone have a recommendation? thanks!

ARCHIVED Do I Go To A Specialist

The biopsy is considered the "gold standard" and gives you and your physician an idea of just how much damage has been done. it also helps diagnose if the blood test results are not conclusive. There are a lot of diagnosed and self-diagnosed celiacs who have not had a biopsy, though, so it's really between you and your doctor. In my opinion, it's good to...
  15. I use Burts Bees Super Glossy Lip Shine.
  16. A vinegar solution would work, too. Come to think of it, Windex has a formula with vinegar. That may be why you're getting conflicting info, if someone out there is operating under the notion that distilled vinegar is risky.
  17. Isn't windex just ammonia and chemicals? I wouldn't want to be breathing it in, regardless, but I wouldn't worry about it as far as gluten goes. Someone else may know, though.
  18. I would do more research to see if they're using certified gluten free oats, but I highly doubt it. Most likely, it's probably mislabeled, which is not good. Contact the company and see what you can find out.
  19. Dairy is tough on the ol' GI tract, so you may have to lay off it for a while. It's annoying, but it may help. I stayed off dairy for a year after I was diagnosed and now I do just fine with cheese and even ice cream. (I still haven't gotten around to drinking a straight-up glass of milk, though.) Depending on how long you've been gluten-free, you may need...
  20. I highly doubt it, but it would be more sanitary to use water, anyway.
  21. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but it may also be a good idea to get counseling for this problem, especially if you feel you can't control it. Your behavior really sounds like an addiction, and sometimes we need help beyond our own willpower.
  22. I use the Triumph cards all the time, and they've really helped.
  23. Hometown Pizza (in Louisville) also has a really good gluten free pizza and they are really diligent with their prep practices.
  24. No problem! Our meeting got cancelled anyway because of the weather. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
  25. I've been in the same boat. My vertigo started after starting the diet, and I've been gluten free for 3 years. I've been to different doctors, had different tests run and everything has been "normal". So, I have no idea what's causing it. I do sometimes feel like my ears are draining when my allergies are acting up, so that might be part of the problem...
