  1. Weird - maybe you're just eating too much, or there was cc somewhere. BTW, I've been wanting to know - do you live in or near Louisville? If so, you should come to our support group at Bapt East if you haven't already. It's a good group of folks, and we're having a cookout next month.
  2. What are you eating for lunch?
  3. I understand how you feel. In situations like that, I always try to eat a good meal before I go, so I'm nice and full and not starving. Then I'll get a coke or something when I'm there so I'm not feeling TOTALLY like the odd man out. I've realized that I need that social time, or I'll just be a hermit for the rest of my life. Plus, it helps to remind myself...
  4. If it's Walmart's Great Value brand, they have started labeling a LOT of their normally gluten free items with "may contain wheat". My hunch is that they're doing it more for legal reasons, but I stay away from their store brand items now.
  5. I would wonder too, what else you were eating while on vacation? Could something else have been the culprit? Also, Larabars are made with dates. Eating a lot of them in a short span of time could cause some bathroom issues, if you know what i mean.....
  6. I've had vertigo and other odd sensations off and on for the past 18 months... all which started after going gluten-free, and I'm extremely careful about my diet and possible cc sources. None of the doctors I've seen can explain why it's happening. The EMT says my ears are fine, and I have no vitamin deficiencies. I'm assuming it's stress.
  7. I don't have any kids of my own, but I do have two young nephews. The parents' behavior is definitely odd. It could be their ignorance of your diagnosis, or it could be a completely different reason altogether. I'm thinking though if the mom is truly OCD or very overprotective, that could very well be the issue. How do they act around other family members...
  8. I'm in Louisville: I recommend Lynn's Paradise Cafe. They're nationally famous for their breakfasts. They don't have a gluten free menu, per se, but they understand the concept of gluten free pretty well. (My celiac support group is actually going there for dinner in September.) Plus, the ambience and the quirky gift shop alone are worth the visit....
  9. Girl, I know how you feel. I'm Southern Baptist, and passing on the bread plate is kind of awkward. I've been gluten free for 18 months, and the good thing is people are starting to understand why I just take the juice, but it's still weird. I'm just thankful that God knows my heart, and that my salvation isn't based on whether I eat the bread. Anyway...
  10. My antibody levels were tested finally at near normal levels after 15 months from initial diagnosis. Definitely give it more time...your doc is too hasty.
  11. Keep in mind that the original post is 3 yrs old and things may have changed since then.
  12. If you're ok with going to Outback Steakhouse, I recently went to the one in Pineville (near Charlotte) and had a great experience. The manager (or assistant manager) came to my table, asked if I was a celiac, and told me that they get many celiac customers and knew exactly what to do. She made my meal herself. I've known that Outback was good about gluten...
  13. I've eaten them with no issue, but my symptoms aren't as severe as some people's, so there's always a chance that I can get glutened without realizing it. It will be interesting to see what they say. Keep us posted!
  14. I'm just guessing, but I wonder if they have email replies in template form, and that rep just replied to your email with it. I would email them back with her reply included and ask for further clarification.
  15. Thanks for posting the link! I found the gluten free stuff by just clicking on the homepage and typing "gluten" in the search field at the top right of the screen.
  16. Desert Essence makes a gluten free facial sunscreen in their Organics line. I can't remember it's free of aloe, but may be worth a look. It does well for me, and I have pretty fair skin. I hear California Baby makes a gluten free sunscreen too - again not sure of the aloe content. I also use Banana Boat, but that one does have aloe in it. I haven't checked...
  17. Hi! I'm traveling with my family in a few weeks to the Boone/Blowing Rock area in NC. Does anyone know of some good family restaurants around there? I think we found an Outback Steakhouse, but there will be at least one other night where we'll need to go out. Thanks!

    ARCHIVED "allergy" Testing

I live in Kentucky and got tested for food allergies a couple of months ago. Don't know what the legal issue is, though, unless it has something to do with what your insurance will cover. (They tested me for coffee which came back negative.) The problem is that skin tests aren't always accurate. I tested positive for a ton of food allergies, but my Immunologist...
  19. Hey connieb - are you in or near Louisville? I live there and I'm a part of the celiac support group that meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at Baptist East. Have you been? The website is glutenfreelouisville.org. As far as Rainbow Blossom goes... you can find most of the same stuff a lot cheaper at Whole Foods, and it's not nearly as creepy. Feel...
  20. Several years ago I had a random attack of costochondritis...inflamation of the sternum and ribs. It felt like my chest was on fire every time I took a breath. I went to the ER where they did a chest x-ray, gave me muscle relaxers, and sent me on my way. After a couple of days it went away as mysteriously as it came. WebMd says pain to the touch is symptom...
  21. Actually, they make their gluten free pasta in a gluten free facility - at least that's what it says on the box. It's quite possible that you do have issues with quinoa, since some people really do, but I'm wondering since you had such a rough reaction that maybe you got gluten somewhere else and overlooked it. Are your medications, vitamins, lip products...
  22. Just wondering...did you double check the box to make sure it wasn't the one that contained wheat? That company makes a completely gluten free quinoa pasta, but they also make one that is a quinoa-wheat blend. I accidentally picked up the wrong one at Whole Foods one time because they inadvertently stocked it in the gluten free section. They moved it off...
  23. Just in case anyone uses this seasoning: Open Original Shared Link
  24. One caution about BD's: the one near me keeps ALL their sauces on a bar in their labeled containers, and it's VERY easy for the the gluteny sauces to drip in the safe ones when people are ladling them out (a common problem at any buffet-style restaurant). I advised my server that this was kind of risky to have all the sauces next to each other and suggested...
