ARCHIVED Need Chocolate Chips
heatherjane replied to heatherjane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you! I'll have to keep an eye out for those. I remembered after my original post that Meijer has an allergen list that discloses gluten for all their store-brand products....so I got 'em from there. -

ARCHIVED Need Chocolate Chips
heatherjane posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I need a couple of bags for some gluten free Chex "puppy chow" I'm making for an event this Saturday, but I can't verify which regular brands are safe. I know the Enjoy Life ones are, but they're over five bucks for a 10oz bag. I've read that Nestle and Hershey have been good about listing gluten ingredients on their labels. Does anyone know if that's still... -
ARCHIVED Iga Anti-t.tg Levels Still High
heatherjane replied to Lisa79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
At my support group meeting last week, our resident dietician stated the following in a presentation: - The intestines can take up to 2 months to heal - 3-6 months may pass before the individual begins to feel noticeably better - Complete recovery can take up to 5 years in some cases I can't remember her source for the info (I can ask at the next... -
ARCHIVED Yikes! How Did My Personal Phone # And Address Get Onto My Personal Profile?
heatherjane replied to oceangirl's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Is it possible to have some kind of note somewhere that says that the personal info isn't visible to others (or maybe it's already there and I didn't see it)? That concerned me, too, the first time I viewed my profile. -
ARCHIVED Contact Lens Solution For Sensitive Eyes?
heatherjane replied to Crayons574's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is there really a possibility of contact solution having gluten-derived ingredients? That seems odd to me, but I definitely could be wrong. -
It seems like you've already gotten a great deal of info since my last post, but to answer your question, I live alone so I don't have the worry of sharing anything. But, I am using the same silverware from my gluten-eating days. I just ran them through the dishwasher and made sure they were free of scratches and caked-on food. You do need to avoid using...

I've heard that Dove is supposed to be pretty good about clearly labeling their gluten ingredients. I've also heard that all Softsoap products are gluten-free. I use the Giovanni (hair products) line and love it. I use Crest toothpaste. Also, check any lip products that you may use and any medications (glutenfreedrugs.com can help w/ meds). Basically,...

Master gluten-free baking and open a bakery of that sort! I GUARANTEE you would have clientele! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Ketchup
heatherjane replied to kimmeycat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I'm not mistaken, Walmart's Great Value Brand is gluten-free, and says so on the label. (It's also cheaper.) -
ARCHIVED Kroger / Boar's Head
heatherjane posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So, I was shopping at Kroger this morning, and much to my delight, there was this HUGE sign on the deli counter that said "ALL OF OUR MEATS, CHEESES, AND CONDIMENTS ARE GLUTEN FREE." I already knew that Boar's Head was great about labeling their gluten-free products, but it just made my day to see that big ol' sign posted for everyone to see. Word is getting... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know I've Succeded
heatherjane replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Let me seriously encourage you to find a local support group if you can. The one in my area has been a lifesaver for me. Hang in there! -
ARCHIVED 'strings' In Stool
heatherjane replied to leadmeastray88's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get those too occasionally, but I don't know what it is. I'm not eating stringy food that I know of, but I do have trouble digesting a lot of stuff. Still trying to figure that out.) I'm probably going to call the Dr this week to see if I can get in. I'm slow healing after 6 months on this diet. -
I'm not sure if this is celiac related or not, but every so often, I get this odd tingling sensation under my chin and along my jaw line. It's very faint, and sometimes will stop if I touch or rub that area, and then it goes away. I've had some dizziness with movement too, and it doesn't seem to occur at the same time. My doctor thinks it's just positional...

ARCHIVED All My Make-up, Shampoo, And Lotion Has Gluten!
heatherjane replied to ll79's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After realizing my occasional tendency to get shampoo in my mouth when I'm in the shower, I switched to Giovanni and love it. I've heard that all Softsoap products are gluten-free, at least they were as of a couple of years ago. -
ARCHIVED Need Chick-fil-a Fries Feedback
heatherjane replied to tfrankenberger's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The Chick-fil-a in our mall uses a dedicated fryer for their fries, but the one time I ate them I felt pretty sick afterward. Could have been just the grease, but who knows. -
Actually... McDonald's website DOES say that they are made with hydrolyzed wheat protein. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Celiac Comic
heatherjane replied to lilfrenchie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a gluten dream at least once every couple of weeks. The funniest one was that I was eating chips and salsa like a crazy person and looked down at the salsa jar, labeled with only one word..."WHEAT". Mmm! Good ol' Wheat Salsa! -
ARCHIVED Family In Denial
heatherjane replied to Gobbie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My family and friends have been supportive of me since diagnosed in January, but I think it's hard for them to grasp just how strict I have to be. Although they understand that I do have a real illness, sometimes I get the impression that they think all of this is really just in my head. -
ARCHIVED My Parents Are Asking How To Prepare gluten-free Meals...
heatherjane replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've only been gluten-free for a few months, but I know you need to be careful about scratched pots/pans that may have absorbed gluten. I visited my parents recently and they actually ended up going to Big Lots and bought a cheap cookware set that they use only for me when I'm at their house. That way, I don't have to stress about what they're using to cook... -
I used to eat oranges almost every day before going gluten-free. Now, about 30 mins after eating one I'll get a sharp pain in my gut. I laid off of them for a while because I thought it was a fluke, but once I started eating them again, the same situation happened. I'm wondering if it's just the acidity and now my body can't handle it anymore.

ARCHIVED So New To This Celiac Thing
heatherjane replied to Bethe444's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you haven't already, try to find a local support group in your area. I've been going to the one in my city, and the people there are really nice and very encouraging. Although this online forum has been a lifesaver for me, I think the best thing for me has been meeting people in person who've been dealing with this disease for decades longer than I have... -
If you can stand Wendy's, they have chilli and baked potatoes. (I know you say you only eat fish, so that may rule out the chilli, but just fyi. ) I just went on a 9 hour road trip, and instead of stopping at restaurants, I just packed a cooler of things that I knew were safe. You can take along all kinds of stuff: gluten-free bread, hummus, apples...

ARCHIVED Breast Tenderness?
heatherjane replied to queenofhearts's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I'm glad you found this post, even if it's old. I've noticed some soreness also, mostly underneath. I've been gluten-free for 3 months but just started noticing consistent tenderness a couple of weeks ago. There's no way that I'm pregnant, so it's a relief to know that it's probably nothing to worry about.
