  1. Could she have low blood sugar? I am borderline hypoglycemic and when my blood sugar gets too low I get nauseated and dizzy.
  2. Hmm. No circles here. And he never complained of headaches until he went gluten free. I'm going to do some research to see if he is deficient in some way nutritionally that I am not picking up on.
  3. He was retested for strep and it was negative. He's old enough that he will tell me if his throat/ear/whatever needs to be checked out. The dehydration is a good point. He doesn't usually drink except with meals so I need to push more water. I can't pinpoint anything in particular that is happening when he tells me that he has a headache. It does go...
  4. Thanks everyone for your responses. He does suffer from seasonal allergies and takes Claritan and Nasacort daily for that. The pollen IS high so maybe that is what it is, he's just never complained about headaches before and he is a very verbal, communicative little boy ) I pray that it is not early migraines. My husband has been plagued with chronic...
  5. Hi all, I've posted a couple of times. My 5 yo son was confirmed celiac in Jan 09 and has been gluten free for 9 weeks tomorrow. We have seen tremendous improvement in all aspects in his little body. I know it is working since his big distended belly is gone and his overall body has thickened out. He also has SO much more energy. I do have...
  6. I'm a new celiac parent myself so I can't offer much help, but I did want to welcome you and tell you that I hope you get the support you need.
  7. Yay!! What a great milestone. We are onlly at 8 weeks but I see so many great changes that I can't wait to see what a year brings!! Congrats to your family
  8. Thank you for your response. Jackson had a repeat bone age xray in December, he was 5.4 and it read 4.2 months. His first bone age xray was done at 3.3 and read at 2.2. The endocrinologist was the one who suggested the celiac panel after I told her that he had started complaining of bellyaches. She called after she got the GI's report and said that we...
  9. Hi there, and welcome! I am new myself so I am am still wandering ) My son's GI recommended the Danna Korn book "Raising Kids with Celiac Disease" and it became my second bible! I read it cover to cover in days and I suddenly felt less alone. It has tips on how to talk to your kids too. My 5 yo was old enough to "get it" but it still helped to have...
  10. My son was diagnosed with Celiac at age 10 and was always the smallest in his class by far (below 1% on the charts). After going gluten-free and getting his bloodwork negative, he started growing more, but no huge spurt and nowhere near catching up to his peers. At that point we investigated growth hormones, and he was a good candidate. He has been...
  11. I worry about it almost every day. My 5 yo son was diagosed in January. I have a 4 yo son that tested negative. At my 4 yo 4 year check up last month, he was in the 25% for height and he is currently 1/2 inch taller than his "big" brother. My poor 5 yo has just caught on to this fact and he is NOT happy. The GI said that now that my son is gluten-free...
  12. Thank you all for your help. I decided against the rice. I took some advice here and just made rice cooked with chicken broth and threw in some broccoli. He adored it I'm not much of a cook but am trying so I appreciate the input!
  13. We went through the same thing last month. My 5 yo was diagnosed in Jan. The GI said that we all needed to be checked out. We did do the blood test on my 4 yo and my 2 yo. They both came back negative. I don't know about testing a 2 month old.....that seems awfully young? Is the baby on formula or breastfed? 2 year olds are notorious for being...
  14. She could "just be acting like a two year old" ) Two year olds ARE difficult. I can say this because I've have one currently (negative for celiac disease) and lived through it twice before. HARD STUFF!! If you decide to do a trial gluten-free diet, make sure you do not get tested during that time. Baby needs to be on gluten for the test to be close...
  15. My five yo eats a lot of fish but this is worth considering as he has horrible eczema. I was hoping it would clear up after going gluten-free but it actually seems worse. Thanks for the info.
  16. I would definitely discuss it with her doctor. My 5 yo had no symptoms other than failure to thrive and a distended belly.
  17. I found a brand of Uncle Ben's flavored rice that did not have wheat listed in the "allergy alert". I called Uncle Ben's and a very help rep told me that the product did not have gluten, but that it was processed on the same lines as products that DO contain gluten". He did say that the lines were thoroughly cleaned after each product but that they could...
  18. My son's GI told us that just like in adults, weight can vary a pound or so. We've only been gluten-free for seven weeks tomorrow and my son has gained a pound, but to be honest he only got weighed last week because he had strep....I personally had not weighed him. The fact that he is growing in height is VERY encouraging!
  19. I think you handled it beautifully!
  20. I don't mean to be dim....but I am new to the celiac world....what exactly is a Dha Supplement and what is it supposed to do?
  21. The fact that you are so concerned about your child shows that you are not a bad mother. Can the endocrinologist do a Celiac panel? My 5 yo son fell off the growth charts at his 3 year c/u and we were also under the care of an endocrinologist. When he failed to grow during a six month period, she ordered a Celiac Panel. It came back very clearly positive...
  22. I saw those the other day. I didn't get them, however, as my 5 yo celiac son didn't like the Envirokidz cocoa puffs. He LOVES the Envirokidz Leapin Lizards cereal though!!
  23. Thank you everybody. Yes, it is VERY rewarding to see your child get better. I know that we have challenges ahead, but for now, after a month, it is nice to feel "normal" in our home and now where we all stand!
  24. I posted last month about my 5 yo being diagnosed with Celiac on Jan 8. He has been gluten-free for 5 weeks now and his massive, distended belly is GONE!! His arms & legs have thickened up. His belly aches and leg cramps are gone. We haven't noticed any growth yet but are hoping. He is my meat, veggie and fruit eater and has handled the transistion...
  25. I am so sorry that he had a hard time. That just breaks my heart. This was my 5 year olds first Gluten free Valentine's Day.....he's only been gluten-free for a month and is only in preschool two half days. We kept it simple and put a bite sized Snickers or a small bag of Skittles with his cards. I know hard times are coming, but my son, like yours handles...
