  1. Hello Kmama, My son's blood test also came back negative. His symptoms are also pretty obvious. He's 18 yrs old and wants to be a normal guy so he'll tell you he doesn't have celiacs. But given the choice between cheerios (and D) or rice chex, he'll eat the rice chex. He also eats my gluten free cookies and drinks my rice milk Most of the food...
  2. Hello all, I am also having a problem currently with cadida. How do I attack the cadida problem? Pre-diagnosis going low carb would kill it off but now I'm finding it impossible to do that. Many of the foods that made low-carb tolerable are no longer safe foods for me. I would be left with eggs, meat, lemon juice, strawberries, blueberries and greens...
  3. Hello Wolfmare, Let me lend you that support you've asked for. I do understand. Last night I dreamed that I was the editor of an online women's magazine for celiacs. While taste testing a blueberry-lemon bar recipe for an article, I realized it was not gluten free and began spitting it out, rinsing my mouth and listing in my mind all the things I could...
  4. Wow! You've got it tough. I'm still hoping that some of my allergies will subside as my intestine heals. This morning I'm trying hard not to itch my eye's. I tried ketchup a couple days ago and found it had enough celery to make my eyelids swell and itch. I can't imagine trying to avoid all the things you've listed. Are you able to use an antihistamine...
  5. Hello Stacy, Your signature says that you are allergic to corn. Why are you eating it? Sorry to give you my Mom voice but.......stop that! Eating things that you are allergic to will cause inflammation in your intestines making it painful to pass anything. Corn is hard to digest even if you are not allergic to it. I'm not allergic to corn but it...
  6. Hello Gaingus, My Immunologist would agree with the other answers you've received. He diagnosed me based on DH, D, family history and sudden onset of strong allergies to wheat, dairy, soy, barley malt, celery, sweet potatoes. Previous food allergy tests had been negative. My Mom is also a patient of his. She said, "This happens to all the women...
  7. "I also noticed that Tylenol extra strength helped to combat the illness, I figured it was lessening the inflammation in my intestine." Hello again, Just thought I would add this...... for inflammation a lot of us Michiganders are using tart cherry juice concentrate. Two tablespoons a day. It's yummy, all natural and it works! Please don't let...
  8. My reaction is lower back pain, I assume caused by the swelling of the intestine, coupled with feeling like I have to use the bathroom every ten minutes, yet either not having to go, or going very little. The anxiety combined with that reaction makes my lower back tense as can be, this results in the pressure of having to go. Hello Jordashe, Your reaction...
  9. Hello Inskababy, Have you tried (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) for a quick brand search? Then google the brands to find other websites that carry the same products to compare prices and shipping charges. Also, us celiacs are not that rare anymore. Maybe you could find another family in your area that would be willing to...
  10. Hello Kevin, You really need to find a dietician who knows what celiacs is. They will be able to help you design an eating plan that includes the nutrition and calories a young man needs while leaving out the gluten. Also, get your Mom involved. Make a menu and a shopping list from the menu. My biggest mistakes happen when I fail to plan ahead. When...
  11. I've been using..... a huge glass of hot water 2 tb. real tart cherry juice concentrate from Traverse City, MI (55 calories per tablespoon) 2 tb. real maple syrup (50 calories per tablespoon) as a desert/treat. It cut the cravings and I've lost about 10lbs. If you google tart cherry juice you will find articles about reducing inflammation. ...
  12. HHMMM I read an article about this celiacs dr. who's nurses kept quitting because of the stool samples he kept at the office! They were described as white and foul smelling. Are you sure you're not getting a little gluten into your system? Take Care, OptimisticMom42
  13. I know a lot of the parents on here will disagree with me but here goes nothing......... If you believe that something you are feeding your child is harming him stop feeding it to him. As we can all see from the thousands of postings on this site and others, it can take years of misery to get a Dr. to play along. A gluten free diet will not harm your child...
  14. Hello All, I was excited to see the videos on u-tube of Hasslebeck explaining celiacs and I have read some of Jenny McCarthy's work. I'm all for media attention to help raise awareness. But I keep thinking about how easy it was for the beef industry to take Oprah down. We have to expect the "whole grainer" food industry lobbists to fight back. Did anyone...
  15. Throw it at the ceiling, if it sticks, it's done My kids all like the rice pasta but if I have to cook wheat pasta I drop a peice on the counter and cut it with a fork. Take care, OptimisticMom42
  16. [quote name='Fiddle-Faddle' You wrote that you are seriously looking for good advice. I'm fairly sure that what I am writing here is NOT what you want to hear. But that doesn't mean that it's not good advice.
  17. Thank you for all your suggestions! I will definitely do the pea soup and coconut. I believe you are correct about there being different carbs. I need to do some more reading about low blood sugar and good carbs/ bad carbs. Do you have a useful link or book suggestion on this? Currently the cute little character on my WII fit is still telling me, ...
  18. 1. Baker's semisweet chocolate: I'm using enjoy life chocolate. Keep a little hidden in a jar in the kitchen. 2. Terra Zesty Tomato Chips: hmmm not sure if I've ever heard of these 3. Tostitos Scoops: gave up all chips, the oils change to frequently, I'm allergic to soy, and corn has been giving me headaches 4. Rice Dream Rice Milk: thanks...
  19. Thank you Princesskill, I do really like the idea of a food solution. And I really hated being called lazy even if it was just my bowel I do have some flax seed that I bought a long time ago. Does this stuff go stale? How much do you use and how often? What would a bad reaction to it look like? Flax seed, almond milk and berries would remain low carb...
  20. Hello mmmSmores, My sister always does the hosting and I'm always pleased to see fruit, vegetable and nut trays. It gives lots of one ingredient options. Happy Easter! OptimisticMom42
  21. Hello All, I'm not sure how to put this politely so I'm just gonna put it out there. Should a person eating a low carb/grain free diet poop less often? The reason I ask is that the gastro had me using Miralax "everyday that you don't have a bm" for my "lazy bowel". Do I need to have a bm everyday? If not, when should I start to worry? I had replaced...
  22. Hello Samcarter, Yep, I think the allergy was always there we just don't recognise themt until we got all the other ones out of our system. Like the wheat was making me so miserable I didn't notice I was having a lesser reaction to corn. Also after getting an allergen out of my system if I go back I over-react. After getting dairy out of my system...
  23. Hello again, Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Sounds like you are using a combination of the atkins diet and the elimination diet to figure it all out. That was the advice my dr. gave me even after the allergy test so you've probably saved yourself some time and money. However, I would still try to find a Dr. who is willing to look at your notes...
  24. Hello, This has been difficult for me. I'm allergic to dairy and soy and am finding that I don't tolerate corn or canola well. So I'm using coconut and almond milks and this weird recipe that was suppose to be mayo (olive oil, egg, lemon juice) as butter. The "mayo" is very creamy and yellow but melts at room temperature. It makes a baked potato look buttered...
  25. Hello, I just wanted to note that I have seen several posts on the net by people like you and I who went on the atkins diet and then were unable to go back to eating their old favorites. Have you seen an allergist? You may have intolerances beyond gluten. For many dairy, soy and nearly all grains are not tolerated well. Best wishes, OptimisticMom4...
