I live in Des Moines and am pretty new to this but you might check out the Central Iowa Celiac Connection website: Open Original Shared Link Barb Huyette is the head of the group I think, and I know she has contact info somewhere on the site, I just don't have the time to look for it right now. When I have some time I'll browse and post what I find. ...

ARCHIVED Abnormal Gallbladder- Symptom Of Celiacs?
Libbyanne replied to terribeth07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a similar experience - although I never really had any gall bladder attacks. I would have sharp pain under my right ribs - especially when I would laugh. I also remember having very bad D and nausea a lot. I went to doctor after doctor until one doctor finally did the HIDA scan - before that they had done an ultrasound and since there were no stones... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Migraines
Libbyanne replied to Nic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I never used to get headaches at all, but growing up both my mom and my older sister would get horrible migraines. After going gluten free (something I decided to do on my own even though in previous years blood tests have been negative) I've noticed that a headache (not a migraine though) is often one of the first reactions I have after being glutened! This... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice...long
Libbyanne replied to Suprmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So what do I do now. Do I just suddenly tell people I'm gluten intolerant? I know I'm going to get flack for trying to compair with my DS even though I really am not like that. What I really want is some sort of diagnosis from a doctor. I know this won't change anything but I feel that it would give me some peace of mind and put some weight to my words. So... -
ARCHIVED Startling Realization? Subway Bread.
Libbyanne replied to r0ckah0l1c's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for posting this question, r0ckah0l1c. I was questioning the legitimacy of my gluten intolerance as well after I had a sandwich from a place called Jimmy Johns - which uses plain french bread. I remembered it never bothered me before, so when I decided to go back on gluten (to get tested) that was the first thing I ate and I didn't seem to have any... -
ARCHIVED I Was Off Gluten For 3 Weeks But Would Like To Get Tested
Libbyanne replied to Libbyanne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the info, Karen. I'm not sure I'm up for 3 months...especially during swimsuit season . I've requested to have all my lab results sent to me so I guess I'll start by making sure they tested me correctly and go from there. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
Libbyanne replied to darkhorse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Darkhorse! Any chance you can update us on what you decided as far as going back to gluten or if you've had your tests? I am in the same boat - been gluten free for 3 weeks but recently started to add it back in so I can get tested. At first I was excited to eat pizza again (I hadn't made it far enough to bake my own gluten-free pizza yet) but now... -
ARCHIVED I Was Off Gluten For 3 Weeks But Would Like To Get Tested
Libbyanne posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been tested for Celiacs before (maybe twice) via blood tests but was always just told the tests were negative. I never saw my actual results so I don't know if they were high or if they tested for everything necessary. After dealing with "IBS" problems for years (and now realizing all the other problems I have that are related - nightmares, vertigo... -
ARCHIVED Testing For Non-celiac Gluten Intolerance
Libbyanne replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks so much for sharing!!! When I told my doctor I thought I was gluten intolerant he basically scoffed at me and said "well there is no way to test for that". I think it's time for a second opinion... -
ARCHIVED Oops. Mixed Up Doritos
Libbyanne replied to CtheCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for posting this! I'm new to the disease/intolerance (haven't exactly figured it out yet) and I remember a friend telling me Doritos were okay (she has 3 kids with Celiacs). So, on a binge I grabbed a small bag at the gas station this afternoon and scarfed em down without even bothering to look at the ingredients . Then, as I'm down to the crumbs... -
ARCHIVED I'm Confused? Is It Ibs Or Celiac?
Libbyanne replied to punt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is my question too! I went gluten free for three weeks and still was having some of my symptoms. My doctor (who is very skeptical that I am Gluten Sensitive or have Celiacs) really wants me to do a colonoscopy to test for Crohn's. I'm not against doing this and have decided I will but I would like to kill two birds with one stone and have them do an... -
Also, (I tried to edit my reply but I don't think it worked ) I didn't have any stones either! Ultra sound was negative for stones but the HIDA scan showed my gall bladder was just functioning at a very low level. I had very sharp pains below my ribs (especially when I would laugh) I had been given every excuse from the doctors from the pain being because...

Jen - I want to give this advice but keep in mind I am no doctor and everyone's body is different so don't only take my word. If I were you (or if I could go back in time) I would do some more digging, get some more opinions before removing the gall bladder. I had mine taken out about a year and a half ago and now that I've recently found out (or at least...

ARCHIVED Surprise Benefits Of Going gluten-free
Libbyanne replied to mikehall117's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
mamaesq - I'm not sure where you live but I know most Olive Garden's have a Gluten Free menu and it's good stuff! I've ordered off it twice with no problem! This link should take you to the gluten-free Menu - Open Original Shared Link so you can either look it up online or, if you're at the restaurant just ask the server for their Gluten Free menu. The servers... -
ARCHIVED Do You Get Canker Sores Or Chapped Lips?
Libbyanne replied to PeachBlossoms's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been gluten-free for a week and woke up with a canker sore this morning (had accidentally ingested gluten the morning before in my breakfast - maple syrup on gluten-free Waffles ) I can't remember the last time I had a canker sore. That is the second time I've ingested gluten on accident so far and it seems my list of reactions just keeps getting longer... -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
Libbyanne replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have a question about the vitamin topic. I'm pretty new to this, only 1 week gluten-free. I felt great the first few days and have been "glutened" a couple times (on accident) in the last few so I attribute that to my headaches/fog/chest pains/stomach problems, etc. Anyway, I recently picked up a multi-vitamin (gluten free) and my question is, should I... -
ARCHIVED Possible Crohn's Or Refractory?
Libbyanne replied to duckface2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Has anyone else heard that it's not possible for someone with Celiacs to have Crohn's? And if so, does this hold true for someone who only has a Gluten Sensitivity? I was tested in December '08 for Celiacs and it came back negative but these last few months all my symptoms got worse. My doctor never mentioned cutting out gluten but wanted me to have a colonoscopy... -

ARCHIVED Surprise Benefits Of Going gluten-free
Libbyanne replied to mikehall117's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been tested for Celiacs a few times over the past 5 years or so while trying to figure out what in the world was wrong with my stomach. The tests always came back negative and I left it at that. I just recently decided to try going gluten-free (about 4 days ago) and I noticed the difference IMMEDIATELY! It was only then that I realized how much pain...
