ARCHIVED Privacy And Your Feelings About It?
seezee posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi I have an eleven year old daughter who was diagnosed with celiac about a year ago. She decided that she prefers to keep this information private from her classmates at school and only tells her close friends or others who need to know (eg waiters in restaurants or parents of kids when she goes to their houses). For some reason (unlcear to me?) her teacher... -
ARCHIVED Recent Diagnosis And Diet Change, Now She Is Super Emotional
seezee replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think that's from gluten withdrawl - I think your body feels crappy when you start. My daughter went through the same thing for a few weeks after we started the diet. My nephew has celiac too and my sister said this is not unusual. My daughter was just a basket case for a couple of weeks. She was moody, emotional and angry, but then after about two weeks... -

ARCHIVED Iga Levels.. What?
seezee replied to alap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are going to Children's hospital in Boston I suggest you make sure to work with the celiac specialists. They are wonderful. We went there and the first appointment they will re-do the blood work and talk to you about symptoms. They use a lab in Buffalo. We go there. Also you can read this: https://www.celiac.com/articles/57/1/Interpretation-of... -
ARCHIVED How Long After Diagnosis Did Your Child Start Gaining Weight?
seezee replied to ach's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Daughter was 10.5 when she was diagnosed and started gaining weight again within a month I think she had put on 6 pounds. She is still pretty slim but within normal for her age and height. The pediatrician tells me that kids are heavier in general now, so normal looks thinner. My daughter has always been super tall, but I am 5' 9 and her dad is 6' 4" so that... -
That sounds good. For sleepovers I send her with a microwaveable dinner and she has gluten-free hot breakfast cereal that she makes. It's mostly that her friends' parents ask how they can do it without me sending something. They're trying to be nice hosts. So far, we just have said it's not really a good idea. Her best friend's family has a cabin up in Maine...

What is the best way to help people cook who want to invite my daughter over for meals. We are almost a year into this and I generally feel it's too much to ask, but her friends' parents offer and want to take her places without me (she's 11). Is there a good resource I could give them that's not too lengthy. Something like "How to Cook for Your Celiac Friends...

ARCHIVED Celiac Kids And Sports
seezee replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just during practice and it is just that she isn't quite as strong, but she is getting better and stronger. She is usually very hungry but quite perky after practice. People also say her skin looks better and she has gained about 12 pounds. She is still kind of a toothpick, about 5' 4" tall and 90 pounds, no body fat. Does fibromyalgia run in families... -
ARCHIVED Stomach Aches Still
seezee replied to Mother of a Celiac's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Everyone told me that it takes about six months to a year to heal. My daughter had terrible stomach pain about two months or so after starting the gluten-free diet. It was weird because she hadn't really complained too much before that. Anyways, they xrayed her and she was full of stool. The doctor said this is common. That took a few tries to clear up. They... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Kids And Sports
seezee replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed last June 09. She is really athletic and got really weak. She is slowly recovering and is able to play sports. She never stopped, but her strength and stamina have been not as great, but she definitely keeps up with kids her age and ran the best mile in fifth grade. She lost about 12 pounds from January to June of 09, which she has... -
ARCHIVED New Celiac 4 Yr Old - How Gluten Free Is Free?
seezee replied to hbl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My parents created a gluten-free cupboard and bought special pans and utensils since they have two celiac grandchildren. My mother tries to always use paper towels to clean up crumbs from regular bread. She has adapted most of everyone's favorite recipes to gluten-free versions like stuffing and apple crisp. She always keeps a supply of gluten-free pasta... -
ARCHIVED Children's Tylenol
seezee replied to klococo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I checked with my sister and actually it was generic children's ibuprofen that had gluten. It was the drugstore brand. -
ARCHIVED Children's Tylenol
seezee replied to klococo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think the Children's liquid tylenol is. My nephew ate some one day and my sister freaked out because it had gluten. It took a couple of days for him to calm down. There is a website called glutenfreedrugs.com that list most everything that is gluten-free. -

ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Daughter Might Have Celiac Disease
seezee replied to greeneyes82781's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You could start by reading this about what the blood work means. https://www.celiac.com/articles/57/1/Interpretation-of-Celiac-Disease-Blood-Test-Results/Page1.html I also found it super stressful once we had a positive blood test and my daughter started to feel really crappy that it took such a long time to see a specialist. It helped us get in sooner... -

ARCHIVED Gerber Smart Sips Gluten Free?
seezee replied to Glutenfree4LJS's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know. I poked around their website and found this: Open Original Shared Link If you look under allergens or FAQs you can usually find it. I am not sure what you asked but sometimes it's better to ask about wheat, rye, barley or oats rather than gluten. I guess you can ask to speak to a supervisor if they don't know. My baby is allergic to... -

ARCHIVED Feel Like I'M Nuts But Plan To Ask Doc About Celiac
seezee replied to lindsayanne0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are tests for both celiac and lactose intolerance. I believe that their lactose one is a type of breath test (one doctor recommended this but we didn't do it since many of our symptoms went away with eliminating gluten) and celiac can be detected with a simple blood test. If it is celiac, it's better to run a blood test before he stops eating gluten... -
ARCHIVED Is The Biopsy Completely Necessary After A Positive Blood Test?
seezee replied to Mother of a Celiac's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it's not so bad getting all the tests done. The hard thing is feeding your kid something that is most likely making her super sick for months while you wait for your appointment. Hope everything goes alright. -
ARCHIVED Is The Biopsy Completely Necessary After A Positive Blood Test?
seezee replied to Mother of a Celiac's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my daughter's blood test was positive, my sister who decided against the biopsy urged me to just go gluten-free and skip the scope. (my nephew has it too and they confirmed it with the blood test and diet. her numbers were really high) The GI doctor (first one we saw that I ended up really disliking) really, really, really urged me to get the biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice On Annual Biopsies For Toddler
seezee replied to Glutenfree4LJS's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Not sure where you live but try to work with a pediatric GI who specializes in celiac disease. We live in Boston so there are tons (maybe more like ten) of different choices so we can be super picky. There are lots to choose from. I think the doctor who did our biopsy said that they rarely/never do a repeat one in children and only under unusual/extreme circumstances...
