ARCHIVED Update, Blood Tests & Gi Visit
dbuhl79 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Finally, the honor of getting to see the GI specialist. And believe it or not, they did not roll their eyes at my suggestion of Celiac Disease. In fact they're running blood tests and think its "very possible". Thank goodness! They took all of my complaints and ailments very seriously and wanted all the information and then some that I could provide... -
Is this only for bread machines or can we go the old fashion route?
-
Can you handle coffee? Once I start, it kicks start my repeated runs to the bathroom too. Maybe I'm crazy, but is it just the caffiene or is there hidden gluten in here too?!
-
When you were first diagnosed with Celiac Disease, how did you explain it to family and friends? Any suggestive teaching tools? (i.e, literature etc.)
-
Perhaps you've already tried this, but maybe printing out or bringing in leaflets describing Celiac disease, and the damage it can do after repeatedly ingesting Gluten would help. Another suggestion I would try is explaining it to them by comparing it to a food allergy. For example I have a cousin who's husband is severely allergic to peanuts. So much...

ARCHIVED Family Gatherings At Restaurants
dbuhl79 replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I Just had to reply to this. I'm not officialy part of the gluten-free club, but I couldn't resist responding to this one! Its just unfortunate that Celiac Disease isn't something commonly understood or known about. It's unfortunate that this aunt reacted in such an inappropriate and unkind manner towards you and your family. And she left herself looking... -

Thanks guys! I haven't given up hope yet, just unsure of the menu items listed on their website. They have 3 dining locations at this resort/inn. And majorty of its fish. And ya think that'd be simple, but I hate fish!! Ha ha! Well I will wait to get my official word on going gluten-free thsi week. Then I'll talk to the wives about getting in touch w...

I'm not officially being forced to go gluten-free yet, but I may by the time our office has our annual Christmas staff dinner gathering. In fact one of the wives just called to inform us of when and where this year. I'm not firmilar with the restruant and will be soon. But if I need to go gluten-free its not as likely they will have anything. At timese...

ARCHIVED Gf, Weightloss, Lack Of Appetite
dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Taneil/Deb, Thanks to both of you. Its comforting, and I quite honestly, know I'd like to lose this weight. My ideal being under 130, and losing 15lbs will be fine. My concern is losing it now, being on gluten, is a sign of malabsorption(sp) and lacking the necessary nutrients. I would be delghted to go gluten-free and lose the necessary weight. Luckily... -

Ok, ok, so you're probably all sick of seeing my new posts, but so many questions!! I know that many of you have suffered from fatigue or other various things not necessarily listed on the items of symptoms for Celiac Disease. However, aside from Fatigue, I occassionaly notice that I run out of breath pretty quickly..running up two flights of stairs... -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Without Official Diagnosis
dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well I must confess this is my first GI visit so it is only a consult. I will be lucky if they do a blood test. I certainly hope this doctor knows about the effects of gluten-free on the blood test results because she tough to get into and is a specialist in Celiacc Disease (imagine my luck!). So, I am hoping this consult will lead to the suggestion... -
Thanks guys! Richard, thanks for the confirmation. I don't know what I'd do if they said "Ooh you gotta keep eating gluten for another month or two just to be sure." I think I'd go nuts. Even if its not my issue, in my head, those few days were great, so... I'd love to go gluten-free. In addition, my boyfriend keeps trying to take me gluten-free....

Richard, I was gluten-free for approximately 5-6days. (But boy was that a blissful 5-6days!!) Nothing I think to damage my chances of a good biopsy. And to be honest, I know I wasn't 100% gluten-free in those 5 days because of not realizing just how much gluten is in everything! Thanks though... I certainly hope I get "clean" results. Dana

But tod ay back and forth to the bathroom 3 times this morning so far! Miserable!! Sorry just needed to vent as I know you can ALL relate. Thank goodness my appt is next Wed with the GI doc. Can't wait...

ARCHIVED Going Gf Without Official Diagnosis
dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks, because that abdominal pain has been a mystery to me. I kept pondering if it was sign of something more serious. Well I do have good news folks. I finally called the GI Celiac Disease specialist to see if my appt. had been made YET by my PCP, and it hadn't. However, the secretary apologized profusely and told me of a cancellation next Wednesday... -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Without Official Diagnosis
dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the input. If they ever do make my appt with the GI specialist, I may humor the doctors and go to that. Another question, and this may sound odd. But for those of you who suffer with digestive upset due to Celiac Disease, do you ever find a bowel movement does not relieve the suffering? I personally start out with abomdinal discomfort... -

Gillian, I see you've mentioned POTS, do you know if it also has an onset of severe migraines related to it? Always looking for more info for my sister-in-law who suffers from POTS and severe migraines now also. Thanks! -

Mom03, Has anyone mentioned POTS to you. I noticed it in a previous post here. My sister in law has this condition. I'd see about getting a referal to Mayo's. Good luck, I hope you find an answer soon! Dana -

ARCHIVED Going Gf Without Official Diagnosis
dbuhl79 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, as I am sure you can all relate to, I'm worn out from doctor appointments. I can't even schedule my own appointment with the hospital's GI Celiac Specialist, my PCP has to call and schedule it. Which they seem to be stalling in their efforts to do so. As I continue my gluten consuming, I am pondering scratching the doctor visits and just going... -
ARCHIVED Gf, Weightloss, Lack Of Appetite
dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Burdee, Thanks. Oh trust me I will revel in any future weight loss. My real issue is my doctor and boyfriend being overly concerned about it. I've reminded them I won't waste away! Glad to know I'm not alone. Thanks. -
Hi, new to this section. I am slowing determining that I may be gluten intolerant. I do know I've felt like a normal person going gluten-free for a week. Back on gluten in hopes I can get a biopsy done soon! I've lost weight since the onset of my stomach upset (diarrhea) and going gluten-free. But during my episodes such as today with abomdinal pain...
