  1. Iheartboston, I think reactions will vary per individual. Some people here have such severe reactions to even cross contamination (i.e., someone toasting white bread in a toaster, than you using the taoster for gluten-free bread can cause crumbs to cross contaminate). I've read stories of others reacting and being very sick from that. So that little bite...
  2. Stef, What brand of rice cakes do you use for this? Sounds good! I might actually have to break out the toaster again!
  3. It seems recently I've read a lot of people having "new symptoms" popping up even after being long-term dedicated gluten-free individuals. Now not to s ay that anyone would miss this, but it is the flu season. It seems that many of you are very in tune with your bodies and reactions to gluten. I thought I'd post this just as a friendly reminder, if cold...
  4. I too have experienced similar things to what you've described. When the onset of all my symptoms hit, I was exhausted. I initially thought just from my constant bathroom runs, possibly being dehydrated. Even when I had a few good days, I would be tired. I lost my joy for shopping too. I'd be in Sam's Club or wandering around and after too long, I was...
  5. Endoscopy: A diagnostic procedure to view the inside of an organ; in gastric endoscopy a tube with a light source and miniature video camera at its tip is inserted down the throat into the stomach to view the stomach wall. Colonoscopy: A procedure that allows inspection and tissue sampling of the rectum and large intestine by inserting a flexible tube...
  6. Ah, yes, the wonderful time of Christmas gatherings, that should bring us all closer together and celebrate a warm fuzzy Christmas. HA! Yes, people like to talk and its unfortunate. I think the previous suggestions posted here are EXCELLENT ideas, in fact, I had some similar ones so I won't repost those. I would definately eat before you go,...
  7. Maryanne, I can't speak for the flipflopping test results, but wanted to offer a word some moral support. I certainly wish you the best of luck in discovering what ever may be the specific cause for your son's slow growth and other issues. It does seem that Celiac Disease would fit into this. I find it slightly odd and would question the blood tests having...
  8. My father and uncle have had these removed. They have no bowel issues, but this was just a routine colonoscopy as one reaches a certain age. The only indication I've understood, is that these polyps, require one to have a yearly colonoscopy to check for additional ones and monitor the situation. To keep on the top of possibly developing more complicated...
  9. Julie I'd love to have the recipe, they sound great. Does anyone else know of a gluten-free Shortbread cookie recipe? Thanks!
  10. Can anyone explain to me, in brief laymen terms what the difference is from the above? I understand that some can have a "wheat allergy" others are just intolerant to gluten while not yet having developed Celiac Disease, is that accurate? My other question is, if one has a wheat allergy or is intolerant to wheat, whats the difference in avoiding wheat...
  11. I know that Wendy's chili is gluten free, and has been a standard for me when I need a quick fix at a fast food resturant. Its delicious! I come to crave it now! Really check out there gluten-free menu items, its great that they have them!
  12. I just need to vent! I know I've "glutened" (as some may call it) myself this past week. I've only suffered mild abdominal discomfort, but the last 3 days I've noticed feeling woozy in the afternoons and back to NO appetite. Which concerns my significant other who insists I eat. Don't get me wrong, I'm forcing myself to take in food. Now normally...
  13. Julie, Glad we all can help some! I just had a thought, you said that you hit a low spot around 9-11.. Perhaps around that time, you can have a small snack on the side, nuts or something that will boost your energy. Just a thought!!! Let us know how it goes!
  14. Well, the odd thing since all my problems started, I hardly crave sweets. In fact my appetite, is ridiculously small. But, looking at what a lot of you say you're drawn to or eat more frequently, simple sugars, candy, chocolate. I'm wondering if all of you are eating enough of a balance of carbs and proteins? I ask this really from the prospective...
  15. Thanks guys, I'll have to print this entire thread out. Those are great!!
  16. Thanks to everyone who's offered their "responses". This will come in very handy when I see my family and friends in two weeks and introduce them to my new lifestyle. You're right, Stef, its none of their business. Now to come up with the polite way to inform them of that! Thanks again, and you guys have some great attitudes, is very inspiring...
  17. (Disregard this if you did not mean GARLIC vs GARIC? ) Better safe than sorry! My guess is that its just garlic and that's it. However, I think the only way to really know is to contact the company that makes the garlic powder. You didn't mention the brand name. But they should be able to let you know what it contains. Since it doesn't seem to list...
  18. An update on Whole Food gluten-free Products: I've just bought their blueberry muffins today, and I have to say they are mighty tasty! One of the best gluten-free bread products I've had. They are very moist compared to the more dry, and heavy bread products that are gluten-free, but they are almost too moist. I definitely need a fork to eat this!...
  19. I wouldn't rule out being gluten or wheat intolerant. But initially reading your post, my first reaction is to think you possibly have IBS (irritable bowel). Now I know a lot ofpeople here have been tossed around by their doctors and given that generic label for their digestive issues. Even I have. Its true that IBS may really just be a label for issues...
  20. Does anyone else find, for those of us that are budget conscious that, a lot of the gluten-free items, such as gluten-free flour mixes etc, tend to be a bit more costly than your mainstream products? I've always shopped at Whole FOods or other health food stores and found because they're considered more "speciality products" (being organic or what not...
  21. Julie, What a great perspective to take. Thanks for posting that. I think I'll utilize that in my strategy to dealing with relatives and friends regarding my new gluten-free lifestyle. I know I have a few ignorant friends who just won't understand, and well so be it. Thanks!
  22. I was hoping some of you might have some creative and quick dinner recipes for gluten-free items. I've been luckly enough that my better half is willing to go gluten-free in the house with me. SO he'll eat whatever I cook. (But I think he's wearing down on rice and chicken!!) As many of you know, you can be quite tired and not motivated too cook...
  23. I realize not all of you live near a Whole Foods with distributing their new baked goods. However, if you do, they have a great gluten-free Pizza Crust, tastes wonderful! Better than anything I've made from scratch on my own. I'd give that one a whirl!
  24. Debbie, I really hope you find an answer soon. I am sure this is very diffcult to function with. Regarding the POTS. One thing to keep in mind, during these spells or other times, do you ever feel you suffer or feel you have a rapid heartbeat? My understanding of this condition is just as it implies by its name, the speeding up of heartbeat. Good luck...
  25. Susan, I just wanted to offer a few words of support! At least you have this forum backing you! I know its tough, with a family of "food lovers". Personally I come from a family of bread/carb loving fanatics. We all grew up with a mother who had a loaf of fresh homemade bread in the oven almost every morning! Now that I've expressed to many family members...
