ARCHIVED Ladies, Celiac & Menstrual Cycles?
dbuhl79 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've seen other people mention that there menstrual cycle changed when they were struck with Celiac Disease or as part of their symptoms. Along wth the onset of these odd digestive symptoms, mine has also changed. I'm curious, what have doctors told you about this connection? Is it simply that your body is so thrown off by this disease that it effects... -

ARCHIVED What Were Your First Symptoms
dbuhl79 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine started kind of out of nowhere. Thought I had eaten some bad meat, or had a touch of the stomach flu. Wound up in the bathroom a lot. And 3 months later, I'm still in the bathroom a lot. Lost weight, which is nearly impossible for me to do w/o exercising excessively. Becoming afraid to eat anything, since it all tends to hurt, or result in an... -
LynnR, Unfortunately, its seems that they're willing to merely focus on themselves and not beyond. I know that may seem harsh, but, they don't understand nor make an effort to, becaues its not happening to them. Sorry you have to struggle with a group that's so understanding. If it comforts you any, I'm heading to the "in-laws" for Thanksgiving dinner...

dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks. Unfortunately, I've had no relief yet, but only been on it since last Friday. I'm not sure when relief sets in. Still alot of abdominal pain and diarrhea. I think I spent more time in the bathroom then in my own office all day yesterday. Luckily things have improved this afternoon. Now I just hurt! I am hoping it brings some relief. Another... -
celiac3270/Lynn, I think Lynn is right on track. I realize not everyone believes in holistic or homeopathic remedies for treating illnesses, but they can extremely effective. I used to work in a place very similar to Whole Foods in their supplement department and woul strongly recommend that people look into more natural or holistic methods for treating...

ARCHIVED Typical Daily Menu
dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Susan, Thanks, just trying to get creative ideas. I tried gluten-free for a week, and because my digestive system was so out of wack (as is today) I wound up eating a lot of gluten-free soups, rice cakes, and occassionaly spaghett (soy pasta). Luckily, my better half is willing to gluten-free the entire house! Too bad we just bought groceries, prior... -
ARCHIVED I Saw A Dietician
dbuhl79 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've lucked out and gotten to see a GI doc that specializes in Celiac Disease in a University Hospital Digestive Health Center. Considering this, do you guys think if I get referred to see a dietician or nutritionist it would be worthwhile? Since they have a department that specializes in this, I would hope they're educated and have some purpose if they... -
ARCHIVED Typical Daily Menu
dbuhl79 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am thinking this will be a interesting topic to start. I have to vent, its been a rough few days. In fear of need for a biopsy I've delayed going gluten free. However, after days of pain and nothing staying in my system I'm ready to go gluten free. Now that I am stopping to consider whats currently in my cupboards and what to buy, I am feeling that... -

Richard, Thanks. I appreciate the much needed information! -
Does anyone know of the percentage of chance you will pass this on to your children when your spouse is a non-celiac? Secondly at what point do you get your children tested? Do you sit and wait for symptoms to appear?

ARCHIVED What Were Your First Symptoms
dbuhl79 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In regards to the children that licked paper, ate dirt or sand, has anyone had an explaination from their doctor ? My only thought on this is that I know animals will eat things out of the ordinary when their bodies are not getting the proper nutrients. Could something in children be signaling this too? Just a thought to ponder.. -

Thanks for that mention! I am definitely going out to pick up a cooking light today! That's just great information, since my better half is going gluten-free with me at home! -
Glix, Sorry you had such a poor experience! Fast food is definitely not a place to expect high quality service, but when that's all your stuck with, I guess fries only are your safest bet! You should rent "Supersize Me" its a very interesting documentary on McDonalds, might amuse you.

ARCHIVED Levsin (hyoscyamine)
dbuhl79 replied to dbuhl79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bmorrow: Thanks. So far I'm not finding it to help with the diarrhea either, but if it takes the abdominal pain away I'd be content with that. Thanks! Dana -

ARCHIVED Levsin (hyoscyamine)
dbuhl79 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My doctor prescribed Levsin (otherwise known as Hyoscyamine) for abdominal pain/cramping & diarrhea. I'm not one to enjoy being on medications & the potential side effects don't sound to wonderful. Has anyone else taken this and received much relief? Just took my first dose this afternoon. Does anyone know of any bad reactoins to it? ... -
Stef, Too much caffeine (which is in sodas unless otherwise noted such a Pepsi) can cause headaches. Hav eyou tried elminating all caffeine from your diet? That might be the source! Worth a shot! Dana

Could you have an egg allergy? I know coffee alone will send me in a spell.

Samy, Would you be so kind to post what your doctors response is? I myself have recently been running a few low grade temps. Thanks!

Jules, Vent. Vemt. Vent all you need! These forums are a great place and I am sure you will receive many positive upbeat commentaries. Personally, I have not had health issues to your extent. Although until moving from Michigan to VA I was very healthy, never been hospitalized. Now that I've moved here, I've been through many ordeals, from viral bugs...

Actually, I know alot of people that will drink coffee to "kick start" there bowels. In fact a joke is that its a natural laxative. So there has been times prior to recently that it would give me the urge to go. However, I don't really know what brand it is I drink here at the office. In fact its something cheap and generic because that's all they...
