  1. Ok, so apparently I am really green at this because what is a food sensitivity panel, and is that the same thing the other poster was referring to from Enterolab? Any idea how much this would be?
  2. No problem on the typing mistake......we all make them. I am so intrigued to hear someone with a similar story about suspected gluten intolerant symptoms subsiding during pregnancy. I have read somewhere that autoimmune disorders such as arthritis and MS can do this during pregnancy, but I wonder if anyone has ever written about this and celiac/gluten intolerance...
  3. Dear Megan, You wrote: "Then about a month after my gluten-free diagnosis - I got pregnant with my son. " and "Anyway, so tonight, I am starting on my gluten-free diet, and will have DS on it as well - and see what happens. If it doesnt make a difference, its back to square one with them both. If it works..then YAY!]" If you were diagnosed...
  4. I forgot to post this on my previous reply; regarding the weight of my dd who is now on gluten-free breastmilk for the past 2 mos: Birth: 7lb-8oz (50th%tile) 1 Day: 7-4 (between 25th & 50th%tile) 4 Day weight check: 6-15 (25%tile) 2 week weight check: 7-2 (between 10-25%tile) 1 month appt: 7-11 (10th%tile) started gluten-free diet the...
  5. I agree with you, the teff ones are also really good. Not sure where you are located, but I found the teff ones in Meijer stores. The brown rice were in my local health food store.
  6. OK, I am still trying to figure out my 4yo celiac daughter. When she first got diagnosed and started gluten-free diet, we saw a drastic improvement in her. She remained dairy free also for 1 month, then slowly added it back in and she seemed fine. She started growing and was generally a much more cheerful, happier kid. Her pot belly tummy seemed to really...
  7. has anyone else tried the brown rice tortillas made by "food for life"? I find them much tastier than any corn tortilla I've tried, a little more of a chewy texture, but really good.
  8. Sorry-I just realized "whole foods" is the name of a store-dumb question on my part.
  9. Can you find the coconut milk, oi, and/or butter and regular grocery stores or where do you buy them? Have you (if you're not dairy free) tried the rice cheese? If so, how do you like the taste? Same question for the coconut milk and butter.
  10. Rebecca, Thank you for sharing your story, it is nice to know someone else is going through it. I would never tell anyone what to do, and there may be other circumstances that make our situations different, but I will tell you what happened to us and you can decide. Your story sounds very similar to mine: My second child a DD, was "colicky" from...
  11. I have a question about gluten-free shampoo. I have read a few postings regarding sulfates, as if they are not safe, but I'm not sure of the connection to gluten. Can anyone explain this? Also, I currently us Biolage brand shampoo and conditioner, love it, but DD is celiac and thinking of switching to a gluten-free equivalent, any suggestions?
  12. I can relate to your situation, but as the parent of a paranoid gluten-free 4yo celiac (not being gluten-free myself). She is paranoid about gluten and so am I. When she was first diagnosed we had a separate gluten-free cupboard for her.....special area of the counter for her gluten-free food etc. NOW, after almost 2 years, we've realized that it is actually...
  13. Recently I tackled gluten-free-not THAT big of a deal with all the great products out there. Now I am trying to do dairy free also, and am having a terrible time. I keep accidentally consuming it-my poor little 3 month old DD is dairy sensitive and I'm nursing her and she lets me know-then I feel so bad!! So, if anyone has suggestions for good substitutes...
  14. How wonderful that your grandson will have you supporting him on his gluten-free diet! We have no support..........to my knowledge at starting the diet there will be an "allergy" or intolerance to dairy, but this could be short term. I have seen lots of people list they are dairy, egg, soy etc. free along with gluten but I don't know how they found out...
  15. I'm confused by the antibody levels being mentioned, maybe it's a different test or something........my daughter's ttg was over 1000 when she was diagnosed (OUR lab report said that under 20 is normal) so I don't get why your daughter's was so low and they pretty much knew she had it..... just for your comfort though, we have been at this almost two years...
  16. OK this is what I think your results mean-anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong..... HLA-DQ2 -- POS HLA-DQ8 -- Negative this means that she could have it or could develop it at some point....ie if she were negative for both DQ2 & 8 then it would mean that she almost definately could never get celiac disease Transglutinase Antibody...
  17. My 4yo daughter's main symptom was her "temperament" as the first pediatrician put it. We had been dealing with it from night 1 in the hospital. She wasn't diagnosed until she was 2 1/2! Poor thing-we had no idea. Anyway, my now 2 yo son has been screened and we found out he has IgA deficiency. My understanding is that this proves the antibody blood...
  18. I think a lot of people here in this forum feel your pain. Most of our family thinks we are either completely nuts or least "going overboard" in some form. Hang in there, try not to worry about what other people think. Know that you are not alone........it will get better as time goes by. Trust your body, it knows what it needs and what it can handle...
  19. Another thing to find out/keep in mind about the blood test: my son was tested once with negative results; then screened again a year later and was then inconclusive because his "total IgA" was low, so the antibodies won't necessarily be elevated. Apparently they never ran the "total" count the first time. His sister is positive so we're having the genetic...
  20. All I can say is "be strong little root"!! You can be the beginning of a new family with a full understanding of this wonderful lifestyle, it's ups and downs, and someday your kids can say my mom (or dad) is fully supportive! I think MANY if not all of us can empathize your description of this situation. It makes me dread holidays.
  21. Hello, while I was not diagnosed while breastfeeding, I share your feelings in many ways. I, myself have not been diagnosed celiac, but my 4 y.o. daughter is. I have a 2 month old that I am nursing now. She was terribly fussy shortly after us bringing her home (the SAME way my 4 y.o was). My 4 y.o. was labeled as "colicky" as a baby, but after she was...
  22. now that you've both mentioned it, i do think the levels were LOWER, just not into the normal range. thank you for confirming the dairy would not trigger the antibody response if she were sensitive. we are doing a dairy free trial right now-it's only been 2 days so we'll see.
  23. thank you so much for your insight; it is nice just to know someone else is struggling with the elevated antibodies. no, we have not gotten another endoscopy (i was hoping to never have to put her through that again). it was awful; of course her being such a young age made me paranoid about it.
  24. Hello, this is my first post so i will explain my situation: My 4 y.o daughter has celiac disease (diagnosed via elevated ttg antibody and endoscopy). We have had her on a strict gluten-free diet since nov 07 (over a year and a half); we have repeated antibody testing twice and both times the antibody levels are still high. The first time was only after...
