ARCHIVED Finally! Delicious gluten-free Bread!
elle's mom replied to Wolicki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I almost ordered Udi's a few weeks ago because someone mentioned in another thread how soft and great it was. I was really excited to try it. So, I called their place in Denver and asked a few questions........I think I may have gotten an inexperienced employee, but she couldn't tell me whether or not the bread was dairy free. Also, when they answered... -
ARCHIVED Severely Swollen Eyelids In 12 Month Old
elle's mom replied to mommyoftwo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey, I haven't been on here in awhile but I just wondered what you found out with our daughter? -
I have a question about getting the dressing on the side; I have read this before and wondered. So if the dressing is gluten-free, then why would you need it on the side; is it just so they will make you a fresh salad in a clean bowl? I haven't mastered the restaurant thing yet either, always feel weird making special requests, and just wish I could order...

ARCHIVED For Parents Whose Babies Were Dairy Sensitive
elle's mom replied to elle's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, she was never tested.......I actually didn't even really know there was such a test. Is it a blood test? If so, I'll probably just wait it out for now and see. We live an hour from the lab, and well babies don't really like needles, so I try to minimize them when possible (although all my kids do get their vaccinations). Anyway, thanks for the info... -
ARCHIVED For Parents Whose Babies Were Dairy Sensitive
elle's mom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Can anyone tell me how long before their dairy sensitive infant could tolerate it, even in small amounts? My dd seems to have been pretty sensitive, she even reacted to my putting butter on one slice of gluten-free toast a few months ago. Well, now she is four and a half months (I need to change my signature), and I'm thinking about trying a little bit... -
ARCHIVED Why Doesn't Cow's Milk Contain Gluten If The Cow Eats It?
elle's mom replied to kimbersdawnly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also tried to research this awhile back & couldn't find anything then. I was wondering if maybe the gluten is somehow removed during the pasteurization process? My dd has been consuming dairy and her anti-gliadin antibodies are normal, so it cannot contain gluten, I just don't understand how either, unless it's the pasteurization. -
ARCHIVED Severely Swollen Eyelids In 12 Month Old
elle's mom replied to mommyoftwo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dear Mommyoftwo, My 4yo diagnosed celiac dd HAS awoke with swollen eyelids for stretches (days not weeks), but not as a result of her consuming gluten (that we know of). She simply has "hayfever" and other animal allergies (started when she took a nap on a couch that a cat frequently sleeps on). I am an optometrist and I have NEVER heard of a 5 week... -
ARCHIVED Tips To Win Over A Toddler To gluten-free Diet
elle's mom replied to scadshutterbug's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have found that every child is different. MY 5yo (well mine's 6) would be/is more difficult than my 2yo. I find that a 2yo doesn't question me as much as an older child. Donuts at church were an issue for us, but we just said they aren't too healthy. Eating "HEALTHY" has been the focus for us, explaining that to them, they are actually getting it... -
ARCHIVED "organic Barley Grass"
elle's mom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Last week I bought these vitamins (Calcium/Mag/Vit D combo) at my local health food store and they said "gluten-free" right on the box. One of the ingredients was this "organic barley grass".....obviously sounds like gluten to me so I ask the owner. He says the 'grass' is different than the barley grain so it's not gluten. I say OK and take the vits. ... -
ARCHIVED On Turning A Corner At 21 Months
elle's mom replied to Lisa16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Also, I am not that emotional, and this gave me a lump in my throat.......thanks for the optimism. -
Several years ago, before I ever heard of celiac or gluten, I had a physical for life insurance and the only thing that was flagged was my cholesterol. My overall number was high (242), but the ratio of good to bad (HDL:LDL) was within normal range, mainly because my HDL was really high (80s?). I called my doctor about it at the time and was told to simply...

I have found that the biggest KEY to surviving the gluten-free diet is PLANNING AHEAD. I always have to know where my next meal is coming from and what it will be. Traveling is hard. Packing lunches &/or dinners have been very important for me. I also get anxiety like you described and I find it much better when I do it this way. I already have tomorrow...

ARCHIVED For Those Who Had Babies Diagnosed With Celiac's....help!
elle's mom replied to marybeth1583's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed with celiac when she was about two and a half. Little did we know before that she had been showing symptoms since the day she was born. She was "colicky", and it never went away. She was very irritable (they told me this was just her "temperament")-tantrums, difficult feeding etc. She would refuse a bottle (although she WOULD... -
ARCHIVED New To Forum And Full Of Questions
elle's mom replied to mhope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To give you a short answer, the fatigue takes awhile to go away! I have only been gluten-free for less than 3 months and mine is somewhat better, but not totally. Are you female, because the whole nausea in the morning thing sounds a bit like early pregnancy Welcome to the forum and good luck with your PhD!! -
Does anyone know how to find out what exact vitamin dosages are in a prenatal vitamin? I cannot call the pharmacy right now (they are closed) and I really want to know. I was thinking I could probably find it on the net, but am having a hard time........ It's made by Amneal Pharmaceuticals, it's Prenatal Plus Oral Tab. Thanks if you can help.

ARCHIVED Symptom Question - 3 Yr Old
elle's mom replied to wchamp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With those symptoms and a family history, either get him tested now with a full celiac panel, make sure you specify what you want; OR just try the gluten-free diet for a good few weeks to a month to see if it helps. The only problem is that is you do the gluten-free diet and it does help, then you later want a "real" diagnosis, he'll have to go back to eating... -
ARCHIVED Who Else Has Esophageal Spasms And Difficulty Swallowing?
elle's mom replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't have this, but what you guys are describing sounds like what my twin cousins have, they have been diagnosed with "eosinophilic esophagitis".........they were because of this, and that celiac is in the family (my daughter), given the blood test for celiac, and it was supposedly negative. Not that they don't have it of course, because I believe they... -
ARCHIVED Is There Anything I Can Do To Not Trigger Celiac In Newborn?
elle's mom replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do agree with what you two are saying about not forcing the diet on a teen-ager, I mean you probably couldn't anyway. I was more referring to when they are babies &/or elementary age children. I think it is our jobs as parents to make decisions for them until they are old enough to make informed decisions themselves. It just makes me nervous to wait... -
ARCHIVED Is There Anything I Can Do To Not Trigger Celiac In Newborn?
elle's mom replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is an interesting article. There are lots of percentages about the likeliness of a child developing celiac depending on different variables regarding breastfeeding & other feeding patterns, and how early or late gluten was introduced. My point is that there is 100% chance that your child will NEVER develop celiac disease if you NEVER introduce... -
ARCHIVED Is There Anything I Can Do To Not Trigger Celiac In Newborn?
elle's mom replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree with Amy! If it is in the family and there's even a CHANCE the child could develop celiac down the road, I feel it my duty as a parent to prevent that as much as I possibly can. The diet is scary, and hard at first, but if you're already on it or someone in your house, I would not give the child gluten. I feel it is way easier on a child to be... -
ARCHIVED Think I've Been Glutened, Please Check My Menu :)
elle's mom replied to tygwyn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was also thinking maybe the dairy could be an issue. I noticed you have dairy at every sitting.....when my daughter was diagnosed, they said no dairy for at least the first 30 days as during the healing process you are technically lactose intolerant. You may be able to tolerate it better later on, thankfully my daughter can. -
ARCHIVED Finally Got An Article Written About Awareness W/my Dd!
elle's mom replied to kbdy's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks for the link. My daughter is starting pre-school in a few weeks and I am going to forward this on to her teacher so she can read it, I think it will be very valuable.........much appreciated! -
Many years ago, in high school, I used to work at McD's; at the one I worked, and any others that I've observed, the fries are prepared off to the side at a separate "fry" area, whereas the nuggets, chicken sandwiches, etc. are made in the "grill" area located behind the counter, not even near each other. The only thing though, I just thought of this, is...

Open Original Shared Link ............hopefully, it's not one of those listed as gluten free but it really isn't. I hate those.

Actually, we usually (well only done it twice, but anyway) have done the grilled chicken/baked potato at Wendy's. At least with chicken IMO you don't miss the bun as much as with a burger patty. Their grilled chicken I think is really quite good. My daughter will actually eat it too so whenever we see Wendy's at least we know we have an option. Plus,...
