ARCHIVED Friend Says She's In Remission?
elle's mom replied to KSLMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Agreed. This is so sad because either 1. she actually believes this, then she is terribly misinformed from someone who doesn't know what they are talking about or 2. she just isn't following the diet and making excuses. The bigger problem than just your friend and her health is that either way, she's passing on bad information. Those uninformed/unaware... -
ARCHIVED Walmart Labeled Item "Gluten Free" But States May Contain Wheat!
elle's mom replied to Darissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
NO! Obviously no one would rather this. PLEASE understand that it is not the disclosure statement that any of us have a problem with; IT'S THE MISLEADING LABEL ON THE FRONT....the words "gluten free" should never be accompanied by "may contain wheat". They need to take the gluten free off the front, leave the disclaimer on the back and I think everyone would... -
ARCHIVED Glutenfree Bakery
elle's mom replied to Spartans1960's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I figured you were from Michigan with the 'spartans' name.....we are also from Michigan; unfortunately not going to be able to get down there this year. I must not have been aware of the new location.......... Last year when I asked about a gluten free cone the younger girl who was working there (just scooping and serving) said she didn't think there... -
ARCHIVED Help! Received Copy Of Genetic Test Results
elle's mom replied to elle's mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nora, you are a wealth of knowledge, God Bless You for all your help. I do not consider myself an ignorant person, but all this genetic stuff is very complicated! Correct me if I'm wrong , but the bottom line from what you're saying is this: 1. My DD#4 is obviously at risk, having the same genes as our diagnosed celiac. 2. My other two children are... -
ARCHIVED Glutenfree Bakery
elle's mom replied to Spartans1960's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We've also experienced their wonderful gluten free food! Double thumbs up:) The only thing I have to say is watch out for their ice cream cones; the cones are not gluten free (at least when we were there a year ago). -

ARCHIVED Walmart Labeled Item "Gluten Free" But States May Contain Wheat!
elle's mom replied to Darissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was actually referring to the green chilles being labeled "naturally gluten free" not the hot sauce, sorry to confuse with the original posters product. -
ARCHIVED Walmart Labeled Item "Gluten Free" But States May Contain Wheat!
elle's mom replied to Darissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think the part that mad us so mad was not that they printed the "may contain traces of wheat" statement, that is fine, actually appreciated when companies do this. The problems is more their advertising tactic which in much larger letters places on the front of the label " A NATURALLY GLUTEN FREE FOOD". This should not be allowed. WalMart is the only... -
ARCHIVED Walmart Labeled Item "Gluten Free" But States May Contain Wheat!
elle's mom replied to Darissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We had the same problem with their "naturally gluten-free" 4oz cans of green chilles. It also says it may contain traces of wheat on the back. My husband bought them instead of our usual, Old El Paso, because they were cheaper, as he noticed the front label. Then I noticed what it said on the back when he brought them home, I threw them right in the garbage... -

ARCHIVED Question On Ig A Deficiency
elle's mom replied to haleym's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From my understanding, the allergy panels mainly test IgE reactions, so the IgA deficiency should not make a significant difference on the allegy testing or the response time. The immunoglobulins A and E work on different things, that's why the "E" isn't even measured for the celiac panel, only "A" and "G", whereas the "E" is the main one for allergies.... -

ARCHIVED Genetic Test Results
elle's mom posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OK, the genetic counselor called me last week about the results of our kids genetic tests. Basically, all she told me was that my celiac diagnosed dd and my youngest dd both are positive for DQ2 & DQ8. My other two kids were negative for both DQ2&8. I have not received the copy in the mail yet, but she said that all the info on what genes the other... -
ARCHIVED Did The Lab Run The Right Test?
elle's mom replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have seen a similar charge on our EOB's which is simply for the process of the lab (or whoever) taking the blood, it would not include any of the cost for the actual test that was run. I think, someone can correct me if I'm wrong. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Mom With Baby - When To Introduce Gluten
elle's mom replied to mamonaco30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
EXACTLY! There are lists and lists of possible problems that gluten can cause. It seems everyone reacts to it differently. They are not always sudden, noticable, or even obvious abdominal problems. Babies cannot tell us what they feel, we can't look inside their little brains to see if it's developing properly and/or if gluten is somehow affecting development... -
My 2 3/4 year old son, who is not diagnosed celiac, has been gluten free for 6-7 months since we made our home gluten free. Even when we go out I keep all the kids gluten free. Well, over the holidays my husband decided that we should not restrict the non-celiac kids and my son ate a whole bunch of gluten while at relatives. He suddenly started stuttering...

ARCHIVED Celiac Mom With Baby - When To Introduce Gluten
elle's mom replied to mamonaco30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I do agree with the pp who said it is a personal decison and I am not pushing my view onto anyone but the thing I keep coming back to is the thought: is avoiding gluten really going to do any harm? I haven't seen any research saying that a gluten free diet has ever harmed anyone. Just my two cents. -
ARCHIVED Udi's Bread
elle's mom replied to DMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To me Udi's bread taste's just like "normal" bread, even Grama's soft homeade fresh bread (well almost on that anyway). Three of my kids eat it Udi's for lunch almost daily for their sandwiches(only one really needs to be gluten-free, but we are super careful about cc so we're 99% gluten-free in our house). -you could easily pack it with no warming ONLY... -
I big thumbs up for this idea.....we LOVE Sweet Baby Rays at our house, and we use Bristol/Bertille Buns (they recently had a name change) for the perfect BBQ beef sandwich.....MMMMM; I think I'll make this sometime soon:)

Found this out at lunch time today.......luckily the cook pointed it out to the waitress after I had ordered it specifically because I thought it was gluten-free. A good reminder for everyone to print out those restaurant menus that are updated monthly; this used to be a gluten-free option last time I checked only a few months ago. The bad thing is that...

ARCHIVED My Health Is Going Downhill
elle's mom replied to elle's mom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To any who suggest ruling out other autoimmune disorders: what type of doctor would be best to do this? I only have my OBGYN and he obviously is not comfortable addressing my issues as he thinks exercising and free time will cure me. The problem for me is that with a super high insurance deductible, any wasted trip to the dr. is also wasted money ... -
ARCHIVED My Heart Is Breaking

Thanks I'll try. I sure am thankful for this forum:) Happy Thanksgiving to you too! -
I don't know what my problem is and I was hoping someone may be able to help. Quick recap of me: I've always been small, moody/irritable, had anxiety, hungry all the time, and need naps every day. Developed acne only in my twenties (now in my 30's, still an issue), had low iron when I tried to give blood as a teenager. My iron has fluctuated between normal...
