ARCHIVED Holding Toddler?
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to mham1126's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was diagnosed at 18 months. Pre diagnosis and during any accidents we had to hold him all the time. His favorite positions when glutenend are swinging or behind held upside down. He will sometimes allow me to put him down with a pillow under his back so that he is arched so I can use the restroom! Good Luck! People don't realize how exhausting... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Elephant Ears?
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to Mom of a Celiac toddler's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Help! The link didn't work for me. It only took me to her blog about her goats. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Children's Advil

ARCHIVED How Long After Diagnosis Did Your Child Start Gaining Weight?
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to ach's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know this is an older post, but I was wondering about the Benecalorie. Has anyone had any luck with it for weight gain, or with PediaSure? My son is 9 months post diagnosis and not gaining as the dr, and I would like! Thanks! -
ARCHIVED How To Handle Playdough In The Classroom?
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to concernedmamma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You are not being overly cautious! There is no such thing in this game! I am fortunate enough to also be able to afford to buy a classroom supply for my kid. I bought Model Magic. The teacher had never used it and really liked it. I also supplied her with ziplocks because if it gets put back into a container or ziplock it can be reused over and over... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Elephant Ears?
Mom of a Celiac toddler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We recently had a festival in town that came with elephant ears. My 6 year old son has had these before, and can no longer. Anybody have any idea as to how I would go about making these gluten-free or something similiar? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Really Long Naps
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to melblondin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You could be singing my song, but he doesn't sleep quite as long as yours. He sleeps for about 2-2 1/2 hours, and 12 hours at night. My son was 18 months, and had dropped from the 95th to 3rd percentile, when we tried to get the diagnosis. We had already been gluten free for a few weeks when we did the biopsy so he was negative, but proceeded as if he was... -

ARCHIVED Honeycomb Cereal
Mom of a Celiac toddler posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was just diagnosed in August so I am still new at this! I was wondering about Honeycomb cereal. We have stayed completely away from oats just in case, but Honeycomb cereal has oat flour. I was just wondering about oats. I know some can handle it and some can't. But please let me know if you or your child has had Honeycomb and what the reaction... -
ARCHIVED Product To Assist Accidentall Gluten?
Mom of a Celiac toddler posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was in Fred Meyer looking for probiotics, when I stumbled across something that claimed to accelerate the digestion of gluten. The main ingredient was Glutanese Powder. Has anyone heard of this or tried it in the case of an accidental glutening? I am just wondering because my guy is almost 2 and we are extremely vigilant, but he goes to daycare and while... -
ARCHIVED Accelerating Accidental Glutening
Mom of a Celiac toddler posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was in Fred Meyer the other day looking for some probiotics, when I came across a product that said it helps aid the digestion of gluten. The main ingredient was glutanese powder. We are very diligent about our two year old not getting gluten, but he does go to daycare three days a week and accidents happen! My doctor just has so little experience with... -
ARCHIVED New Here
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to Katrinamm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I too live in a small town making it difficult to get support locally! You have found the right place! From what I hear a month isn't that long to see results after so many years of damage. Have you started keeping a food log? You could then begin to eliminate one product at a time for several days to see how she does. It may also be psychological (unconsciously... -
ARCHIVED Pizza Parties At School
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to NewGFMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We do pizza at our house quite often. I don't see it as expensive and my family loves the Chebe pizza crust. Maybe the night before the event you could make a pizza and keep a leftover piece for the next day's events. Another option may be to make him a special pizza with corn tortilla or slice of gluten-free bread. I agree that it would be very difficult... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Daycare
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to MichelleW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
These two sample letters were posted in 2007. You may want to do some verifying or tweaking to make sure it is accurate and useful for your child. I'm sure someone out there has something more current, but this worked for me with some tweaking. My daycare provider takes $5 off each day because I send him with all his own food. Although, she is great, and... -
ARCHIVED New Here My 18month Old Has Celiac's
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to jenn33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First of all: I am so sorry you had to watch your little boy suffer so! The hardest part of my life was watching my son pre-diagnosis, because I knew he was not "normal." He is now a very happy 22 month old that can not be slowed down!! Glutino sandwich cookies are just like Oreo's for a special treat. Chebe pizza crust is better than any glutened pizza... -
ARCHIVED 5yo Daughter Getting Egd In The Am.
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to Brooklyn528's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son just had his biopsy done in August. He was only 18 months so he could not articulate how he was feeling like your daughter will be able to. But, he was so thirsty afterwards and we had a long drive from the hospital to home. If this is the case for you I suggest some juice and crackers (gluten-free of course). He wanted to eat about 30 minutes... -
My son has been gluten free for four months now. He is 20 months old. After six weeks he began to say more syllables, but he has been pretty stagnant on the talking front. I really feel there is a direct link between his speech and the celiacs. Have other people experienced this, and if so how long until they started talking? I know someday soon when...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Thanksgiving Dinner Out
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to Mom of a Celiac toddler's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for all the comments! In response to who has the gene, we don't know. I have been tested for Celiac via a blood panel and came out negative, but my husband has yet to be tested. He doesn't want to hear the results (huge gluten fan)! We will bring his own food, they don't charge for him and he is going through this bad "I want what you have phase... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Thanksgiving Dinner Out
Mom of a Celiac toddler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I am new at this gluten-free thing, my almost 2 year old was diagnosed in August. We always go on vacation for Thanksgiving and this year we will be eating at a buffet. I am wondering if there are any items that I could for sure go for for him instead of having to bring all his own food. Here are some of the items they have listed for their buffet:... -
ARCHIVED Flintstone Vitamins
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to Liddle4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We use Lit Critter's also, and my 18 month old cries because he can't have more than a half of one a day! Guess that means he loves them!! -
ARCHIVED Rash On Baby's Back?
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to nu-to-no-glu's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My little guy had it on the back of his neck and shoulders, down to the middle of his back. He was constantly itching also. We have been gluten free for 5 weeks and his rash is almost completely gone and he doesn't itch it anymore! -
ARCHIVED I Just Need To Vent To People Who Understand
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am so sorry for your experience! I too am a teacher, and that is deplorable! I have had my fair share of various run-ins with our school nurse for other health issues. However, we have not had one kid in our school with diagnosed celiacs in my 10 years there. If we don't have another until my son gets there in 3 years he will be the first. I did find... -

ARCHIVED Anybody With Slow Weight Gain? Or Long Lulls In Growing?
Mom of a Celiac toddler replied to MarsupialMama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has anyone ever had their little ones testing for growth hormone deficiencies? I read somewhere that they are linking celiacs with growth hormone deficiencies.
