I went to a gastroenterologist, but I admit: I freaked out at the idea of having to eat gluten in order for any of the tests to be accurate. I asked what I could do instead of eating that poison for weeks before taking an endoscopt, and he suggested a I take a blood test instead. I did, and he called me to say that the results came back normal, except...

ARCHIVED Subtle Symptoms Before The Overt Symptoms
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did you get that after going gluten-free? I'm hungry a lot now, though it's not as bad as it's been before. Still, did you get the starving feeling before going gluten-free? Was it common back when you were eating gluten-containing foods, that those particular foods never really seemed to fill you up? -
ARCHIVED I Went To The Gastroenterologist Today
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since I balked at the idea of eating gluten for a while before taking the test, he decided to try tests to rule out other diseases. The idea is that the special diet and fast before the endoscopy is for the other tests he intends to do. I guess the idea is if I don't have __ and ___ and ____, then Celiac is the only thing left I could have. For the blood... -
ARCHIVED I Went To The Gastroenterologist Today
CGally81 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, I went to the gastroenterologist today, and we talked for a bit. He asked how I found out gluten was the problem, things like that. He says that the fact that I feel better off gluten isn't proof in and of itself that I have Celiac, as "many people feel better off gluten". But he wants to get me tested, of course. So... getting tested for the biopsy... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Iphone App
CGally81 replied to collins146's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It says on the download page that no internet connectivity is needed to use its database. Instead it uses the internet to update the database. Anyway, it's $6. I'm getting it for myself. -
This very site sells a brand of nutrient-filled vitamins that some say worked really well to help reduce the hunger, by giving the body the nutrients it needed and being easier for Celiacs to digest. They're Pioneer brand vitamins. This site sells them here. I just got them in the mail yesterday, so I have to try them, but since Celiacs are often vitamin...

My experience has been that the more calories you eat, the more it helps. After all, when my hunger phase first started, I had to eat the equivalent of a full meal every hour or two! There was no "snack on small things frequently" there, if I did that, I would have passed out or been rushing for a full dinner or two. I did learn though that some foods...

ARCHIVED Will The Vaccine In Development Also Help Autistics?
CGally81 posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It's been discovered in recent years that the autistic brain converts gluten into an opiate, essentially meaning that if we eat the stuff, we're unwittingly taking drugs. I do remember having behavior control problems as a kid, and social problems most of my life, feeling as if I "had" to do or say certain things, kind of in the way that, for instance, Tourettes... -
ARCHIVED Getting Officially Tested, Trial For Treatment As Well?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks. I might check them out. I hope they have a lab in New Jersey. I'd rather not do this by mail, but I'll do what I have to in order to get an "official" diagnosis. -
ARCHIVED Getting Officially Tested, Trial For Treatment As Well?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, for me the idea behind getting cured permanently is not so much to splurge on gluten (I'm autistic and shouldn't eat it because autistics convert gluten into opiates in their brain, so it's bad for me for a different reason that I'd been unaware of my whole life), but rather, so I won't have to freak out about, say, a possible bread crumb or any other... -
ARCHIVED Second Resurgence Of Hunger
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good idea. Maybe when my hunger goes back to normal. I can't imagine eating 4000 calories worth of bananas, popcorn and tunafish for 3 days. And thanks for the info on these vitamins. I just ordered 2 bottles. -
ARCHIVED Getting Officially Tested, Trial For Treatment As Well?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks! Do you think being proven to have the gene will help my chances later of being able to get the vaccine when it is finished and released to the public? I'd need "proof" that I have Celiac, right? I hope this would count as proof, despite the fact that the DNA merely shows my risk of getting it. And good point about the drug trials. I'd hate to get... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have To Be As Strict As Other Celiac Folk?
CGally81 replied to sparky2222's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cling on to hope. The vaccine/cure against Celiac has been tested successfully on mice, and is currently being tested on humans, in Phase 1 (safety) testing. We could get our day yet! -
ARCHIVED Second Resurgence Of Hunger
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went off dairy for a while, since milk used to give me headaches. But it stopped giving me headaches when I reintroduced it after I first went "gluten-free" (note my sig) for a while. It eat dairy, and I'm fine. No symptoms from it, either on days I have a lot or very little. I need chewable vitamins. Pioneer aren't chewable, I assume? I can't swallow... -
ARCHIVED Getting Officially Tested, Trial For Treatment As Well?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, how do I get signed up for the DNA check and such? The blood test to find out? My doctor admits he knows little about celiac, so he wouldn't know what kinds of blood tests to sign me up for, though at least he believes me about being celiac - about my self-diagnosis. I know I could get to a GI doctor through him. He was originally going to sign me... -
ARCHIVED Second Resurgence Of Hunger
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If my digestive system gets back to normal, would those multivitamins work again? Anyway, regarding probiotics and digestive enzymes, I ordered some in the mail that are supposed to be both, and chewable (which is important to me). When do I take those? Before any "questionable" meal? Do I take some in the morning every day? -
Okay, I'm in the "hungry a lot" phase. And with hunger, comes the normal "can't really concentrate" feeling and fatigue that comes with hunger itself. Well, today I had my usual gluten-free foods, and dinner was what it often is on Saturday - cheeseburger (patty only, American cheese) and brown rice. Less than an hour after eating it, I had to use the...

ARCHIVED Second Resurgence Of Hunger
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I'd always taken a multivitamin. The first time I went "gluten-free" (before removing the Fudgsicles), I experienced INTENSE hunger, like having to eat a lot every HOUR. That lasted about a week before dropping to less intense, but still really strong, hunger. It was getting considerably better until I removed the Fudgsicles (which were glutening me... -
ARCHIVED Second Resurgence Of Hunger
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, my hunger levels are definitely what they were, say, a few weeks ago. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I go "gluten-free" in August and my hunger spikes through the roof, but gradually gets better (and then worse again, then better, then worse, still trending towards better). But I remove the one food I'd continued to be eating that contained gluten... -
How many years have you been trying to live a gluten-free life? Almost 3 months so far. Except I was still eating Fudgsicles, which I didn't realize contained gluten (malt powder in this case). I removed those 2 weeks ago. So I actually HAD been going gluten-free for 2 weeks. How often or many times do you think you've been hit with wheat? A few glutenings...

Still going through the resentment, since I'm still going through the "hungry all the time" recovery phase, and knowing that if I eat certain things, it'll only get worse. The fact that I started going through a second withdrawal phase after removing a food that I didn't realize had gluten in it means basically that I'm going through again what I'd been going...

My eyeball has been twitching a lot today and yesterday. I'd removed Fudgsicles from my diet 2 weeks ago, and caught a resurgence in withdrawal symptoms. Including, yes, the hunger, which has gotten pretty bad recently. I had that terrible itching too, at one point, but only for a few days. How long did your symptoms last?

I also used to have trouble with sleep. Getting to sleep, because I was hungry late at night, and I'd often wake up at 5am or so. That had been getting better as the hunger had, and I think the two are related in my case. Eating late at night - a lot - before going to bed, helped with the sleep issue. Helped me get to sleep, and wake up at normal times...

ARCHIVED Getting Officially Tested, Trial For Treatment As Well?
CGally81 replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Biopsy as in the intestine check? What if my villi are no longer flattened? Is there any other way to be confirmed Celiac? Btw, do you think this will affect my ability to get the vaccine later when it is released? I'm afraid that if I do a good enough job of living gluten-free for a few years, the visible damage will be undone, and I might not be able... -
Oh yeah, I forgot about the ringing in the ear. I've gotten some of that, but only to a slight degree, and only on occasion. I've occasionally had the hearing temporarily go soft, but not out, and again, only for short periods of time. I'm not taking any medication. All these withdrawal symptoms, I might add, I'd experienced in my senior year of high school...
