  1. Three hours??? I tried a bread machine and said the heck with it. I use Gluten Free Panty "My favorite sandwich bread". You add water, egg, and a bit of oil mix it up and put it in a bread pan in a warm oven for 40 min, bake for 30 and you are finished. What you get is a WHOLE loaf of bread, no pieces with a paddle in them, and it is delicious. skip...
  2. Hi, I just wanted to clarify something. Your last statement is not true. It is possible, albeit rare, to have DH and NOT have celiac. They are two separate autoimmune responses in the body. DH is carried genetically on very specific genes in the body. Most likely, a DH person has celiac, but one does not necessarily follow the other. I realize this is...
  3. Dear Di, Your doctor sucks. Find another one. Your son is too young to be putting up with that attitude. Our son was diagnosed at 18 with DH. Personally, I don't see that an actual diagnosis is necessary on this. if it loooks like a duck, and walks like a duck, chances are....it's a duck. If Liam feels better on non-wheat foods, then dump the wheat...
  4. Hi WF, I am sorry for your itch. At least you have a diagnosis. Our son has DH. Diagnosed when he was 18. had it everywhere and kept being treated for skin staff infection. legs, buttocks, head, neck, face, arms chest, back etc. He was put on Dapsone which apparently works for many people. His liver started reacting to that, so the docs then put him...
  5. Hi, the other folks are correct, the area to biopsy is next to lesion, not the lesion itself. The old 'back in the day' test for DH was to take Iodine, and rub it on the skin. If it blisters, you were positive. You mentioned sushi. You need to be more concerned about the wheat in the soy sauce, rather than the iodine in the seaweed. Also, you REALLY...
  6. hi, I would suggest either making your own(lots of work, trial and error), or THE GLUTEN FREE PANTRY(brand) "my favorite sandwich bread" is great!! Easy to make, I mix it up in a kitchen aid blender, put it in a bread tin (I line them with parchment paper), let it rise in fairly warm oven for about 45 min, (It should crest top of bread tin), then bake for...
  7. hi Our son has dh, so unfortunately, I am very familiar with it. It's trademark locations are to start up on the elbows, the front of the knees and on the buttocks. It is extremely itchy. One of the itchiest diseases known. The blisters will appear with a clear liquid in them. After having it, it will spread across shoulders, neck, face, down the arms etc...
  8. hi, you probably have the anwsers by now, but KP is definetly NOT DH. DH has pustiules which are liquid filled and you would litally be scratching yourself awake at night and wind up bloody. It is extremely itchy. KP is not, or if it is, it is itcy on a level '1' not '10'. KP is also not runny liquidy pustules, DH is. When DH scabs over, you look as...
  9. Hi, Have you made sure your shampoo is gluten-free? Also, Iodine brings DH out. Good luck
  10. Hi, my heart goes out to both of you for having such young kids with a rash. Our son was 18 when diagnosed. I don't really have any advice for you except that please know DH is EXTREMELY ITCHY. So if your kids are inordinatly cranky, they are probably really itchy..... just a random thought, but do bottles have gluten? I know paper plates contain gluten...

  13. Hi, Where do or did you go to find out that your son is allergic to the fungus on fruits? Our daughter is extremely celiac symptomatic, however, tests negative in all workups, so I must believe it is something in the food chain. I don't know where to go to find out what it is. We live in the boston area. thanks.

Hi, Although you could be correct in your anwser to Martha, it is NOT necessarily true the the DH rash will stop when gluten is eleminated. Even if you are perfect on your diet and environmental items, the dh rash CAN appear. This was explained to us at the Center for Blistering Skin Diseases in Boston, Ma. run out of Baptist Hospital. Good luck!
  15. Go back and Get diagnosed!!! gluten-free is too hard to do if you don't have to. It is for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!!! Take the time now to get an accurate test, find another derm if necessary. Otherwise, you will need to reintroduce wheat to get a biopsy of blisters again. Do it while you have them! Good luck
  16. Hi, it still may be DH. Our son's was diagnosed a yr and ahalf ago and at the time had an extremely bad breakout everywhere, arms, neck, face, eyes, eyebrows, back and chest, knees(front) and elboiws(outside). Sulphapyradine (from Jacobus pharmaceuticals, ....see note to Martha in "looking for soothing relief blog) provided relief. It gets RID of the...
  17. Hi Martha, I called Jobus Pharmaceutical. (609)921-7447 The sulfapyridine (500mg tablets) are actually produced as a trial drug and are given away. no charge. They do this because the demand for the drug is so small, it costs more to bring it to market than it does to give it away. You need to have your doc, (dermotologist) call and enroll you...
  18. Hi Martha, my email is bbuntrock@comcast.net I recd your email at 4:50 today and I called the docs office but they close at 4:30! I will call them tomorrow. If you want you may contact my email as this website is somewhat tedious to get into.
  19. hi, I hope I am typing this in the correct place..... Our son has DH (diagnosed at 18) and after a year from hell from being on every kind of medicine under the son, and ultimetly a semester off from school, he is on a drug called sulfapyridine. He was on dapsone, and had MAJOR problems. Sulfapyridine is widely used in the UK and not used here anymore...
  20. hi, I don't know if you looked into it, but there is such a drug called sulpha-pryadine. Our son is on it as he couldn't tolerate dapson. Dapson IS a terrible drug. Sulpha-pyridine is not avail in drugstores. your doc needs to order it and it is free as it is actually under the guidelines of a controlled test for dh. it is not a new drug. it is what...

    ARCHIVED Dh And Cd

Hi, DH is NOT a component of celiac. It is a seperate disease with it's own diagnosis. A biopsy of the skin, not on the lesion, but within a half of an inch or so of it, must be taken and tested. Usually this is a dermatologist. Before you waste your time, ASK if the doc has ever seen it, otherwise, keep looking and try to find another derm doc who has...
  22. hi, dh is a definite diagnosis. it needs to be made by a dermatologist. Before you waste time with your basic derm doc ASK them if they have ever SEEN it. Most haven't. Dr Habif in Portsmouth, NH has seen it, and published dermatology books on it. DH is a bit different than Celiac. It presented in our son exactly as you describe. He never had any...
  23. hi, this is my first time on this site so i am testing to see if this works before I type everything in.
