  1. Well, DH points out that maybe it's something else in the cake/cupcake other than gluten. Sure, those are the last two gluten exposures, but they're also sources of artificial flavour, artificial colour, etc. So...we're thinking once she's rash free, regular, and doing well, we'll try one more time with a "healthy" gluten (wheat-containing baby cereal...
  2. I have celiac disease (confirmed by positive antibody blood test and positive response to gluten-free diet) - diagnosed in October 2009, but symptoms since infancy. I have a beautiful 8 month old daughter who is sadly showing signs of celiac/gluten intolerance. After lots of deliberation, consulting with my GI specialist and baby girl's ped, we introduced...
  3. I've had symptoms since I was a baby - as soon as food and formula started to be introduced. Eczema, constipation, bloody stool, constant ear infections, projectile vomiting, rashes, anemia, always skinny and small for my age by the time I hit a year old. Later came chronic canker sores, hypoglycemia, joint pain, stomach pain, continued anemia, allergies...
  4. Well, I'm due in 2 days, so it's a bit late to start worrying The timeline wasn't ideal - got the positive blood test for celiac in mid-October. Doc told me to keep eating gluten until after I saw the specialist and had a biopsy & scope done. Specialist appointment booked for mid November. Found out I was pregnant on November 7th (a Saturday...
  5. Thanks for all the responses! I'm in Canada, and it seems our labelling guidelines here are pretty good. I don't buy/eat anything that says "produced in a facility that also produces wheat" etc., or "may contain traces of wheat". I don't eat oats either, even the certified ones, just because my doc said I should avoid them for now since some people do...
  6. Congrats on the pregnancy - wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months I'm 39 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first baby (due Saturday!). I was diagnosed with celiac right at the time I got pregnant, and went gluten-free two days after finding out. I've had a very good/easy pregnancy, and until recently (when I got huge lol) felt better pregnant than...
  7. I'm just wondering if everyone here only eats specialty items that are labeled "gluten free", or if y'all eat anything that doesn't list any gluten sources in the ingredients? I was diagnosed with celiac in October (positive blood test), and have been eating gluten-free since early November. When I grocery shop, I read labels, but if it doesn't list any...
  8. Once you get used to it, you'll find there are a lot of foods out there that are already gluten free. For breakfast, I usually eat cold cereal (I love Nature's Path Honeyed Corn Flakes), yogurt, or a smoothie. Really it's usually cereal though. Sometimes I'll make some yummy gluten-free banana pancakes. Snacks? Tortilla chips with salsa, gluten free...
  9. I'm so sorry to hear about your losses I was diagnosed with celiac just as I found out I was pregnant (this is my first pregnancy after almost 5 years of TTC, am now 21 weeks along). The internist who officially diagnosed me explained that it was critical to avoid gluten while pregnant not only due to absorption issues, but also because the newest...
  10. This is my first pregnancy, and I was diagnosed with celiac disease right at the same time as I found out I was pregnant. Went gluten free as soon as I got the positive pregnancy test. I had no real morning sickness, some nausea for a few weeks, but never actually threw up. And, no doubt as a result of going gluten free, I feel GREAT. I feel better...
  11. Thanks! I'm 30 years old, and, looking at my medical history, have likely had celiac since birth. It's not something commonly tested for around here, and the only reason I got tested was because I was looking at almost 5 years of unexplained infertility, including unsuccessful fertility treatments, and asked for the test since I'd read that untreated...
  12. So the bloodwork at the start of October, which led to my celiac diagnosis, had me with IgA anti-tissue transglutaminase antibody levels of over 200. A strong positive. Because I got pregnant, the specialist didn't do the scope and biopsy, said my clinical presentation, combined with the extremely high antibody levels, were sufficient for diagnosis. Now...
  13. Almost 5 years, including unsuccessful fertility treatments. Got positive blood test for celiac October 13th, still was eating gluten (doc's orders), but cutting down a bit as it was triggering major asthma. Got pregnant October 24th, found out November 7th, gluten free as of November 9th (again on doc's orders). Officially diagnosed with celiac disease...
  14. I was in the middle of being diagnosed with celiac (positive blood test, was waiting to see the specialist) when I got pregnant (after nearly 5 years of trying!). My doctor immediately had me go gluten-free - I've been gluten free since two days after I found out I was pregnant. From what I've read and what my doctor told me, there are a bunch of reasons...
  15. I just have to say, I feel so lucky that my family is so supportive of my being gluten free. Dh is always picking up little gluten-free products he finds (like today he got me gluten-free donuts - yum!). He also is really aware of what he's eaten, and won't kiss me on the lips if he's eaten something with gluten until he's brushed his teeth and washed his...
