ARCHIVED Prometheus Came Back Negative!
Imanistj replied to Imanistj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting that both you and I had bumbling doctors who got the gluten-free diet and the scoping out of sequence. I really wish I could sue my doctor for the stress and expense he caused me. I am not permanently damaged, except for my anger, and I think my suit would be considered frivolous. I can't afford to lose and have to pay a lawyer. Still I have... -

ARCHIVED Prometheus Came Back Negative!
Imanistj replied to Imanistj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Momminda, I am a retired nurse, almost 66, and every day my nursing knowledge grows older. Pediatric medicine is often quite different from the treatment of adults. I hope you have found a really top notch pediatric department in a fantastic medical center. You didn't mention where you live or where you go for medical care. You said your daughter... -
ARCHIVED Prometheus Came Back Negative!
Imanistj replied to Imanistj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Form August until a few weeks ago I spent hours researching celiac disease. I am a retired Registered Nurse and I utilized professional journals in my search. I traveled to the Boston area and attended an excellent seminar put on by the New England Celiac Conference. I read anything I could find by Dr. Peter Green of Columbia and Dr. Kelly of Deaconess... -
ARCHIVED Prometheus Came Back Negative!
Imanistj replied to Imanistj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey, Jersyangel-- One good thing came of my six monthe as a celiac. I asked Sally at Nature Tyme to carry Udi's bread and she was working on it whan I went back on a regular diet. I emailed her to say I might not actually need the bread if I tested negative and she said she planned to continue negotiating with Udi's distributor even if I no longer... -
ARCHIVED Prometheus Came Back Negative!
Imanistj replied to Imanistj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, all I know is that Prometheus says I'm negative, I had duodenal biopsies taken twice, about six months apart in 2009 that are normal and I don't feel any different either on or off gluten. My false positives for lupus and autoimmune liver disease, and my brother's false positive for lupus have not yet resulted in any disease. I will be 66 in April... -
I've been posting occasionally for the past two months as I ate tons of gluten and then waited for the celiac serum test to come back from Prometheus. Prior to that, I wrote mostly to moan because I could never adjust to the difference in gluten-free baked goods from wheat products. I am extremely sensitive to changes in taste and texture and I was totally...

ARCHIVED Prometheus Lab Reports
Imanistj posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is likely that I have been misdiagnosed with celiac disease and I am now waiting for retesting results. This doctor used Prometheus Labs and I am very impatient waiting for the results. I had the blood drawn (in NY State) a week ago and so far there are no reported results. The office staff says it takes a long time to receive reports form the lab.... -
ARCHIVED Meaning Of Various Colored Icons.
Imanistj replied to Imanistj's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks Happygirl. Silly me--I should have known the color GREEN means a HOT topic! Guess it's green for growing and not red for hot. -
I haven't found an explanation for all the colored symbols on the left of the various topics and entries. I'm certain I have overlooked something but I am not good at adjusting to new software.

ARCHIVED Coping With Tax Itemization.

Raven, Here is a worksheet I found online. Open Original Shared Link Nancy -
I couldn't decide exactly where to place this question and I hope this is OK. I hope some members claim the extra cost of gluten-free food on their income tax and can answer my question. I know the difference between gluten-free food and regular food may be claimed as a medical deduction on my income tax return. I have read that the average cost of gluten...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Products You Have Tried And Liked
Imanistj replied to Lanie940's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Udi's products and Bob's Red Mill chocolate cake mix. If I like it, it must be fabulous because I am super picky. I continue to eat gluten (gained 5 pounds ), LOVE all the stuff I am eating and don't feel any different when on or off gluten. The terrible muscle pain and exhaustion continue after any little bit of physical labor. Lots of that white s... -
I saw nothing wrong with the old format and really would like to return to it. I find the new look distracting, too bright, and it takes me much longer to "zoom in" on something I am looking for. The new format is more colorful but for me, it is not an improvement. I will say that I am unable to "intuit" and simply nuts around with new software until I have...

ARCHIVED Pet Peeve Regarding The Slaying Of The English Language.
Imanistj replied to Imanistj's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have a few more. Free gifts. When was the last time anyone paid you for giving them a gift. A gift IS free! Young girl, or boy. If someone is a young girl I must assume we also have old girls. Is a young girl 5? Or 15? Oh, she is a teen! A girl is of the female sex. Girls are not yet adults. Teens are stuck in the middle. Babies can't... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Found Udi's Bread In Portland, Oregon?
Imanistj replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I told the buyer for a local health food store that everybody was raving about Udi's and asked her if she would carry the bread. She found a distributor and should have it in by the end of the month. She was very open to adding something that so many people liked. God luck! -
My gastro doc told me that people who experience a sudden and very large weight loss are prone to GB disease. Some celiac disease patients do have significant periods of weight loss.

ARCHIVED Moxie Cola Is gluten-free!
Imanistj replied to bethmon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
He didn't know what gluten is--I'm sure even fewer people know about Moxie. I grew up on Long Island Sound in southern Connecticut. My father came from Maine and right up until his death he managed to return to Maine at least once a year. When I was little I remember him bringing home wooden boxes made to hold small glass bottles of Moxie. In those days... -
ARCHIVED Just Starting The Process
Imanistj replied to Robinchk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you have the biopsy on the 21st, and did you stay on gluten until then? I had a doctor who told me I didn't have to go back on gluten before the test. I did, but it was less than two weeks and then I had the biopsy. Now I have a positive transglutaminase, a blood test that is considered very indicative, positive genetic testing and a completely normal... -
ARCHIVED Udi's Bread
Imanistj replied to DMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
White and whole grain are different, as they are supposed to be. Depending on my mood I will choose one or the other. They are kind of like my kids; both are different but both are equally great! What are you waiting for--buy a loaf of each and then you can join the ILU club. -
ARCHIVED Bone Marrow Biopsy Friday
Imanistj replied to luvdogz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
All I can tell you is what I would do. Knowing the doctor suspected myeloma would drive me to have any test that could rule it out. How long has he been following you? How quickly could you get a second opinion? A bone marrow aspiration will leave you achy for a while after the procedure but I would not fear the discomfort as much as a positive diagnosis... -
The feeling was as if someone reached inside me and made a tight fist right around the top of my stomach, where it joins the esophagus. The area is in the middle, very near the bottom of your breast bone. It might help to find a diagram of the digestive system to see the actual location. I never felt pain but the pressure/strangulation sensation was just...

ARCHIVED Udi's Bread
Imanistj replied to DMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am the world's pickiest eater. Every post that has recommended a particular loaf or mix has been a disappointment. I don't like corn tortillas. I was totally miserable with the gluten-free diet, mostly because I couldn't find an acceptable bread. The taste was off and the texture drove me nuts. I like to sip a beverage while I eat and every time the...
