  1. I fell in love with the white first, and then I tried the whole grain. Both are great, as far as I am concerned. I tried the blueberry muffins. I found them a little too sweet but the texture was good. I have some pizza crust in the freezer but haven't tried it because I am currently on a 6 week gluten challenge. I am curious that other companies continue...

    ARCHIVED Appendicitis?

Please get the HIDA and any other tests your doctor suggests. I had prolonged vomiting episodes for about three years before I finally had my gall bladder removed. Fixing my problem was complicated because I never had pain. I had a terrible sensation as if someone were holding my stomach tightly closed. I couldn't eat or drink because I kept vomiting...
  3. Do you believe the pharmacist did an accurate check or did he act as if he knew without contacting the manufacturer? I take 13 different meds every day and I contacted the manufacturer of each one. Some responses were more informative than others, but all claimed that particular med is safe. The companies I feel were the most honest told me that wheat...
  4. Most people in the US are guilty of this..... I always try TO do something. Sometimes I succeed; I try AND do it.
  5. I was told to find a dietitian and go on a gluten-free by a staff member in the doctor's office. There was no offer of an explanation of the diet and no recommendation of a celiac smart dietitian. I am a retired RN and I love my computer, so I was able to fend for myself. Still, it rankled me to be told that way. I was on the gluten-free diet for three...
  6. I had a perfectly good gastroenterologist who diagnosed and treated my sick gall bladder which eventually had to be removed. I was told by my fibromyalgia doc that I tested positive for autoimmune liver disease. I panicked and asked for a consult with a hepatologist and he is the one who decided I had celiac disease. I certainly never had the classic...
  7. Thank you. I promise, I'll remember this time!
  8. Sorry for yet another dumb question--how do I read everything I have written? I am actually looking for someone's reply but I can't remember what the topic was. Thanks.
  9. Please, before you encourage him to take anything for his discomfort, have him call his doctor's office and leave the doctor a question regarding the use of any treatment not prescribed by that doctor. Using any medicinal, herb, etc. could affect the appearance of the bowel on examination. I know your friend is suffering but it would be a shame if he took...
  10. I would suggest waiting to see the immunologist and then try the tetracycline. My thinking is not to introduce anything new so the immunologist can evaluate you without the complication of an added med. You might also ask him if he feels trying tetracycline is reasonable. I know that many years ago tetracycline was a popular drug used in the treatment...
  11. I always feel a little embarrassed for Brits when they call TV or television "telly."
  12. TrillumHunter-- OMG! I was just being silly when I wrote that post (#129)! I have thoroughly enjoyed every response since I started this thread. Guess you aren't going to add your name the list. I don't believe "yummy" will be so ubiquitous in a year or two. I think it is mostly a fad and people will eventually find a new term to overwork....
  13. Are any of you who have read and/or responded to my original post regarding my aversion to the word "yummy" (I feel nauseated just writing the word ) making an effort to stop using the noxious term? Please folks, I am almost in tears every time I see or hear it. How about a list of people who swear they will never again use that *>@#^! <#%*^...
  14. Jule's says the flour has a shelf life of 18 months. I plan to buy Udi's bread so the only flour I will use will be for sweets, mostly. I can't allow myself to bake a lot of goodies because I have very poor will power and always chow down on anything "good." The shipping to NY is costly and all I really want to order is a 5 pound bag. If I buy 6 bags...
  15. I find books I want at Barns and Noble and then find them on Amazon and get cheap used copies.
  16. Fabulous!!!! A composite of my three cats.
  17. The sugar in fruit is just as fattening as table sugar. Diabetics have to be aware of the sugar intake they get from fruit as well as other foods. Fruit is loaded with vitamins so taking in sugar from fruit is far better for you than getting it from candy. If you are not diabetic or don't have a problem digesting a specific kind of sugar, a well balanced...
  18. Good idea. I will ask the deli super if I can leave an order for a first AM slicing and pick it up later in the day. I am seldom up before 10 AM and if this works I won't have to get up three hours after I go to bed For those of you who are tsk-tsking about how late I stay up, I worked for years on the 2nd and 3rd shifts and my body decided it liked late...
  19. I have a question for those of you who react to small amounts of CC. I don't feel any different on the gluten-free diet so I can't tell. I have found gluten-free deli ham and turkey and I wonder how much gluten one might get if the slicer isn't cleaned prior to cutting my order. I haven't been asking the clerk to clean the machine because I am embarrassed...
  20. Hi, MindytheOrganist--I'm NancytheBassoonist! I feel for your husband because I really chafe at the dietary restrictions. I am like the Princess and the Pea because I am so sensitive. I can feel and taste the difference of gluten-free food way beyond what most members report. Still, I have no option but to follow the diet because I believe that eating...
  21. I am fairly newly diagnosed at age 65. The gluten-free diet can be quite expensive and if you have medical bills high enough (I believe it is 7.5% of your total income) you can declare part of the cost on your income tax. You might do well to have professional advice, at least this year, to make you aware of all the record keeping necessary. If your...
  22. I Googled the town and find it sad for the former residents. It appears it was once a pleasant and productive community.
  23. If I had the money I would want to open a cafe/bakery/grocery called Wheatless in Wheat! I wonder if the town is large enough to support such a business?
  24. Missy'mom--- Thank you!!!!
  25. I am unaware of doing anything to change my screens or settings but everything is different from the way things looked and acted when I first joined. I want to open with a view of all the different topics available. When I view a post I get a collapsed list of responses to view. I have tried going to a page where the +/- option can be changed. I click...
