  1. It's toooooo gross even to think about imagining the hook worm wriggling and jiggling inside of you, there was an old lady who swallowed a fly, i don't know why whe swallowed a fly, perhaps she'll die....... I think I'll just remain gluten free, thanks but no thanks...
  2. I don't want to bang the drum on this, but i will you don't know if there is a food allergy/intolerance issue, it could be a co-incidence that they are asymptomatic now. but I don't know and you don't know jestgar, I am not a GI expert, is it right to ignore symptoms of something just because you are asymptomatic at the moment, it could be a coincidence....
  3. Thanks for clearing up my impression of what is fact and what is proposal... Having lived in different countries and travelled quite a lot I tend to mix my countries labelling laws and criterias up...... Thats why i lean towards mainly fresh unprocessed foods makes for a simpler life and you only have to sans gluten in one language.....
  4. I was under the impression that in the US the criteria was >20ppm to be labelled gluten-free and at that level damage can still occur to some individuals who are highly allergic/sensitive, I will stand to be corrected on that but I think that the study I remember reading was conducted in NZ (the author might have been Dr Chinn but I'm not certain of that...
  5. I know this isn't light hearted but I just want to remember the brave soldiers all over the world.. They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. I salute you and remember....
  6. Well for me the fog is a heavy feeling across my forehead it feels like my thought processes are wading through a bog, you know the sort that holds on to your legs and sucks them in making it difficult to stand up let alone walk, that's what the fog does to my thought processes, i can't function properly when that happens, i just can't get the neurones to...
  7. Maltodextrin can be derived from any starch. In the US, this starch is usually from corn; in Europe, it is commonly wheat. the manufacturers say that because maltodextrin is such a highly processed ingredient, that the protein is removed, thereby rendering it "gluten free". If wheat is used to make maltodextrin, it will appear on the label. That said if you...
  8. you can find me in the supermarket aisles with a magnifying glass (it's an age thing) reading label after label, that's why i tend to stick to fresh non-processed foods. FRESH is best
  9. Ha- well I guess its a combination of my dark humor and negativity. Most of the time when I post it is based on genuine frustration, but I always try to incorporate an element of humor, even when times are tough ;)

  10. i just want to add that yes you do go through a grieving process when you realise what you can't eat any more, crying screaming, why me.. and yes it does feel hopeless as if things will never be the same again, but believe us those feelings do pass, i couldn't bear to watch other people eating "normal food" and that passed, then, i used to obsess and watch...
  11. I joined this site a couple of days ago, and it was a big yay for me to find it having only just moved to the States 3 weeks ago. I love all the hints and tips people post, I know it will help me heaps in finding my way around the American gluten-free experience. I was diagnosed with celiac disease 8 years ago and although my teenage children never got...
  12. Not had that experience thankfully but have you thought about psoriasis ?
  13. Don't know if this helps but i was SOB too but not all the time, turned out to be low iron levels combined with low haemoglobin.........
  14. I feel for your frustration with the medical profession but my biggest insight for you is don't give up trying to find out what the cause of her symptoms are, medications can mask symptoms and that's what they are treating the symptoms and not the cause.... i do know that it can take up to 12 months for the colon to recover from constipation. i also know...
  15. It bothers me that you're bothered by what they think.... Celiac Disease was first described by the medical profession as a disease as early as the 1800's it just wasn't given the name Celiac Disease at that time but the symptoms were recognised and it was known that feeding infants with different food alleviated the symptoms of the disease...... failure...
