  1. You all asked to share in the agony of defeat. Sorry you asked?
  2. None of those ingredients raise a concern to me.
  3. Can you supply the source for this assertion, please. It contradicts everything we have ever heard here.
  4. Hi, Tom! Good to see you. Sometimes it is lonely being the only male here, especially when the ladies start discussing their feminine issues.
  5. Yes, I do. I haven't had an incident in a long time, so it is hard to be sure, but in terms of an autoimmune trigger, one typical cookie contains a large amount of gluten.
  6. Some react immediately. Others take hours before symptoms begin. After a significant ingestion, my symptoms develop in about 12 hours and are serious for a few days then decline and are gone in about a week. When I say a significant ingestion, I am not referring to CC, but something like eating the wrong cookie by mistake. I don't suppose that was what...
  7. It is difficult for most people to understand just how careful celiacs have to be about cross contact with gluten. You don't need to "defend" yourself, in my opinion, but you *do* need to be firm. People do not need to understand your reasons, nor do they need to agree with them, but they *must* respect your absolute right to choose what you do and do...
  8. Smirnoff vodka is made entirely from corn. There are other beverages with the Smirnoff brand name which are not gluten-free. In particular, Smirnoff Ice is usually malted barley, not distilled corn (it varies from state to state and country to county based on local law).
  9. It wasn't me, although I had the same problem. I went back after my reply failed and copied the reply to the clipboard (Ctrl-A followed by Ctrl-C). Then discovered that another mod had moved the topic from coping to ingredients while I was replying. Went there and successfully posted. I think I know who did it; Darn210 was reading when I started my reply...
  10. Milk, eggs, MSG, rice and potatoes are all gluten-free. Celiac disease damages the villi, and as a result can cause temporary lactose intolerance until the villi have healed. The villi produce the enzyme lactase which is needed to digest lactose. Pure oats are tolerated by many celiacs, but most commercially available oats are contaminated with wheat...
  11. Especially the Choking Hazard. Pause the video and read the whole thing.
  12. I'll second the support for Tinkyada. We buy them at a local independent grocery store. We are in a suburb of Toronto. Elf's comments about cross-contamination are bang on, as well.
  13. Yes, it is legal. A discussion of the label regulations, however, is a topic for the Gluten-Free Ingredients & Food Labeling Issues forum--feel free to start one there.
  14. Hi and welcome. Coeliac is a variant spelling of celiac used in the UK and some other countries. They are the same thing. I was out during my two gastroscopies, so I don't remember how long they took. I had colonoscopies done at the same time, which lengthens the procedure. The preparation for a colonoscopy is not any fun. You should not expect any...
  15. Um, I need to remember to keep my clothes on when we meet again. No point in causing excessive jealousy among other men. Gluten-free gravy can be made with corn starch as a thickener. Glutino makes a gluten-free brown gravy mix. Close enough for government work. When milk is curdled to make cheese, the solid part is the curds...
  16. There are very complicated legal requirements about labeling in the US and in Canada. There are probably many other countries with similar codes. Most ingredients that can be listed have rules about what they can and cannot be. The law most discussed here is Open Original Shared Link It requires wheat to be disclosed in packaged food sold in the US, regardless...
  17. Twas Laura who lost Toby. Loved the dance video. I am one of those who thinks poutine is gross. The word "poutine" is French for "mess."

  19. Whey is a dairy product and is gluten-free. It is the liquid left over after milk is coagulated, as in the making of cheese. It contains casein, so if you are avoiding casein avoid whey.
  20. Three weeks does seem to me to be a long time. It has been a long time since I had a gluten incident, but I recovered in about two weeks, Major symptoms were gone in a week. The amount of gluten could be a factor. It sounds like you ingested a lot.
  21. Surgery? Just imagine how much work my vasectomy involved. A ball hauler?
  22. Canola oil is gluten-free, as is butter. Here is some more information that will help with label reading in mainstream foods:
