  1. It has been quite a few posts since there has been one about Dr. Fine or Enterolab, which is, as we may recall, the topic here. This isn't about Rachel's diet, or anything else about her, or any other board member for that matter. This is about Dr. Fine and his testing methods. Additional posts about that are welcome, but otherwise it is time to move on...
  2. Livingstone. My great-great-grandfather, James Livingstone, was born on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, in February 1810. He came to Canada with his wife, Mary McMillan, and their newborn daughter in 1843, settling in Wellington County, Ontario, where they had nine more children. James was a cousin of Open Original Shared Link according to family history.
  3. Actually, we don't watch much TV at all, and never got into CG (my brother Rob likes it). We do all three CSI shows, despite Caruso/Caine who is one giant pompous ass. And, Emily, remember that I was born in your sleepy little burg of Ottawa, across the street from the farm. One of my grandparents was of Scottish descent. She was born in Canada...
  4. Well, Greater London is roughly circular with a diameter of about 30 miles, so you can be 14 miles from the center and still be inside the boundary. Nikki is in the east end. It is a big metropolis. Of course, the actual City of London is roughly one square mile in the center of it all. Gee, tis quiet here today, both here in sillyville and at our store...
  5. Hi, Shelley, and welcome to the board. This post by happygirl has good information:
  6. Um, just to be sure, you are talking about a turkey here, right Sooz?
  7. Congratulations to Amanda and John!!! :)
  8. This is a coincidence. There is no connection between us and Open Original Shared Link It looks like they had it a lot worse than we did. We lost 14-1/2 hours of data. It sounds like they lost 8 months of data. Speaks loudly to the importance of doing regular backups.
  9. Click here to go the the Lyme Disease Thread. It has been going for well over a year now, and has over 840 posts.
  10. Click here for details of the recovery.
  11. The system failed around 3:23 pm (Pacific time) on Friday, November 21. Efforts to recover the database were not successful, and the board was restored from a backup taken around 1 am Pacific time on Friday. Posts made during that period of about 14-1/2 hours are permanently lost, as are any personal messages sent during that time. Personal messages that...
  12. Liz, I had symptoms that I can now identify as probably celiac since early childhood. I am 54. My diabetes was diagnosed in 1986 when I was 31. My celiac disease was not diagnosed until 2000, but definite and extreme symptoms were evident from at least 1995. Diabetes is easy to detect and diagnose. Celiac is far less well known, and very often misdiagnosed...
  13. I am not sure that this is actually the case. There is a higher incidence of celiac disease among type 1 (autoimmune) diabetics than there is in the general population. The reverse is also true. If you have either condition, you are more likely to develop (or already have) the other. It is not known whether one causes the other, but it is generally thought...
  14. I'm here! Busy times, so I haven't been on as much, and haven't had much to say in any event. But I am reading, and trying to keep up.
  15. That is one way. It is, however, not the ONLY way. In the US, as has been previously noted, if any grain product is present in any meat, it MUST be declared on the label. Gluten comes from certain grains, and therefore there is no way it can be hidden in another ingredient in a meat product in the US. Period.
  16. My avatar had regressed to one from about a week ago--the Emily & Peter photo. I have just reloaded my Samatar, so we'll see in a moment what shows up. Edit: The reload was successful and Sam is back.
  17. Rob has sold film rights to some of his works, although none have yet been produced. I don't recall just which ones they are. The story is hard to put down. Jack has it easy. When he finishes a book, the next one is at the book store. I read them as they came out from the publisher (I did not get advance copies), and so had to wait about a year between...
  18. No, MSG is not gluten. There are no special considerations regarding MSG due to celiac disease.
  19. Your sig says you have been gluten-free for more than nine months. At this point, even if you do have celiac, the tests would likely be negative. It doesn't mean you don't have celiac, what it does mean is that you are successfully following the diet. The colonoscopy can reveal other conditions which may be causing symptoms, but will not tell anything...
  20. He's EVERYWHERE. Yeah, Bevvie, ante up.
  21. When I wasn't looking, Oliver snuck out and, as the saying goes, Look what the cat dragged in!
  22. A gentle giant, our Oliver is. He weighs in at 22 pounds, and measures 30 inches from his nose to the end of his tail. When he was younger, he would go for walks on a leash, like a dog. He is bigger than some of the dogs in the 'hood. Now, he mostly stays in the house or out on the deck. He hasn't left the yard in years.
  23. As Laura and Richard have noted, the single word "maltodextrin" on a product sold in the USA must refer to material derived from corn, rice or potato. This has been the FDA rule since at least 1983. Any source other than those three must be explicitly labeled, and that includes barley.
  24. I was going to send Oliver out looking for the Manhead in our neighboUrhood, since he seems to be everywhere lately, but all Ollie wanted to do is sleep on the love seat (which he takes up about half of). See avatar for recent view, about one hour ago. A quiet day here. It rained all day yesterday, but today has been dry with a few flurries this afternoon...
