ARCHIVED Still Tired
macocha posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My son is still pretty tired and was diagnosed 2 months ago. I imagine that it will still take some time, but the dietician wanted his thyroid checked and asked that his PCP order it. (this for mood swings too) The PCP stated that his levels were normal in Jan (pre-diagnosis) and didn't need new tests. I am wondering if his thyroid test could be... -
ARCHIVED High Igg Gliadin But Neg Everything Else
macocha replied to mom2kae's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am with Kater. Especially given your child's age, they need to be referred to a pediatric gi. a four year olds blood tests are not reliable for this disease. Open Original Shared Link and on that link it has this: In children younger than three, with symptoms, antibody testing may not always be accurate. However, young children with symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Would You Consider This Correct?
macocha posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
that typically and normally one would either have a wheat allergy or celiac disease. They can have both - but it is not common... I posed a question to my daughter's allergist because she tested negative for wheat allergy. I asked if that means she most likely would not have celiac then, and he said that it is not common to have both - normally it... -
ARCHIVED Potato Chips
macocha replied to BackTalk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
kettle came out with a new flavor... loaded baked potato! YUM! with the other chips, lays, ruffles, you have to worry a bout cross contamination and your sensitivity. those aren't on a dedicated gluten-free line. the staxx are though. isn't cool ranch doritos gluten-free? I believe that was one flavor that was okay. -

macocha replied to Terrified Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED New And Pretty Scared
macocha replied to Terrified Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
adding that you should keep a notebook of what you give him right now - maybe that will help - and his reactions. I also would take photos of the rash so if he has an appt and it is gone - you don't have a thing to show the GI doctor. I will say that if I hadn't of pushed with my kids - they would not be diagnosed now. I would put him back on gluten... -

from your son's age I would go right to a GI specialist - that blood test is not conclusive for a son your age! here is a list of symptoms: Open Original Shared Link specifically this blurb: "In children younger than three, with symptoms, antibody testing may not always be accurate. However, young children with symptoms (especially failure to... -

ARCHIVED Glucose Breath Test
macocha replied to Bobbijo6681's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
editing to say that fruit is just a small portion of what she has to avoid, but she can still eat some fruit - just not a lot of it. she also has to avoid other foods. just clarifying. tired today. blah. -
ARCHIVED Glucose Breath Test
macocha replied to Bobbijo6681's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hmmm...okay. my daughter has fructose intolerance and it mimics celiac in a lot of ways. and that is what caused her gut infection. not being able to process the fruit. she can eat some fruits - just not all of them. -
ARCHIVED Glucose Breath Test
macocha replied to Bobbijo6681's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
do you mean hydrogen breath test - fructose? and if you meant that one, that is the test that is done to test for infection in the gut/lower intestine due to fermentation of fructose not being able to transfer out into the blood stream (or something like that). it is also the test for fructose intolerance. it is a 4 hour breath test. -

ARCHIVED Im In Tears. Please Someone Help. Celiacs?
macocha replied to MATERIALGIRL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
(((Hugs))) first off! 2nd - I believe I would switch docs at this point. also, have you had allergy testing? Could you maybe have fructose malabsorption? That can also give you the distended stomach and problems you are listing... they test that with a hydrogen breath test. I hope you get some answers. First thing though - I would switch docs... -
ARCHIVED Chicken And Gluten Intolerance
macocha replied to Peace41's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Interesting topic. Started spazzing a bit, and then kept reading, but then realized that my son does fine. Although, I do get my beef and pork from organic grass-fed, no antibiotic given, animals from my father in law's farm (we are in WA state - anyone interested...lolol) Eggs, I get from my parents when their chickens start laying them. And... -

ARCHIVED Having A Hard Time W/ My Son And His Diagnosis
macocha replied to macocha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
tarnal - no I have not written each word I stated to him as you imagined so I just generalized my statement. but the gist is that we talk about ways he can express himself safely and w/o being disrespectful. he knows I understand. we both also have a medical condition no one else has in our fam, so we have talked forever about things - we are very close...
