  1. the doc is having my other children tested and those labs are the: TTG IGA (which I guess is the main important one) and then Total IGA. Hope this helps
  2. "Telling him that his emotions are not acceptable is telling him that he's even more wrong, broken, weird, a freak, than he was with just the celiac diagnosis." Wow Reba, that was a bit harsh. I don't think you really read my posts at all to come to that basis of your opinion. You are saying that feelings and behavior are the same? Really? Hmmm......
  3. buffet - I will talk to him about that. As to understanding, I totally get it and understand that he has a life change, that he is mad that he has to watch his friends devour food he no longer can have. I get it - really I do. As I told him, I understand your anger and you have every right to it, but you also need to realize that acting the way you...
  4. oh and we have Mary Bridge Children's Hosp - but their counselors are two months out, sometimes three months, so I have a call in for some names that they deal with in relation to counselors who specialize in kids with chronic illnesses.
  5. He is 12 and is in 7th grade. Will be 13 in July. We are in Washington State on the west side near Tacoma. about an hour south of Seattle. 2 hours north of Portland, Oregon. we got it out of him that he was scared to eat at his last appt in relation to him being upset then. he was scared to eat even if I said it was okay. I am trying to get him into...
  6. my son is 12 and pre-diagnosed he would sleep all night, at times in class, and then all afternoon - sometimes through the night.
  7. his grades are sliding. refusing to do his work. going from As to Cs in short amt of time. He is very, very upset and angry over this. anyone else? how did you get through it? it is affecting school, home, life. I have calls in for counseling, but I have to find one that is familiar with kids with chronic illnesses or whatever it is...
  8. No - they only did the TTG IGA and Total Immuglobin IGA. what is missing? I have an appt for follow up with the one diagnosed with Celiac, so I will ask him more specifically. I am just confused on what I should test them for.
  9. Okay, the twin of the one diagnosed with celiac had this result: Ttg IGA less than 3 (range is less than 5 is negative) Immuglobin A - 86 Immuglobin G - 1040 Immuglobin M - 83 Ranges apparently are A - 33-235 G - 592-1723 M - 36-314 So this is good. Is there any other test we should do? Or is he looking good. Now my 4 year...
  10. thank you! we are just getting started so this is extremely helpful!
  11. my son had an A1c before diagnosed and it was at the higher end of the spectrum (4 points away from being above the "average high end"). So, I am wondering if he should be retested since there is a correlation between the two. his urine did show kestones (sp?) in the beginning, but his A1c showed "normal."
  12. and still eating gluten make your A1c (diabetes) test not read correctly?
  13. if one in family is diagnosed... TTG IGA and Total IGA
  14. curious to know - would being celiac cause your blood alcohol level to be way higher than what it in reality really is?
  15. Is she on a daily multi-vitamin? my son is and has to take extra vitamin d for his is low. My son also experiences extreme fatigue, but I think I would have a doc talk to her about her sneaking food and what it is doing to her. helps coming from a 3rd party.
  16. when your child was diagnosed with celiac - did they go ahead and test everyone in the family? what were you advised?
  17. thanks everyone! I have to also watch the snacks for my daughter who is fructose intolerant, so some of those listed are a no no for her. but I am debating having a bin for him and a bin for her... I am sooooooo relieved that there are multiple things he can still have! we tried pancakes last night for dinner made from Pamela's and they were a hit...
  18. the glue was mentioned in a handout that I got from the dietician. hmmm... gluestick for envelopes...that's a good idea.
  19. Hi everyone! My son just got diagnosed this last week. he is in jr. high and I was wondering a couple things. Are there any snacks out there that you have found you absolutely love and are gluten-free? is there anything in the schools environment that we should look out for that he could have a potential reaction to? For example, glue or envelopes...
  20. be very very pushy with the doctors when you go in. If I hadn't have pushed, I would still wonder what is wrong with my daughter (fructose intolerance) and wouldn't know that my son has celiac (just recently diagnosed). if you know something is wrong, do not stop until you get answers. ask them to run more labs. tell them you KNOW something is wrong and...
  21. my son has officially been diagnosed with celiac. got the biopsy results back and it is a positive. greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat....ugh. have an appt with the dietician tomorrow.
  22. try and get them to order a hydrogen breath test too. the double over in pain makes me say this. my daughter did this (and school even called 911). it tests for fructose malabsorption/intolerance.
  23. he had his endoscopy today. the photos he took clearly show diseased areas. The doctor is confident that he does in fact have celiac. Oh crud! we will know officially by Monday, but like I said he is confident we can go with this diagnosis. I am so scared I can't do this. I am horrible at following through and now I have no excuse - I just have...
  24. wish us luck I am going to ask the gi doc how many samples he is going to take. I hope we get the answers we need!
