  1. My friend sent me a link for this recipe. We made it last week and it was a HUGE hit! YUMMY! dough: 1 cup rice flour 1 cup tapioca flour 1 cup cornstarch (can use 1/2 cup arrowroot and 1/2 cup rice flour) 1 tsp xanthum gum 2 tsp egg substitute (some mentioned using flaxseed instead) 3/4 cup cocoa 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp...
  2. I have so been there...so been there. We are a family of 8...6 full time and 2 part time. I so totally understand your feelings. My son was diagnosed in March, so I am pretty new to this as well. I have one daughter that has fructose/intolerance malabsorption too, so three different diets in the household is a mess. hang in there, and the lovely...
  3. My son eats all the gluten free chex flavors and is fine. no reaction and he is somewhat senstive we have found out. no problems.

    ARCHIVED Children Tested?

Hmmm...I told the kids' ped that the GI doctor wanted them tested and he would have to order the tests and which ones. No flack from him. Also told him every couple years they need to be retested. I think I am fortunate in that regard. I cannot believe that some of your doctor's will not test. They don't have to have symptoms to have celiac.
  5. I am really, really glad to hear that your meeting went well! that is fantabulous! I have had nothing but help with my son's school when diagnosed! They did a 504 plan on their own (not many will do) that covers his withdrawal periods and any other where he may fall asleep in class (not to be abused) and if there is an activity in the classroom with...
  6. he is outside and plays. I try not to compare him to his siblings, but that is hard. I had practice with the twins though in not comparing...lol I do watch him though. there have been times where he complains of tummy aches, but not in excess...so it is watch and see at this point. thanks!
  7. what about shingles? could it be that your body is stressed and this is the way it is reacting? just putting it out there. whatever it is - I hope it clears up! Acne shouldn't be that painful, should it?
  8. Maybe I am clueless about this whole entire ordeal, but I am wondering... my son, who is now 13, was diagnosed in March. All the other kiddos tested negative (three others) and one had the Endo because of other issues. Found she has gastitis on top of the fructose malabsorption, but negative for celiac. Son's twin tested negative too but he shows...
  9. I paid 4.79 for a small box of the gluten free bisquick. can't believe the price. Beth, here is the recipe if you want... 1 box of yellow cake mix (gluten free) 1 cup pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie mix) 1/2 cup water 1/3 cup veggie oil 4 eggs 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice 1 container of betty croker cream cheese frosting (I am sure...
  10. you know what I else I forgot to mention. When he was first diagnosed, Cody told the social worker (we talked to one too at the hosp) and the dietician that he was scared to eat. even if I said it was okay. that was a major break through in the beginning. I am glad the pantry idea worked!
  11. someone told me their shampoo, conditioner and body wash (kirkland brand) is gluten-free too.
  12. My son went through horrific moods when we went gluten free. I did ask where in the heck my son went. I wonder if her having a fit over a certain item is her way of expressing her anger over the issues and withdrawals are making it that much worse. I cannot find my post, but my son was having a very hard time. his grades slipped in one month's time, he...
  13. my son likes udi's bread too. there is a bakery here in Washington that has a fantabulous bread too. they sell at a gluten-free store I shop at. He likes that bread too! He does not like Udi's pizza shells though.
  14. my son has had teeth issues for years and didn't even know about the relation. he has either no enamel or some enamel (soft) on his teeth. we just make sure to put sealants on his teeth and watch to make sure sealants don't fade off/fall off/whatever it is that they do I wish I would have known now what I did then. Glad everything worked out...
  15. quoted from post above ""My" pizza recipe is from Bette Hagman's book The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread. I highly recommend this book if you want to tackle baking. I originally borrowed it from the library, and then bought a copy. I'll send you the recipe on a PM". I will have to track down this recipe book. I have none yet and I do bake, and...
  16. I make rice crispy treats using rice chex or honey nut chex. my son loves them - as the whole family does. We also will add white choc chips in it before it cools to make it have a diff flavor as well.
  17. thanks, David for posting that! I will no longer worry about that! appreciate the info!
  18. Mindy, I have a recipe alteration for the yellow cake mix. you mix in pumpkin. it is on the recipe board somewhere...lol
  19. I knew about envelopes, but didn't even think about this. My son doesn't have DH that I know of..he used to get dry skin pretty bad, but not so much anymore, but band-aids...wow - never would have thunk...lol
  20. Thanks GFmanna - I knew about the cereals, but figured for other reasons. I was looking at his cafeteria purchases and was like...wait a second...he can't have that, can he?? The v.p. went and grabbed the product and pulled him out of gym and said, "hey bud, can't have this and this is why..." I LOVE his school! they are the best at helping us through...
  21. yeah - I would push the blood testing up sooner because you have to be on the wheat/gluten in order for you to test right. Also - bread is a no no if it is regular white bread. You have to go with specially made bread. Also - check your rice cakes. There are limited brands that specialize this diet. You would naturally assume that rice cakes would...
  22. I didn't think so. I will call the school now! thank you so much for answering!
  23. Make sure your local stores are aware. I have asked ours to carry some products they did not have and some they have been happy to oblige
  24. Are Malts okay? I just noticed my son is having those at school (checked cafeteria purchases) and that he has been wanting to sleep a lot again lately - just want to make sure. Thanks!
  25. until you are diagnosed, you need to stay on gluten unfortunately. if you remove it then it will skew results if they do any other testing. (false negatives) All I know regarding children is that if they are under 3 or 4, that blood tests (negative moreso) are not very accurate. it is good that you are going to a pediatric gi. I am not good...
