ARCHIVED Chocolate Cake In A Mug
DMarie replied to DMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you, thank you, thank you Purple!!!! I distinctly remembered not using egg - and my little cake previously didn't have the eggy/spongy texture the recipe with egg has. I also felt pretty sure I used water and not milk as well. -
I stumbled across a recipe for a chocolate cake in a mug some time ago. I thought it was on this forum. Many variations for the recipe were given. I lost the recipe. :-( I have tried googling it - and have tried another recipe I found - but it isn't the same. The one I tried previously didn't use egg, if I remember correctly (and maybe I am remembering...

Pele - those seasoned red lentils sound good. I haven't tried lentils yet. I believe it is the digestive enzymes causing the nausea. I waited until after I ate breakfast this morning to take it. I ate a slow, leisurely breakfast (probably took 30 minutes to eat what I had prepared). Then about 5 minutes after I finished eating I took the capsule -... -

Okay, the vague burning after eating seems to be subsiding (after eliminating all Nexium). The mucus problem is minimal for most of the day which is absolutely wonderful! I am trying not to get too excited about it in case it isn't permanent. This morning after eating I felt nauseous. I felt mostly okay after lunch (I don't remember feeling nauseous... -

Thanks Ali! I have talked to her about gluten before. I don't think she has brain fog so much as she is under great stress - and the memory isn't what it used to be (even off gluten - neither is mine!). I have also taken her along vicariously on my SCD journey. I am with you - I think EVERYONE would be better off without gluten. But - no one wants to... -

This is a little off topic - but I know many of you on this thread are familiar with herbs/supplement usage. I had a co-worker ask me about herbal supplements to support brain function (increase alertness, maybe help improve memory). Is there anything that anyone would recommend? Anything you or someone you know has had experience with? Thank... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Hmmm. I am taking probiotics, and the burning sensation is in my esophagus actually. No stomach pain, no obvious gastro symptoms in the stomach region. I will go slow with the enzymes. I will probably also get some more Neem and add that back in for a cycle (then oil of oregano, etc - just rotate the anti-fungals around). -

Good to hear of the successes others are having. I had dropped 1 of 2 doses I had been taking of Nexium for several years now. I tried dropping the second dose and thought it was causing me problems, so added it back. But turned out the caprylic acid was the problem. So, last Friday I dropped the 2nd dose of Nexium (again). And guess what happened... -

The beet brownies are supposed to be good for constipation (I am thinking that is what you are referring to - but then again - I think those had some almond meal in them). I wanted to try them - but haven't found any fresh beets in the store. I have no idea when they are in season. I did find them once but they didn't look good. I don't know whether... -

I *love* a pumpkin type custard (like the Pumpkin Danish)! I have also used butternut squash as well for this. Interesting note about canned pumpkin. There was a woman on the pecanbread forum who wrote to Libby about their natural canned pumpkin (nothing added). She wanted to make sure no starches or anything else was added during the canning process... -

C is a BIG issue for me too. I have continued to take psyllium, even though it is illegal, because if I didn't take it I, like you, would never go. I do take magnesium, but right after going SCD I had to reduce my daily dosage down from 1200 mg a day to 500 mg a day. I figure I wasn't absorbing much of it before, but now I am - which means I can't tolerate... -

That is so aggravating (and ridiculous)! I don't think there is much you can say. People are just going to be stupid some times!!! Although - would be interesting to see what her response is to your suggestion for her to try rat poison and get back to you on it... -

Hi Eeyore, Do you know if it is necessary to use the 1/4 cup of brown sugar as listed in the wet ingredients? I was thinking that would make a sweet bread - which I don't want. -

Hi Rinne, Thanks for the book reference. I am actually taking a probiotic - and I make sure to take it well away from the anti-fungals I am taking. I didn't think about the anti-fungals killing the good as well in the body - but I did worry about taking the probiotic with the anti-fungal and the anti-fungal killing the probiotic! Right... -

Okay, so since going on SCD, I have been able to reduce my Nexium from 2 capsules a day to 1 capsule a day. I thought I would try, once again, to eliminate that last capsule. No go. Burning by the end of the day. My stomach also hurts, reminds me of when I tried the HCL. That would seem to indicate there is an over production of acid. Very confusing... -

Hi Jan and Ali, The mucus has been a continuous thing for the past 1 to 1-1/2 years. I am currently rotating anti-fungals. I took oil of oregano last month - but don't think it was wild oil of oregano. I am currently taking caprylic acid. I have no idea if it is candida or not. I have wondered if there was some kind of yeast or fungus causing... -

Does anyone here have any personal experience with homeopathy? Or do you know someone who has been successful using homeopathic remedies? I am just exploring this topic. Still having trouble with excessive mucus (throat clearing), so trying to figure out what else I might need to be looking at, since obviously diet isn't going to resolve the issue. -

Ali - YUM!! The No Bake Apple Pie recipe looks really good. I have never bought dates before - so guess I will need to figure out where to get those at. -

Thanks Pele and Sherry! Somehow I missed these posts - not sure how. The jars are sealed well, no movement. The sauce turned out okay. But - I thought that 3 onions for my 5 lbs of tomatoes seemed like alot - so only added 1-1/2 onions. Could have used all of the onion. Also, I would like to figure out how to get a more smokey flavor. Maybe some more... -

This topic has been busy lately!! I am doing pretty well with sticking with SCD legal foods. Things that I have that are off SCD are primarily confined to onion and garlic powders (which I sometimes use), bacon on occasion (I cannot afford SCD legal bacon, even if I found it - I do like Hormel Naturals, which have no nitrates/nitrites - but do have... -

Interesting Ali (waffle maker). I'll have to try that! What I would really like is a less sensitive pancake recipe. I like this Easy Sandwich Bread, but it is heavy in dairy and I do try to watch that. I have a pancake recipe from the No More Crohns website, but it is thin, and I have trouble cooking it enough to flip without overbrowning it (though... -

Hi GFLady! It will get better! The first days are the hardest. You had mentioned having done a Candida Diet and also yeast. If this is a problem for you then I would expect what you are having right now is die off from cutting out all of the foods that feed the bad bugs. Which is also where the cravings are coming in. But hang in there...because... -

Hey Ali! I have watched the demo on SCD bread on You Tube. Actually, that recipe is much like the one on No Crohn's (easy sandwich bread). I have made that one and like it okay. I have to watch with the recipes though - because I can't go overboard on the dairy. A little works, but not a lot. Since I like the Easy Sandwich Bread from No More Crohn...
