ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
DMarie replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Kristina - I don't know if this helps or not - but just in case - I'll share my current thoughts (which are subject to change on a day to day basis!). I have been mulling over my choices as to what direction to take. My husband is laid off effective December 31st - so needless to say - we are watching every penny like a hawk. I have wondered about... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Kristina - it is sooooo frustrating! I simply do not understand a doctor dismissing bloating like that. It is hard when you do not feel well - and trying to track down answers cost $$$$ and alot of time. I truly hope that you are able to find a good doctor in Tennessee - the first time around! -

Valda - I am pasting some info below about hypothyroidism (how to find a good doc - has link to Top Doc site), temperatures and also recommended labwork: HOW TO FIND A GOOD DOCTOR Bottom line, it can be maddening to find a GOOD DOC when it comes to good thyroid care. They simply don -

Chris - I believe that the Isocort can affect your blood work. If I am remembering correctly, you should wait at least 2 weeks after stoping this type of supplement before taking blood work. Stop the Thyroid Madness website would have a lot of information on this. -

Valda - I am not Shay - but I can tell you that previously one of the ways that hypothyroidism was diagnosed by taking the bodies basal body temperature. (Google Broda Barnes) This involves taking your basal temperature first thing in the morning, before you move around and get out of bed. I don't remember the temp you are looking for (I think if it is... -
ARCHIVED Candida Treatment For A Child?
DMarie replied to AMQmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am so glad I stumbled across these posts! Thank you Shay and Rachel (and others) for sharing what you have learned. It is sometimes very easy on these forums to feel very depressed about the possibly of healing. I have found myself thinking alot over the past several days about the body and wondering if it is really all that fragile such that you almost... -

What kind of testing is there for parasites? Would this be done through a regular doctor - or is this the type of testing that can only be done in alternative labs (and a regular doctor would laught at)? Just wondering... -

Kristina - I was in a specific type of therapy some years ago that was very helpful - and totally in keeping with Christianity (I consider myself to be Christian). At the time I had various "episodes" of self doubt and dredging up all things bad from the past to beat myself up with. Since going through this therapy - that ended. I don't remember the name... -

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
DMarie replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Okay - so new things for this weekend - I made an easy almond bread (looks like pancakes - but hey - it works to hold fillings!) and cranberry muffins. I will have to find the SCD recipe link and post the recipes. My husband really likes the cranberry muffins! I have some goat milk yogurt in the crockpot now. I did taste the goat milk - it was okay... -

Kristina - The reaction I had with the apples/coconut oil was that shortly after eating it, my face felt very warm/flushed. When I went to look in the mirror, my cheeks/face was quite pink! My co-worker verified that I did indeed look quite pink. I also used to live in Austin! That was some 12 or 13 years ago now - almost like another lifetime! It... -

Absolutely fascinating Shay! I looked up the thread on Neem - very interesting indeed! I actually spent some time looking up info on Ayurveda last weekend; I remember you had referenced it many pages ago (you said your dosha was Pitta if I remember right). It is interesting as well. It seems I was testing as being Vata-Kapha (I think if I remember... -

Shay - Neem sounds very interesting. Turns out this is sold at my local Sprouts. I have taken Triphala before (when doing a candida diet about 6 or 7 years ago) - but I don't remember much about it (as in why I took it or if it helped). Funny - but it was the candida diet that clued me in about the gluten. -

Sherry - Okay, so that was going to be one of my next posts - what supplements should I be looking at that would be beneficial to people with digestion issues? Also what are inflammatory markers? Is that a test that can be done via any lab - or is it from a specialty lab? I have an appt with my thryoid/adrenal doctor on Dec 23rd, so trying to gather together... -

I second what Shay said! I have to say that I would be in such a fog if I had your TSH (I feel best when mine is under 1). Sadly most doctors would look at those numbers and say you were fine. I hope that you are able to find a doctor who knows how to interpret these correctly. Many doctors just don't get it. -

Kristina - yes, my doctor regularly does lab work. I think it has been a few cycles since she has checked progresterone, etc. I am actually on compounded DHEA, due to it being low. Thank you for the website link! I will look into this. My doctor has been wanting me to try to reduce for awhile. The last time I tried, it just didn't go well. It has... -

I am not sure where is the best place to post this, but since I think all of my problems stem from digestion/food issues, I will post here. I have been taking a steroid for about 2 years now (adrenal fatigue, have been at a dose of 40 mg/day of cortef for a little over a year of that). I thought I had read that steroid use decreases stomach acid... -

Kristina, I am very sorry for what you are going through. I, too, wish I had the answer. Bloating has been a problem for me. The SCD diet has helped some - but having a daily bowel movement helps more (for that I have to use a combo of magnesium supplementation, prune juice and psyllium). I seem to need to do all 3; before adding the psyllium back in... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Chip Cookies
DMarie replied to MollyBeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have used Pamela's for chocolate chip cookies. Everyone liked them! I found that they tend to spread though, and using half butter, half shortening helped with that problem. That said, I also have a buckwheat based chocolate chip cookie that I just love (a little bit heavier of a cookie, not like toll house cookies everyone thinks about). It comes... -
ARCHIVED Hypoglycemic Or Low Glycemic Index Diet
DMarie replied to clnewberry1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was previously diagnosed as having hypoglycemia (I am thinking it was called reactive hypoglycemia, but as it has been several years, I can't quite recollect). I found that eliminating gluten helped some. The biggest help for me came when I found out I had low cortisol levels and found a doctor willing to work with me on that (which also brought my... -

Interesting about the Vitamin D. My doctor out of the blue ran a check on my Vitamin D levels earlier this year. Found out it was quite low. So I have been taking 1200 units a day since. I just went for lab work this morning; Vit D was one of the items being checked, so will be interested to see if it has improved any. What causes Vit D to be low? Are... -
Hmmm...I never thought about the military and celiac or gluten intolerance. My daughter is in college and is planning on going to medical school. She has seriously looked into trying to get an Air Force Scholarship for medical school (as in the Air Force would pay for medical school and she would serve x amount of years in the military). She has not...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
DMarie replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks for the explanation Ali! Makes sense... I did get some goat milk last night at the store. So I am going to try goat yogurt. I haven't tasted the milk yet though; just seems odd drinking goat milk. Sherry, I'll be interested to know how the olive oil works. I finally got some plain psyllium. I believe that mucilagenous (sp?) supplements... -

What is the difference or significance of having gas immediately after eating (or before you are even finished eating) versus little bits later after eating (such as 1-1/2 to 2 hours later). It is only bad if it is foul smelling right after eating or during? Also, I have been eating cooked apples with no problems. However, I haven't had cooked fruit...
