  1. I am only diagnosed by blood test and felt I didn't need the scope. I am much better off gluten-free, even if there was a chance I didn't have celiac disease. But I still want the scope without the gluten challenge just to make sure my insides are OK. I have other problems which could be acid reflux or another type of stomach issue. What kind of neurological...
  2. That was a nice post, kvogt. I don't think you came off sounding critical. Sometimes it is better to get a differing perspective and what you have shown me is that all of this pettiness is pointless. We are all here to help others. Thank you for that:)
  3. I feel terrible for you! I know how you feel-I, too, tell people I'm fine b/c how many times can I say I'm sick without them thinking I'm making it up or just a wimp? Only the people that really matter will know how you feel. My husband is so good with that...my parents and siblings, on the other hand, not so great. Can you stay in bed and rest or do...
  4. LOL they are getting so much crap for that woman's finger case and it wasn't even real!!! Wasn't there a case, though, recently with a man who really did find a part of a finger and it was legitimate?
  5. Ok, this is troubling me b/c I make a living off of my voice as a choir teacher/opera singer. Since going gluten-free, my voice has been raspy and just about gone. Can barely make a sound singing and my speaking voice sounds low like a guy or a smoker. Embarrassing!!! Today a lady who meant well said it sounded like I'd been screaming at a basketball game...
  6. I am about 5 foot 1. I have always been a very small person but always got my period. I will have to ask my dr. about this; I'm seeing a few of them this week. I'm not sure why it could be happening.... I was about to post about my voice; I don't know if it's gluten related or not. I'll put that in a separate spot, though.
  7. When my tummy hurts I eat very plain things, like gluten-free pasta with just the teeniest bit of butter, or a plain waffle with nothing on it. Or, a plain piece of chicken. Stick to bland stuff. If it's really, really bad I would stick to plain rice, bananas, apple sauce, gluten-free of course, and things like that. We feel your pain! I hope you're better...
  8. You poor thing! I hope you are doing better now. I have had a lot of problems with anxiety and some days it feels like you can't even control your reactions to things. Hang in there!! Come here when you need us!
  9. I went on the pill 10 years ago (I'm 28), after a teenage life from heck. I had heavy awful periods. Going on the pill helped a lot; still heavy and bad cramps but not debilitating. Since going gluten-free 4 months ago I've not had ANY period twice, not in a row. I am SO confused. I did lose 10 lbs. right after going gluten-free but I've hit a plaeau and...
  10. Is there any risk of cross contamination with the Frosty? Or is the machine clean? Clean, meaning gluten-free, of course! lol Pardon the dumb question, I assume if everyone is eating them they must be safe b/c you guys are the gold standard for finding out if it's gluten-free in my opinion:)
  11. Could it possibly be the sugar or another ingredient that is bothering you? Sometimes gluten-free things upset my tummy b/c of sugar. I don't know, though, if you drink those products regularly. In any case, I hope you feel better!
  12. Well, maybe I shouldn't take the bait, but here goes: what adults are you referring to that need to learn from teenagers? And if their behavior is questionable, then why would you engage in the same type of behavior? Do you realize that you are "baiting" us and continuing the argument rather than just ending it? I should just let it go but you know what?...
  13. If someone writes a post about cheating I have never seen a bad response. I've seen people trying to HELP that person and offer encouragement, which I think is wonderful and NECESSARY. We are, after all, here to support each other! But a few of the new posters are NOT like the other newbies. They are, in some ways; learning about the disease, wondering how...
  14. Everyone just needs to calm down in my opinion. Many times people with a dry sense of humor come off strangely to people who don't know them. On the internet it's 10 times worse b/c you aren't meeting the person face to face to get a feel for their character. In that case, sometimes someone who knows they have such a sense of humor needs to be careful...
  15. Darby, did you have your test yet? I thought you said Thursday? If so, how was it? How are you feeling?
  16. Some people seem to be missing Jessica's point. It is not about cheating or not cheating, it is about RESPECT. Some of these newbies are coming to our board and intentionally or unintentionally disrespecting and mocking our way of life/problems. I could care less if they cheat. I don't have to live in their body. To each his own. But don't come trolling...
  17. Wow, I don't post for a couple of days and all heck breaks loose here! Magnus and mmm...gluten you just have to realize a few things which I'm sure by now you have: some of the people here have been so sick for so long that so hear you trivialize their disease is troubling. That's all there is to it. If you want to be in denial over your celiac disease;...
  18. Sorry to hear you are not well! I'm not, either! I do OK with Pamela's cookies; I've never had a reaction. I eat them almost every day as my main form of dessert. Maybe you are extremely sensitive to the soy; that definitely could be.
  19. In your opinions do you feel it is safe to say that all butters and sour creams are gluten-free? I just wonder b/c if I order a baked potato from a restaurant sometimes even the servers don't know which brand they use b/c they get it in bulk. What do you think?
  20. I personally cannot tolerate distilled vinegar. I tried A1 Steaksause which is gluten free but has distilled vinegar. I had a terrible reaction, and I know others on this board have, too. I personally stay AWAY from distilled vinegar.
  21. I don't trust them to properly clean the slicer, so I buy Sara Lee PRE packaged swiss cheese and turkey. It's WONDERFUL and it's all prepackaged and gluten-free. I've had no problems with it whatsoever. I stay away from the deli b/c of the slicer issues. I've worked in delis before; it's almost impossible to get it totally clean unless the employee is just...
  22. Before you undergo testing like a colonoscopy or endoscopy, do the simplest thing: get the blood work done. It is SO easy. Then, if you have a positive in the blood, it would make more sense. From what I've seen, symptoms of celiac disease are ALL over the board b/c of the many other related conditions it brings. So I don't think any symptoms are abnormal...
  23. Yes, this is my home for posting, too. The other one looks pretty cool when you need to study up on something specific, but I like this one best. Will be a member for life!
  24. Your intestines are supposed to heal after being gluten-free for awhile, so getting another biopsy and having it look better than the last is NOT an indication that you don't have celiac disease. If you had positive bloodwork and an upper endoscopy and they both came out positive, you should probably work on accepting the fact that you have this disease....
  25. I personally stay away from most salsas because most of them contain vinegar. I used Green Mountain Gringo or Amy's. I don't want to take my chances with vinegar. I think Amy's uses apple cider vinegar, which works for us.
