We are staying at the Hyatt Regency. I think it's on 42nd St. It's right near Broadway theatres. The thing is, we cannot simply get on the subway and go somewhere. We are there to perform at Carnegie Hall and will be on a VERY strict time schedule with rehearsals, etc. There won't be time to just go where we please, unfortunately. Bottom line is, I will...

ARCHIVED Joint Pain
jknnej replied to I'm more celiac than you's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ok, so what on earth is left to eat if you cut out gluten, casein, soy, eggs??? Veggies and meat? I could NOT live on only that. I'd rather just get sick. -
The problem is, I can't go to any of those places unless they're within walking distance ( a few blocks) from our hotel. We have NO transportation other than our feet. So, I doubt those places will be within reach. I can't get in a cab with 15 high school students! Any ideas on safest restaurant food?

My tongue was bleeding in spots for awhile. dentist said everything looked fine, as did doc. So why was it bleeding? It was in different places. Happened every two or three days when I brushed my teeth-didn't brush my tongue.

Since going off gluten two weeks ago, I have developed a tremor in my hands, just slight. Told my doc she has no clue whatsoever. Tell me some symptoms of fibromyalgia because I have been having: lightheadedness, tremors, tender spots on my body that feel bruised (all over) but aren't, vision changes, memory/confusion problems. It's not low blood sugar...

OK I am paranoid about eating out because how can you make sure your food is not cross contaminated? Can your chicken be cooked on the same grill as gluten? I don't think so, so how do you order your meat? Also, can you please tell me the absolute safest restaurant food? Would it be salad if you bring your own dressing? I'm freaking out b/c I have a trip...

What is the SC diet? And if you go off sugar, does that mean you can't have fruit? Don't we need fruit? I would love to go off sugar but I'm not sure how..it's in almost everything. Add that to gluten-free diet and what do you eat? Meat, veggies, that's it? Beans, maybe. What else? I know dairy isn't great for you and I don't eat much dairy, anyway, although...

ARCHIVED Still Eating Wheat
jknnej replied to jknnej's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
the only reason I am doubting the blood work is because only one test came back positive out of the three and my doctor told me that means only a 50% chance of celiac disease. He said if all 3 came back it would be, like, 97%. I've only been gluten-free for two weeks and before that I ate wheat all the time so I'm pretty sure my insides would still be messed... -
ARCHIVED What Is Casein?
jknnej posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know it's something to do with dairy. Is that it? Or is it in other foods as well? -

ARCHIVED Still Eating Wheat
jknnej posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hi guys, I decided, since I can't get tested (upper endoscopy)until March due to my busy work schedule, I'm going to eat a small amount of wheat per day (like one graham cracker)so I don't become too sensitive. after all, my blood test was positive but only one of the three panels was positive. I do think i have celiac disease, though, since my tummy has... -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain
jknnej replied to I'm more celiac than you's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OK this will sound weird but since going gluten-free two weeks ago my tummy feels great but my head is foggy, tremors in hands, light headedness, joint pain. Why are all of these symptoms coming when I eliminate gluten? So confused...any ideas? By the way, I also have an abundance of yeast...what do you eat on a yeast free diet? I'm assuming no sugar/no... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
jknnej replied to kellenor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is weird but can you explain why I now have this "fogginess" AFTER changing my diet to gluten free? I never had it before when I was eating wheat and getting tummy aches. I am afraid-why would I have it now that I've gone gluten-free? any ideas? -
I would love to know, too! I live in Phoenix. Where do you live, dizzy? We should start a support group!!!

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Get This When Going Out To Eat?
jknnej replied to 3kbab's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I went skiing twice in Flagstaff in the past month. Both times, the chef at the lunch cafe was VERY rude to me when I asked for a burger with no seasoning. He said he couldn't do it and that even if he could it would take 20 minutes. He walked away and this other chef who was below him said he would have it for me in 7 minutes. The first time I asked for... -
ARCHIVED Velveeta Shells & Cheese-minus Shells
jknnej posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK I LOVE Velveeta shells and cheese. Of course I can buy rice pasta and just use the sauce. I've heard it was gluten-free but am confused cause it says "whey protein." Can you more experienced people read these and tell me if you know if this is gluten-free? I will call if no one knows. Thanks, Jenn Forgot: this is a Kraft productbut it says nothing... -
Hi all, Question: I am the type that when I eat wheat I don't get as violently ill as other people here. Once in a while I will and I definitely get bad stomach aches, sometimes diarrhea, but I don't vomit or anything like that. So, my question is: the longer you stay on the gluten free diet, do your symptoms get worse if you ingest wheat? If I stay on...

Kayjay, Sorry to hear you are so sick. Could you try those ice pops that are supposed to help for morning sickness? I don't know if they are gluten-free or not. Maybe Pedialyte will help, too, if its gluten-free. I am a new Celiac so I haven't checked yet, but that always helps me when I'm nauseated or have diarrhea. I will keep you in my prayers if you...

ARCHIVED Vinegar Clarification Please...
jknnej replied to wifeofceliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Had The Colonoscopy Yesterday
jknnej replied to Carriefaith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow, sorry to hear about all those symptoms. I was out like a light during my coloscopy and felt nothing after-but my doc did say to call if I experienced those symptoms or go to the hospital if I couldn't contact him. Mine was only 2 weeks ago and I have felt weird pains in my intestines, I think from all the biospies. -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream Question?
jknnej replied to mela14's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi guys, Mela, sorry to hear you are feeling so ill. I know what it's like. Can I ask you: where do you go to get tested for food allergies? What do you ask your doctor for, specifically? I'm new at this and need to get tested for additional allergies..... Jenn -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Celiac
jknnej replied to rmmadden's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Bob, We all seem to have those symptoms-even after going gluten-free, I started getting light headed and shaky like one of the other posters. I now eat on the hour, every hour and it seems to help a bit. For anyone else out there: does this "mental fogginess" ever go away? -

ARCHIVED Phoenix Recommendations?
jknnej replied to MichelleC's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I live in Phoenix....have been recently diagnosed so I'm no expert yet, but the PF Chang's in Scottsdale has a manager with Celiac Disease. There's also Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba's Italian Grill-several of these, actually, all over Phoenix: Ahwatukee, Chandler, Scottdale, Avondale. There are also plenty of Trader Joe's/Sprouts/AJ's/Wild Oats stores... -
Since going gluten-free, I have had extremely vivid dreams that aren't always nightmares, but keep me feeling tired throughout the day due to lack of restful sleep. I also read in "Digestive Health and Nutrition" magazine, or some similar titile that I can't remember, that dreams such as these are common in people who suffer from bowel disorders. Hmmmm....
