Mizzo's Achievements

  1. Most people know they are spending their money on the receiving organization more so than the item. So , yes I would buy them if it was a charity I was supporting.

I would start your signage with that in mind. ie: " Support our great cause and buy these delicious homemade cupcakes made Allergen free with extra LOVE "

  2. I made this fpr a bbq 2 weeks ago Black bean salad (don't like black bean use pink or cannelloni...)

1 or 2 cans black beans rinsed well

1/4 to 1/2 green and red bell pepper finely diced

1/3 to 1/2 onion finely diced

1box frozen corn rinse in warm water till defrosted (do not cook)

1/4 to 1/2 cup wishbone italian dressing

    toss well

Add some chicken of your own you brought and this is a filling healthy meal, and make a large batch for all to enjoy.

    easy, travels well and inexpensive

  3. I had never purchased it before, wanted to try it bc everyone raves about it. I didn't know they had both varieties. You'd think after 5 years I'd be a little bit smarter and read the stinkin package!

Last week I gave my dd Bell and Evans chicken tenders (not gluten-free) the darn boxes are sooo similar. Thankfully my husband caught it before I gave her seconds.

I think sometimes I just get relaxed and am not shopping consciously, like driving. :)

  4. I've recently gone gluten-free and am seeing how fast the $$ will add up with buying bread. I really like Udi's bread. But between my son and I a loaf doesn't last too long! Has anyone found a mix or recipe that tastes like Udi's frozen breads? Is it more economical to buy the frozen bread or invest in a bread maker and flours/mixes?

In the meantime shop around for the bread . I found a market that specializes in herbal medicine and natural foods that sells all Udi's including the hot dog and hamburg rolls and they have sales about every 2 months. Last month it was $4.25 a loaf. Try looking up all your local markets and call them.

  5. WOW a sleepover camp , I can't even fathom that right now.

I would send in a pot , a pan and cookie sheet labeled for gluten-free use only that way you have some assurance of limited cross contamination. If you are sending in pasta send in a colander also.

I use Annies gluten-free mac and cheese, target sells it the cheapest around me.

Also Rice is easy and hard to contaminate as is baked potatoes or Ore-Ida French fries .

Will they let you send in individual frozen servings of pre-marinaded meat that they just have to cook (note to cook everything in foil to be safe) I do this for camping and it works great

If I think of anything else I will post

OOPs looks like Poppi covered most things. I agree with the flowers and brownies and praise, If someone did that for me I would remember it every time I saw their child.

  6. @ Noomers -- where do you live? We're in Nebraska -- can't seem to find anything anywhere near here..... That would be awesome!

@ Mizzo -- Yes, they'll be at a sleepover camp for the week.

@ Poppi & Mizzo -- Thank you for the ideas!!! I emailed the director of the camp, & she said there's freezer & frig. space we can use & the cook will prepare everything we bring for the kids!! Yeah! They are being SO helpful! Do either of you have a good mac n cheese recipe you like? That sounds yummy! I'm thinking I will make big batches of things like you suggested, Poppi, & send personal meal sizes in aluminum mini loaf pans.

Thank you all again for your help & support!!!!

  7. The getting of the diagnosis is the hard part. We also had 2 years of pedi appt.'s because we were being treated as a diet issue. My DD is overweight and always has been in the 90th percentile with high BMI. So we were instructed to put her on low carb/high fiber and whole grains, more veggies diet ( it took me a year to get her to eat green beans without the pschyed=out vomiting) . When her stomach pains got to be near daily I demanded a GI. From there it was 2 Dr. visits, bloodwork and appt's in 3 different hospitals in a month.

Good news, Once diagnosed you start eating right and healing. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

BTW you do the best you can , sane may not be appropriate. I went a little crazy before finally saying to the DR's your missing something get me a specialist.

    Good luck!
