  1. About ten years ago I developed an ache and dull pressure in the right side of my abdomen after taking probiotics for a couple of weeks. It was accompanied by cholestasis-clay colored stools. I lived with it and about six years ago finally got a CT scan, which only showed mild gallbladder inflammation. About four years ago I went on the Specific Carbohydrate...
  2. Sounds like me. I don't have full blown Celiacs, but gluten and casein intolerance, which has resulted in leaky gut syndrome and chemical sensitivity. All I know is that it would be a good idea to avoid all grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes for a while and give your intestines a chance to heal. This is hard for me because I'm sensitive to so many things...
  3. Thanks. That was an interesting article. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that I will be able stabilize my gut until the benzo withdrawal has run its course. I can't tolerate any supplements at all. The reaction I have to supplements, coconut oil, and other foods is actually an increase in benzo withdrawal symptoms(this is actually typical of benzo withdrawal...
  4. I think I will definitely try buckwheat then. There aren't enough foods I can tolerate in order to make recipes, but I'll try to find some buckwheat that I can eat as a breakfast cereal.
  5. I meant white bread made from wheat. I was looking for wild rice the other day but couldn't find any that wasn't mixed with another type of rice. I'll have to try that again along with buckwheat.
  6. I'm wondering how other people with leaky gut handle millet. I don't digest grains very well in general, but millet is actually a seed, so I was thinking about trying it. The weird thing is that I'm gluten intolerant, but I can actually handle bread easier than other grains. Rice and quinoa destroy my stomach. I think my main gluten symptoms are depression...
  7. The biggest problem I have with the GAPS diet is that my system is very sensitivie to bone stock and vegetables. I am currently going through protracted benzodiazepine withdrawal and it has caused a lot of problems in my nervous system and digestive system. It seems that foods with the highest nutrient levels give me the most problems. Apparently my body...
  8. I'll start with my question about exotic grains. I can't handle quinoa, white rice, or brown rice. They all cause stomach and other sensitivity reactions. I want to try amaranth and buckwheat, but are these any easier on the gut than the afore mentioned three? Secondly, lately I have been becoming intolerant to anything I eat for more than a couple...
  9. What are you eating on the paleo diet? What paleo foods have you eliminated?
  10. What is it about eating meat that you are against? And what are you eating currently that is causing problems? If you're eating grains and legumes you should stop. This includes peanuts and peas. You can try adding these things back later, but remember that they are high in lectins, which are irritating to the intestines. I think you will find it difficult...
  11. Don't consume soy if you're trying to heal leaky gut, even if probiotics help you tolerate it. There are too many gut irritants in it. If you tolerate the protein there is still the lectins that can be problematic. It's best just to avoid it, at least until you get better.
  12. It's weird, but sometimes I can handle soy and sometimes I can't. I've actually decided to stop eating all together, though. I also get bad headaches, dizziness, and general weakness from soy, but no digestive problems. I think soy lecithin is used as an extender. I was watching something on television about all of the different uses for soy. It was...
  13. It sounds like your daughter is carb addicted. The things you mentioned that she prefers to eat are nothing but simple carbs with little to offer. Simple carbs are addicting because they not only trigger the brains reward center, but also only provide energy in short bursts. The idea that you need carbs is totally false. They will also do nothing to aid...

    ARCHIVED Tomatoes?

I do have leaky gut. I just wasn't sure if tomatoes could be doing any harm even if they aren't producing symptoms. Some people make it sound as though you absolutely have to avoid nightshades.
  15. Right now plain tomato juice is about the only carb source I seem to do okay with. I hear a lot about nightshades being bad for you while healing leaky gut/celiac damage. How do you know if tomatoes and other nightshades are causing a problem? I haven't really noticed any issues with tomato juice, and I don't do well with other fruits. I need to have...
  16. All meat, yes. Fish actually seems to do it worse than anything else.
  17. I thought this may be an issue with amines, but even meat that is low in amines is causing a problem. Other food that is high in amines doesn't do this. I thought maybe it was free glutamate, but other food high in free glutamate doesn't do this. Any ideas?
  18. Sometimes I get a pain and swelling in my right foot after eating certain things. It always goes from the top of my ankle joint to the top of my foot. Sometimes it hurts so bad that it wakes me up at night. There have been times when just the sheets touching it was excrutiating. It isn't happening is much since I stopped eating wheat and I'm in the process...
  19. I was thinking about trying goat milk to get some more calories in my diet and also to have an easy to digest protein. I have had occasional problems with cow milk lactose(I'm also casein sensitive) in the past but I understand that alot of lactose intolerant people handle goat milk pretty well. I'm wondering, however, if the lactose in goat milk will delay...
  20. There isn't really anything the doctor can do about it. I just have to ride it out. The withdrawal has made already existing digestive problems worse, and I would like to clear them up. My digestive problems are really effecting me mentally and physically.
  21. I attempted the GAPS diet, but I get the same weird reaction to the bone broth. It's like anything will a high level of nutrients sends my brain into a tailspin. It's true that you can do these diets without eggs or dairy, but that leaves you with very few recipes. I should also mention that I've been dealing with protracted benzodiazepine withdrawal...
  22. Actually, the reaction I get to fruit and vegetables is dizziness, confusion, and disorientation. All fruit and vegetables do it. The worst are broccoli, carrots, bananas, and brussel sprouts. I actually do better with canned vegetables than cooked frozen or fresh ones. I have the same reaction to oils, nuts(excluding processed peanut butter), nut milk...
  23. I haven't been on here in a long time, but I've decided to try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet again. I didn't really do it right the first time as I was only eating meat and the allowable beans, but this time I want to do it the right way and hopefully actually get somewhere this time. What I'm unclear about, however, is the use of dairy and eggs. I did...
  24. I found a comprehensive list of amine sensitivity symptoms, incase you all haven't seen it: Open Original Shared Link This explains a lot, especially why l-glutamine supplements make me feel detatched from the world for several hours.
  25. Thanks for all the replies. I think the amines theory makes the most since. As for my gallbladder, I've had several ultrasounds and they all come back negative. One showed slight inflammation from an unknown origin. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my leaky gut and food sensitivities.
