  1. I've taught a lot of first year students, so I may know your friend. I like reading all kinds of things, though my favorite books for pleasure are mysteries or historical fiction. I like Stephen King, Jodi Poucault, Patricia Cornwell, and historical fiction set in the Elizabethan era. I read so much for teaching that when I read for pleasure I like to...
  2. Hi, Kaiti--I know what you mean. I don't know a single person with Celiac disease, and that's why I love this board--it'd be great to talk to someone more regularly who has celiac disease. Anyhoo, I'm on the east coast. I live in Blacksburg, VA, but my parents live in northern VA, and I'm up there once a month or so. I'll be 26 Sept. 11, and I teach...
  3. I have only used Nice and Easy since going gluten-free, and the ingredients look to be gluten-free, and I have never had a problem with it--I'm also super sensitive to gluten and react if wheat touches my skin. I was also told on a different forum that we shouldn't really have to worry about hairdye since it is all rinsed out--hopefully that is true...
  4. So Proactive is gluten-free? I contacted them about it (about 3-4 months ago), and they said they couldn't guarantee it (but it may have been a CYA statement). Thanks for all the tips, and thanks for the pointer on the Total Control. I hate having acne, and if it doesn't get better, I will head to the dermatologist, so thanks, Donna, for the heads...
  5. Thanks for your help! I looked on Clearasil's website and found the vanishing cream, but I can't find the Total Control products, only the original blue products and the new Ultra products. Are the Total Control products a face wash?
  6. *Sigh* I've developed some semi-serious acne again, and my skin hasn't been this bad since going gluten-free. Currently, I use Clearsil Daily Face wash and Neutrogena's Rapid Clear acne gel, which are both gluten-free. Obviously, neither one are doing that much to help. Anyone use an acne wash/cream/medication that works well and is gluten-free? Thanks...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

About the anxiety thing....I have some pretty severe anxiety issues and also have struggled with depression. Being diagnosed with Celiac kicked it into high gear again, compounded with me still being sick after being gluten-free for six months, so I empathize with you in that aspect. I am currently seeing a counselor and am beginning to feel better to some...
  8. Thanks for all of your help! I'll check the websites that you all mentioned. Unfortunately, my pharmacist is not very helpful about gluten free drugs--he kept telling me to contact the company, when I knew that there was more he should have been able to do. (I go to Rite-Aid, so maybe I'll switch to another pharmacy).
  9. Hi, everyone--I think I'm developing a kidney infection, and this will be my first antibiotic since going gluten-free. Before I see the doctor so I can have some recommendations, does anyone know an antibiotic that is definitely gluten-free? (and hopefully not too harsh on the digestive system, either?)? Thanks for any help!
  10. Hi, everyone--I'm looking to switch my current multivitamin (GNC's Women's Ultra Mega) to one that is less potent. Thus, does anyone have any recommendations for a good gluten-free vitamin that is also hopefully soy free and easy on the stomach? Thanks for any suggestions!
  11. According to the people on the Delphi board, who have spoken to representatives at Wendy's, they haven't changed their Frosty recipe in 30 years....so that means they have *always* had gluten--nice of them, huh? They say that it is a malt CC issue...but malt is always made with barley, right? Argh! So frustrating--and they won't come out and say that...
  12. Yes, my symptoms got a lot worse after being glutened when I went gluten-free. That's why it's *so* important to stay gluten-free (although with this illness, slip ups are bound to occur with CC and such). Fast food restaurants are probably the worst for cross contamination issues. I've been gluten-free for six months, and I avoid eating out, as my intestines...
  13. Something else to consider--I never reacted to wheat in products that I didn't ingest (shampoo, lotion, etc.). However, now that I've been gluten-free for six months, if anything with gluten gets on me, I develop a little red itchy rash--it's not DH, but a rash nonetheless. Just something I wanted to address, so that's why I always use gluten-free products...
  14. I wanted to pass this info along: I'm also a member of the Delphi forum board, and several members noticed that Frosty's are no longer on Wendy's gluten-free list. After a few of them called, Wendy's is now saying that their Frosty's are NOT gluten-free because there is apparently malt in them and/or suspicious flavorings. *Sigh* And I loved my Frosty...
  15. Great, Kaiti, thanks for letting me know--now I can order their lipstick, too, as I love their other products.
  16. Does anyone know if Bare Escentuals lipstick is gluten free? It has vitamin E in it, which I know can sometimes be derived from a non-gluten-free source, so I just wanted to make sure. I emailed them about it, but they didn't write me back. Also, I see that some of their products (moisturizers, from the ingredients I saw) did have some form of wheat...
  17. Thanks, Mariann, good to know. I don't know if other baking sodas are gluten-free, but I do know that there are some baking powders that are not--though most are. Kroger is great about verifying products, so I would just give them a ring, though more than likely, it is gluten-free.
  18. I'm making my first gluten-free pound cake from scratch, and my recipe calls for baking soda--is Arm and Hammer baking soda gluten-free? I'm assuming it is based on the ingredients, but I just want to be extra careful. Thanks!
  19. I know there are several forms of Immodium (tablets, instantly dissolving tablets, liquid, etc.), so are all forms of Immodium gluten-free? I take Pepto Bismol now, as I know their liquid is gluten-free, but Immodium works better for me, so if anyone knows which forms are gluten-free, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
  20. I've been gluten-free for six months, and after a period of a few months where I felt really good, I have now been sick for quite awhile (and I am very strictly gluten-free). I've had my blood tested, and my celiac panel is now normal with my adsorption also being normal now, yet I have had the big "D" for three months straight. I'm thinking, then, that...

    ARCHIVED Maggiano's

I got so excited after I saw your post, Jenvan, that I contacted my semi-local Maggiano's (in Tysons Corner, VA), and they said that all Maggiano's now stock gluten-free pasta and to just ask my server about it. This was one of my favorite restaurants before going gluten-free--how exciting!
  22. Thank you SO much for the tips! Looking forward to trying them all--thanks again!
  23. I went off the pill about six months ago after being on it for four years or so. I didn't have any side effects at all, other than my period becoming heavier, which is normal. It's a decision I don't regret at all, as I was a bit nauseous on the pill and hated taking it every day.
  24. I'm trying to get most processed foods out of my diet, as I am still feeling awful 6 months into the gluten-free diet, and I am completely gluten-free, both related to foods and products I use. So, as one of my goals, I'm trying to start cooking with honey instead of sugar. First, there's no way that there could be gluten in pure honey, right? Second,...
  25. I've had their chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins, carrot cake, blondies, and poundcake. Everything is good, but I will warn you that it is quite expensive--I only stock up every few months, and then I only buy a few things (for example, the carrot cake is $7, and it's only a small loaf size). I've found that I can cook on my own more cheaply by...
