If you have Pamela's Baking Mix at a store near you, I use her mix (the recipe for the muffins is on the bag). You can make any kind of muffins with that recipe, and they are very good--to me, they taste as good as non-gluten-free muffins. I've also ordered blueberry muffins from Kinnikinnick that are pretty good if you'd rather not cook.

ARCHIVED Kroger Brand Fruit Snacks
jmengert replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, Kasey's Mom, for posting what Kroger said! It's great to have another snack option, especially for traveling. -
I second everything Tarnalberry said, and I've also brought Lays' Stax potato chips, macaroni salad (made with gluten-free pasta, of course), gluten-free chocolate chip cookies, because they travel quite well and it's nice to have a dessert option, and egg salad sandwiches--all stuff that packs nicely in a cooler.

ARCHIVED Butter
jmengert replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks everyone for your input! I'm feeling very ill again, as ill as I was when first diagnosed, so I'm being very cautious and trying to eat as little preservatives and such until I can figure out what's going on, so thanks again for the help! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Dog Food?
jmengert replied to KaitiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Congrats, Kaiti! I just got a dog a few weeks ago myself (my first one). I use Nutro, a brand that PetSmart sells. It is gluten-free according to the ingredients, but there may be hidden things in there. As far as dog food (or treats) goes that may have gluten, I am very cautious about him licking me in the face at all--one time he got me accidentally... -
Hi, everyone--I've been quite ill again lately, causing me to be ultra paranoid about every food I eat. Is there any chance that butter (with ingredients of cream, salt and annatto, for color) contains gluten? This specific butter is from Kroger, as I'm trying to switch to butter instead of margarine since it has less additives and such. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Ladies-what's Your Face Lotion?
jmengert replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I, too, used to use Estee Lauder products before going gluten-free--I love her stuff, but most of it is not gluten-free, unfortunately. I have very dry skin that is acne prone (a very odd combination), and I now use Neutrogena products. I use the oil-free moisturizer in the a.m. (it has SPF 15) and the Visibly Even moisturizer in the p.m. There is a list... -
ARCHIVED Hair Spray
jmengert replied to 11111's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Garnier Fructis brand for my shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, and styling products. They are fruit based, and they have confirmed their products to be gluten-free (except for their hairdyes, which they basically said to read the labels). But their products are great and smell great, too! -
ARCHIVED Support Group In Va
jmengert replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Great--I'm going to my gastroenterologist today in Christiansburg, so I'll ask him about the support group at Montgomery Regional and let you all know what I find out. -

I'm in Blacksburg, so if you guys find one in this area, I would love to know when and where they meet. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Malt-o-meal Question/confusion
jmengert posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, everyone--I bought some Malt-O-Meal cocoa bites right before they added the wheat to them--or so I think. There is no wheat listed on the label, but I've never eaten them before. I worry a lot about CC issues, so before they added the wheat (why did they have to do that?!?!), were the cocoa bites on dedicated lines? Hopefully I can enjoy this bag and... -
I, too, like something sweet in the morning, and if you don't mind ordering off the internet (or if you can find it in local stores--I personally haven't seen any stores near me carry Kinnikinnick) Kinnikinnick makes donuts that I really like--they are quite heavy--almost cakelike--but they are great and quick in the morning. They also make muffins, too...

I still have nausea and cramping and am gluten-free and very careful. I also have IBS, which I was diagnosed with 5 years ago, well before being diagnosed with celiac disease, and I recommend going on an anti-spasmodic drug to see if that helps. I'm on hyoscyamine (generic for levbid, levsin, etc.), have been for 5 years, and that helps somewhat. I also...

I'm paranoid about eating out, but I need some lunch options at work for when I'm super busy. I've eaten McDonalds' apple dippers because they are prepackaged--their salads are listed as gluten-free on their website, but does anyone know if they are prepackaged? I worry about CC issues with fast food places especially. Thanks if anyone knows this!

ARCHIVED "'cause Your" Special Chocolate Chip Cookies
jmengert replied to Niteyx13's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I LOVE their poundcake and haven't tried their chocolate chip cookies but will now Thanks for the tip! -
Are Method soaps the ones sold at Target in bright colors and weird shaped bottles? I always wanted to try them but wasn't sure if they were gluten-free....

ARCHIVED Probiotics
jmengert replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, Kaiti--I'll give the probiotics a try and go from there--I've been taking a vitamin for years (now I take one that's even better and gluten-free), so if the probiotics don't help, I may try enzymes, too. Thanks again--it's nice to know that someone is taking this exact brand! -
I'm still having the big "d" issues, but I am almost positive it's not gluten related, as I have very specific symptoms when I'm accidentally glutened beyond the big "d." That being said, several of you on the board have mentioned using probiotics. I'm always nervous taking any new form of medication into my body because I'm so super sensitive to anything...

ARCHIVED Still Sick--any Ideas Why?
jmengert replied to jmengert's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have an order for more blood tests, so I'm going to have that done tomorrow (though I highly doubt I'm still getting gluten because I'm so paranoid about it). I was okay with taking awhile to feel better, but I think it's odd to get better and then rebound as horribly as I have. I'm also wondering, then, if it's a food allergy that's popped up, so I'm... -
I'm at my wits' end now, so I'm hoping that someone is able to shed some light onto my situation--I'm calling the GI tomorrow, but I always have to wait nearly 3-4 weeks to see him, and I always feel like I get better information here anyway I was diagnosed via blood tests in Nov., with my results high on all levels. I left town for a month, so I wasn...

ARCHIVED Ice Cream
jmengert replied to casnco's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
hthorvald--I'm also lactose intolerant, and Breyer's lactose free vanilla is wonderful. I haven't eaten it since going gluten-free, but Breyer's will not hide any gluten, and from what I've been told, it looks to be gluten-free--another option besides popsicles, which do get tiresome! -
ARCHIVED Hair Products
jmengert replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the input! I've been going to the same place for several years now, so I think I'll tell her about my situation (I, too, now get itchy whenever wheat touches me--funny how that happens after going gluten-free, as it never used to happen to me before), and either bring my own shampoo and stuff or read all the ingredients. Thanks again! -
ARCHIVED Hair Products
jmengert posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been resisting having my hair cut and dyed since going gluten-free because of the following issue, but now I've got to get it done. For those of you who use gluten-free shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, etc., what do you do when you get your hair cut and/or dyed? Do you ask to see the ingredients in their products? Or does one day of possibly having... -
ARCHIVED Mission Corn Tortillas Upc
jmengert replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll let you know, Richard. You would think that if they carry all the other types, the could carry the corn ones, so if I have any luck, I'll let you know what Kroger they're at (the one on Main St. or University City Blvd.) Let's keep our fingers crossed! -
ARCHIVED Mission Corn Tortillas Upc
jmengert replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, everyone, for your help! I sent the UPC to them, so hopefully some good will come of it--I'm missing my enchiladas, quesadillas, tacos, etc. And, you're right, burdee--I don't have the package, so how I would I have the UPC? Very frustrating! That's why I'm so grateful for all of you! Thanks again!
