  1. Hi Mago, It is definitely possible to have a gluten sensitivity (and be very sensitive at that), but not Celiac. I was negative for Celiac but diagnosed with gluten sensitivity three years ago (after over a year of being very ill) and am very sensitive to cross-contamination. There is still a lot of research to be done on gluten sensitivity and how it...
  2. Hi again, glad it was encouraging. I'm sorry things are so bad in Colombia, and hope you will find a better situation in Spain or wherever you choose to go!
  3. Hi LivesIntheSun, what a nightmare in Colombia! It's great that you have the freedom to go somewhere more Celiac-friendly. I don't have any direct experience with being gluten free in Spain, but do know of this website, which might be a good start: Open Original Shared Link I have also heard murmurs that gluten-free living is fairly good in Spain...
  4. Orgran's Rice Crumbs are another good option.
  5. Just to clarify, I meant going just to socialize, not to eat any food at the party. Like you, brendygirl, I always eat beforehand and just enjoy the company. It's taking in any flour that's hanging in the air through nose and mouth, which will eventually make it's way into the digestive system, that I'm worried about. Staying out of the kitchen does...
  6. In light of what we know about flour staying in the air for 24 hours, I'm wondering what your policies are for visiting other peoples' homes after they have been baking. My close friends know not to bake if I am coming over that day or the next. But sometimes I'm invited to dinner parties or potlucks at acquaintances' houses - my rule of thumb with this...
  7. Hi there. I see you posted this a while ago, but I just made an appointment with Dr. Tennyson and am really glad to read such a positive review. I was diagnosed several years ago, but moved to NYC recently and am really eager to be under the Celiac Disease Center's care.
  8. Way to be so proactive. It is definitely good to get the ball rolling with a doctor to get to the root of your tummy troubles. A couple of ideas: if there is a center specializing in Celiac Disease at a hospital near you, get an appointment there. Those doctors will be very well versed in the disease and, given your symptoms, you shouldn't have any...
  9. No oats, at least in the new Chocolate Chip and Double Chocolate Brownie formulas. Those are the only two I saw at the store, which was still stocking the old versions of Enjoy Life's other flavors. I react to oats as well, so let's hope the steered clear of them entirely!
  10. Hi Shauna, For hair I use Neutrogena Shampoo Anti-Residue Formula (although I don't love it, just haven't been able to find anything else that works for me) and Neutrogena Clean Replenishing Conditioner. Soap: Dove Unscented Beauty Bar Moisturizers: Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for my face, and plain old Vaseline rubbed in well for everything...

    ARCHIVED What Do You Eat?

In addition to being gluten free, I also cannot tolerate tapioca and millet, and have anaphylactic allergies to dairy, eggs, nuts, red meat and mustard: Maldon sea salt Unio olive oil Silk soy milks and yogurts Rice Chex Glutino pretzels EnerG pretzels Schar rolls and baguettes Enjoy life cookies, bars, chocolate chips EnerG flours 'Cause You...
  12. Just spotted the first of Enjoy Life's reformulated cookies in the grocery store today (Fairway in NYC). Bought a box of the Chocolate Chip and while I already thought the old ones were very good and it doesn't look like the ingredients have changed much, they are noticeably better!
  13. Hi Donna, just wanted to chime in even though you've cleared it up. I've taken West-Ward's Prednisone several times with no ill effects, and I am very sensitive. Good luck!
  14. Hi all, I will be spending some time in Middlebury, VT this summer. Very pleased that it looks like Hannaford and Shaw's are both there, as they usually have a good selection of gluten-free groceries, but I am curious about eating out. Any celiac-friendly places in town or near by? Thanks!
  15. Hi all, I'm flying NYC to Rome on Alitalia in a few days. I normally steer very clear of airline gluten-free meals and bring my own food instead. But, it occurred to me that because Italy is celiac savvy Alitalia's meal might be worth looking into. I will call them to ask about it, but am wondering if anyone has had the meal recently. Thanks!
  16. Thanks, all. I think you're right, it seems too risky without having them sanded down. The landlord wasn't keen on doing that, so I took another place with granite countertops...phew.
  17. I'm apartment hunting in New York City and have come across a great place with a large kitchen (which is a definite must for a celiac and can be hard to come by in NYC), but the countertops are unvarnished wood. I've never cooked in a kitchen with wooden butcher block countertops, so have never considered whether or not gluten could work its way into them...
