  1. We had to find our dog gluten free, vegetarian and hypoallergenic food which is $103 per bag. Not cheap as each bag lasts about six weeks. But he is just too darned cute and precious!
  2. My husband's turn and he is making his world famous spicy meaty nachos with a few cheeses. Not many nacho chips (high carbs) but lots 'n lots of meat! Oopsie bread, though I do not exactly love it. But I season them like crazy to make them more palatable.
  3. This is a big deal. You did a wonderful job remaining firm. Celiac can actually help one to become assertive when necessary which can be a good thing. Happy birthday to you!
  4. Oh, my, I just realized how much I missed out on your post! When I saw "steal" my mind went to the vehicle itself.
  5. notme, I am sorry you had a less than stellar Christmas! All that commotion...yikes. And a vehicle stolen! My brother's van was stolen Christmas Eve as he and his wife and four little ones left it running while they went caroling (it was -30C). Her purse was stolen along with all the kids' car seats, etc. My brother actually got into a friend's vehicle...
  6. Addy, I am doing keto which is different from paleo in that I am allowed dairy. I truly would also draw the line at dairy. But we are allowed less carbs than on paleo. I shouldn't say "allowed" because I bristle at that word when it comes to "diets". I hate that word, too, and instead call this a new lifestyle plan. Either way, the average American...
  7. I read your "report" last night but on my tablet so I did not feel like typing a long response in return. A wee bit lazy, I know. Good idea re weighing after a month. I too want to be bikini ready! Umm...that is just not going to happen. ETA: I am unable to reply to each person individually today - not working.
  8. It really is not a good way to live. It seems like anything outside is a struggle. Even getting outside is a struggle. But not for long! Soon we will are on our way! So, yay and hooray. Then we can play. But not in hay. Even in May. What do you say? Sheesh. I am low carbing it and am going through horrid sugar withdrawals. Even my brain hurts...
  9. Oh, Irish, I so agree! gluten-free is nothing compared to this ketogenic/sorta paleo stuff. Wow, this is tough. I crave sugar so badly I am gnawing on my arm. Almost, anyway. Give me 1 tablespoon of dark brown sugar. Please, oh, please. Oh, to only be gluten free like a week ago! Have you lost weight? Addy, hope tomorrow is extra special. What could...
  10. Some days it seems almost unbearable, especially as cold really exacerbates my pain. Knowing this is our last real winter helps a little until I look out the window and all I see is white bleakness and see -30 on our thermometer thinger. My husband and I look at our trip pictures on the TV monitor and revel in the zillion shades of greens in the vegetation...
  11. It is too cold to play in the snow IH, and you know it, you little...um...braggart! Thanks for NOT mentioning your weather. We have had lots 'n lots of snow on the ground since November 1 which means 65 days too many! With no end in sight until the end of April, cabin fever has already set in.
  12. This eating low carb is a learning experience. Tonight is juniper, apple cider, etc. brined pork loin with a whole grain mustard glaze; leek gratin with Swiss and Parmesan cheeses; a myriad of raw veg with a three-onion dip. Cinnamon bun muffin for dessert.
  13. Thanks. I have been using this site for a few recipes and am making cheese biscuits and crackers this afternoon. For some reason I was not thinking of net carbs earlier but total carbs. Net carbs really makes a difference in things such as fruits which makes me a happy girl. My plan is to give this a good three months and note any changes.
  14. Yes, we are really restricting our fruits (sadly) and starchy vegetables, of course. Today is only Day 3 and I feel irritable, sort of ill and really, really crave something sweet. Am guessing it is withdrawal. What sweet things do you eat? I made cinnamon bun muffins yesterday (decent) and Oopsie bread today (not nearly as good as I was hoping a) but...
  15. This stuff is all so new to me. Never in a million years did I think I would embark on such a "diet"! But I am. Thanks for your support and advice. Today is only Day 2 (sounds like the gluten thing all over again) but it is a start.
  16. Thanks for explaining. Ketogenic is similar except that it allows dairy and lots of it but only high-fat dairy which excludes milk. So, we have begun to drink unsweetened coconut and almond milks. Who would have thought that 1% dairy milk contains 12 g carbs and the coconut and almond only 1g? I didn't!
  17. I knew you were on paleo but the one I am doing is called ketogenic. The % fat is 65-70, 20-25 protein and 10 carbs (our goal is 50g). Is this similar to paleo? I am still in the research stage and have much to learn. What percentage breakdowns are you doing? We began today by eliminating sugar. We are both excited to begin this new journey but admittedly...
  18. I make my own. It is surprisingly simple and so darned good. But I also buy it from a local producer who also makes great sausages, etc. I would not make a good vegetarian!
  19. I can relate. Sleep is so rare for me that when I actually do, it is like a miracle, like last night. I would give almost anything to be able to sleep normally. Didn't fall asleep during sleep study whatsoever. Many nights drag on and on and on because I literally do not fall asleep. However, I do take a rx drug once a week otherwise I could not stand...
  20. Thank you. I have skimmed many posts re certain diets without really paying much attention but now I am. Actually, I am not calling it "diet" but rather a lifestyle change in the right direction!
  21. After seeing numerous articles, TV shows, etc. on this topic my husband and I are going LCHF for several reasons: 1. Sugar is inflammatory - I would love to lose this horrid 24/7 pain! 2. Prevent diabetes and Alzheimer's 3. Improve short-term memory 4. Weight loss 5. Become healthier - I eat WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too many carbs! So, it seems as...
  22. I don't think I've ever lost my appetite! The doctor told Mom I was born with a fist in my mouth. And I ADORE cooking. So, I cannot relate to you on those points. However, I would encourage you to go to the grocery store and pick up something you have never had or seen before, such as lemongrass or leeks or shallots and then cook a meal or dish...
  23. Addy, like you I got glutened over the holidays on a product that has been recalled by the government of Canada as it contained wheat (the day after eating it). Interestingly, my reaction was vastly different - almost completely neurological with just a vague feeling of malaise. But those neuro symptoms were bad. I was wondering what the heck was wrong...
  24. Sorta what I was thinking...
