  1. Wow - thanks for making my day with the compliments! It feels sooooo good to be loved. I am adamant that we take control of our own health (as much as we can) and do good things for our bodies, such as growing herbs or vegetables or ingesting things that our mothers and grandmothers used to. When you think about it, it is doubtful that my grandmas would...
  2. I so agree with the above. Michael Pollan says it very well, "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." HOW TRUE!!! When he says to eat food, he means real food, none of this fake fandangled crud we have grown so accustomed to. Many of you are aware that icky things like margarine and Cheez Whiz are one molecule short of plastic, right? What are we doing...
  3. I've been behind with the forum as of late and it looks as though I've missed some good stuff! This dinner looks fabulous.
  4. Roasted Poblano, Potato and Corn Chowder Chickpeas drizzled with grassy green Croatian olive oil and sprinkled with fleur de sel
  5. As you know, I am into condiments and sauces in a BIG way (C&S). This is another wondrous version of bacon jam that I am itching to share. Caveat - you should at least double or triple this recipe. Karen, I haven't done this in a slow cooker but I'd bet it would be wonderful! Open Original Shared Link
  6. Tonight is British Pub fayre: Cumberland Bangers with Mash (and my mash ain't no ordinary mash) and Caramelized Onion Sauce Mushy Minted Peas ...and I'm working on something else. Not exactly sure what it will be yet. And no, this is NOT code for something cabana-boy related, Irish!
  7. Yes - I'm just picturing cattle and sheep grazing on Switzerland meadows. Not so bad!
  8. Ugh. Your veal Marsala and risotto and swiss chard sound absolutely disgusting. That is such a classic, wondrous meal. I think we have room for all our meal ideas (at least my tummy does - it is now used to eating a bit more than usual). Lots of flying and airports involved but I think it'll be worth it!
  9. EXACTLY! We are responsible for our own health. I would not dare leave these decisions to others. Prior to my own celiac diagnosis I knew so very little about it and cannot expect everyone, including employees, to be well versed in it (though that would be lovely).
  10. That's so great to hear. It certainly makes things easier to bear and deal with!
  11. Finger foods. I am making: Buffalo wings Deviled wings Garlic bread with my homemade bread Korean scallion pancakes with sweet and spicy dip Roasted sweet potato fries with warmed spices
  12. My husband is my rock. Is it possible to be too supportive? If so, that is him. He is hyper alert and aware and does everything he possibly can to protect me. Our families, though not everyone "gets" it, are extremely supportive so I am very fortunate and grateful. When my husband eats gluten it is at work when I am absent, then he is careful not to...
  13. Our WM has no gluten-free section - just a couple of things literally under the wheat flour. No loss - I really dislike WM anyway and would not go there unless I absolutely had to.
  14. I've got a good starter that involves cabbage and apple peels! Will post after I finish making my bread.
  15. Often recipes look as good or even better than the pictures but not so with this one. They are sorta meh. I wouldn't mind looking young and slender like the Babycakes girl! She's a cutie, that is for sure. Unless the pictures of her lie as the food pictures do...
  16. Your meal sounds just a touch healthier than mine. But thankfully tomorrow is a new day filled with greens and vinaigrettes! Don't you just love mandolines? Mine gets good workouts, too.
  17. Buttercreams are very easy to make and extremely delicious. Tons of great recipes online. I wonder what that ingredient is??!!
  18. My copy was given to me as well. The recipes really are not that bad - just not worth making again in my opinion but I am a very, very particular baker. If you are like me (and I know you are) I would recommend other books instead. That is how I feel about cooking, too. I cannot settle and use the best ingredients I can get my hands on. If you see...
  19. Um...yeah. You should become a PI or sleuth. (blushing)
  20. I too have the book and have the ingredients on hand but the recipes are not all that wonderful; not bad, not great. I've had better.
  21. Hi, Irish! Missed ya. You know what else is good? Sprinkle thick bread with a good melting cheese such as Provolone (Cheddar not as good), top with bacon jam and slices of pear and broil. Oh, MAN! I can't stand it.
  22. I've been busy with going hither and yon and having company the past couple of days. Now everyone is gone and I am home alone while hubby travelled three hours to watch a hockey game. Peace and quiet. So, I made myself pork cracklings (almost as good as or equivalent to BACON) and: Thai Green Chicken Curry (tons of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves....
  23. No clue as I have never felt ill from eating gluten. But I started suspecting something (not celiac at the time) when I had miscarriages. Then three years ago I got bronchitis then pneumonia. After that my celiac fog started - I believe my illness may have triggered it, as did an accident that left me in constant chronic pain. I have been diagnosed with...
  24. This sounds SOOOOOOO good. Can't wait to get up and going again so I can do some serious cooking! Soon...
