  1. Sora, you MUST come! It would not be the same without you. We'll just have to come up with some interesting "chores" for you, too! Actually, you love cooking also - you can cook with those of us who love to do it.
  2. As you can tell, I'm not GottaSki responding here ( ) but what the heck...try this jerky recipe. Dead easy and even more deadly tasting. http://www.food.com/recipe/homemade-beef-jerky-42272
  3. How are you doing your beans and steak? Inquiring minds want details!
  4. It was on the news and a documentary - will do some digging to see if I can find the info to post. It was very interesting and the first I had heard of the strong opposition to it. Sometimes you have to wonder whom to believe? ETA: Here is one short article - will do some more looking. http://www.cbc.ca/ne...ermography.html One more...this...
  5. My Mom has always called me for cooking advice. I was the cook in the family since I was very young. Friends and people I don't even know call me several times a week re food-related questions. Love it! Tonight we are traveling to India: Authentic Chicken Curry (with homemade Madras and mango chutney) with Toasted Almonds Curried Potatoes with Mustard...
  6. Oh, so sorry about cancer running in your family. My dad died of cancer, too. Just saw a show on TV about thermography and it is now being outlawed in areas in Canada because it gives so many false positives and false negatives. Brand new research as of a few days ago. Not to scare you or anything but I would personally think twice about it. Many...
  7. I would only make dressing with torn chunks of homemade or unsliced bread. If the bread falls apart and turns into crumbs, what is the point? That is more like gloop with indistinct chunks of bread. There is such a thing is great dressing. It really helps if you brown the chicken bones in the oven when making stock. I add something for crunch such as...
  8. I recommend the second one first. I also have an excellent recipe for breadsticks and focaccia if you want.
  9. When I was diagnosed I was called asymptomatic because I did not present with any seemingly related issues at the time. BUT as time has worn on I have come to realize that indeed I have symptoms. For example, I did not put it together until after my diagnosis that my miscarriages were most likely caused by celiac. I was involved in an accident five years...
  10. You're right - we are both crazy. My lips can practically turn blue yet I keep on with those smoothies. But today is a soup day. I made pasta e fagioli and it is excellent. Today I am also making an artisan loaf of bread, with a slit slightly off centre and heavily dusted with flour, and awesome flavour. I love that I can form it into a loaf with...
  11. We go through some crazy stuff, don't we? Yes, I do have trigger points there which are hyper sensitive. My massage therapist massages my pecs each week which feels so good and loosens things up, at least for the week. I sort of mentioned frequent massages to my husband and he didn't exactly shudder at the thought, nor did he flee...
  12. It made me smile widely this morning to see so many well wishes and concern about my unfortunate day yesterday! Wow. It is awesome that we have each others' backs! Thank you.
  13. It WAS scary. On the way to the hospital my husband and I were trying to talk about "normal" things to be calm. It really helped. Thankfully my BP was perfect. My first mammogram 1.5 years ago was not painful whatsoever. This one was very painful as it was not a scanning mammogram but a diagnostic one which requires even more squishing! I also had...
  14. I'm ok. This morning I awoke to intense pressure on my chest radiating into my shoulder blades. It felt as though someone were sitting on my chest, making it tricky to breathe well. So, this morning I was poked and prodded. Thankfully the ER doc I saw was thorough. He said it was not a heart attack but muscle tightness - could be my costochondritis acting...

    ARCHIVED Aroma!

Man, I still love the aroma of freshly-baked breads and other baked goods. Makes me drool. I am a baker and am so passionate about food that for me it is impossible to forget how good things taste/smell. Thankfully, as I am a baker I can make exciting and delicious baked goods. For the first few weeks after going gluten free I had withdrawal. My...
  16. Spent the morning in the ER (blech - thought I was having a heart attack) so my dinner plans are now on hold for tomorrow's dinner. So, we just had gnocchi (easy to whip up quickly) with a fresh tomato sauce. And some of my garlic cucumber dills.
  17. The word you may be thinking of is ghee. All you do is melt butter and skim off the milk solids (that is where the lactose resides). You cannot replace butter or ghee one for one with most fats unless they are solid at room temperature.
  18. And just think - we live many hours north of Montana. At least you got a good taste of the cold! We used to have to milk cows in pitch blackness before school at -45F. The coldest temperature I have ever been in was -52F with windchill of -65F. And we STILL had to go to work as normal!
  19. The first 20 times shoveling are ok but when it goes and on and on and on for at least six months it becomes rather tedious, especially when we have nowhere left to pile the snow (shoveling onto 5 foot tall piles really isn't that much fun). At least we have a snowblower, though. And I may as well take advantage of my herniated discs now and then and not...
  20. Maybe she will be so busy shoveling she won't notice the kitchen activity. More food for us! We have just enough stairs to keep the boys busy running to and from the downstairs deep freezers, showing off their brawn. May I request one intellectual boy at least for intelligent conversation? Wait a minute - where is my husband in all this??
  21. Gladly. But only for a few days because I don't do well with heat! Before I commit, what kind of temps are we talking about?
  22. Hi Dennis. Thanks for sharing your story. I too wonder how many have died with celiac-related cancers and other illnesses because they were not tested. It would likely be startling. I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago and do all my own baking - always have, always will. Dining out and international travel (airports, delays...) are frustrating and challenging...
  23. This is too good! I'll see what I can do...
  24. Can they ever! I mean, I have no idea...
  25. We will be shoveling yet again tomorrow. The snow ploughs are on our street this very minute, actually. Usually they wait until about January until we have a lot of snow built up but this year the snow came early - five weeks ago - and it has stayed. This will be the longest winter ever! Maybe the snow plough guys are really cabana boys in disguise!
