  1. i have two spice mixes from Club House-both called Tex Mes One Step seasoning and one has hydrolyzed wheat protein in it and the other doesn't. I was SO mad at myself for screwing that up, should have known better but still...grrrrrr....
  2. I would think so. Ditch the krispies and see how you feel. I haven't been eating them, so I can't comment on whether they cause problems but if not gluten-free< I would suggest you stay away. As well, I see you have not been on the diet that long. It can take a while to heal. So a combo of nasty krispies and short time on the diet can be the cause, definitely...
  3. canker sores are definitely a sign of celiac...I had a sore throat for MONTHS and since I have been gluten-free for about 6 weeks, it has absolutely gone away..I never even mentioned it to my Dr. because I had so many weird, non GI seemingly unrelated symptoms which all seem to have come from celiac. If you think you have celiac and are able to, I would...
  4. Hello! I am not sure I understand-if her blood work and biopsy indicated Celiac, she has it. There are many Celiacs called "silent" celiacs that have little to no symptoms and the celiac disease comes out while they are being tested for something else. I had no GI symptoms, none of my Dr's can believe I have Celiac disease but it is what it is...Even if...
  5. Thank you Lisa, It IS a weary head. Personally, I am feeling that there is a lack of resources in Canada for Celiacs, from food availability to Dr's knowledge of what is going on to finding a Dr. that even CARES that many celiacs have no gut symptoms (my GI Dr. had NEVER seen it like I had it (although I admit he had a Doogie Howser quality to him, very young...
  6. THANK YOU!!! It looked to me like the villi were all gone (it was all very smooth) but I guess they can't see the microscopic stuff. I thought they were ALL GONE and nobody told me any different. This actually makes me feel a bit better but will certainly lay off the ice cream for now. Thank goodness I found this place.
  7. Hello all my gluten-free compadres I read in another topic (that I can't find now) that if you have total villous atrophy that you are lactose intolerant? I have no symptoms when I drink milk or eat cheese or ice cream (but again, I never had D or C and just lost weight mysteriously, no pain or stomach issues really), but am afraid that I am possibly...
  8. i love hearing stories like this!
  9. Well, I am in Canada and I expect although the reasoning is different, there are HUGE waiting lists for these things, so they have to move people on as fast as possible....There is huge pressure from the gov't (and of course, the general population) to reduce wait times..MRI's can take months to get. I got my endoscopy in just under 3 months and that was...
  10. So the report said "total villous atrophy" and I saw pictures of what it looked like (mine-no folds but with veiny looking patches) and what it should look like (smooth with folds and like the inside of your cheek). Dr. couldn't believe that I only had symptoms in the last 6 months and never heard of neurological presentions like my neuropathy. Didn't seem...
  11. Thanks so much! I am definitely looking into acupuncture, need to get a script from GP and insurance will pay for it... How did you know that corn was a problem? I don't get GI issues (well, they are so far the same no matter what I do) but I am wondering if I ate something i shouldn't have...sigh... thanks ada
  12. Well crap. I have been gluten free for a month. MAin symptoms at diagnosis are painful neuropathy and big weight loss, anxiety, depression and crippling insomnia also maladsorption of Vitamin D and possibly others to be retested in a month. I was doing OK, sleepng OK, trying to wean myself off of the sleeping pills. Nerve pain was tolerable. I did a LOT...
  13. Oh MY! That sounds just like me! My whole body feels like I am getting the flu. I am gluten-free for almost a month and was "ok" but this weekend, I just feel horrible, sick, flu like... I think these things take time and everybody is different...I hope she feels better soon ada
  14. Hello So I never knew gluten was a problem until I had my tests since my problems were mostly neuro...So if I had a problem with dairy, would it manifest itself in the same way? Or would I have gut problems, since it is not an autoimmune response (i don't think). I started to go dairy-light (only milk in my tea) but I don't know if it made any difference...
  15. So after my original antibody tests for Celiac, my Dr. ordered a bunch of labwork. vitamins and minerals etc... ONly thing that was out of spec was Vit D at 70 (lower range of 75). So since then I have been taking at least 2500 IU of vit D a day and now, 3 months later, my Vitamuin D is 47. YIKES So we are upping that...It has been 2 weeks that I have...
  16. Living in Canada, we don't get the same gluten-free foods (ie Betty Crocker gluten-free brownies) I had a dream last night that I ate a do-nut and now I want one SO badly....I am < 2 weeks gluten-free and haven't had any cravings yet but that dream made me nuts!
  17. according to wikipedia, they claim it is gluten free Open Original Shared Link I think my dietician said it was OK.... and actually i did a google search on "is amaranth gluten free" and it seems to be.
  18. I found this: Filmkote Tablets 50 mg Each round, biconvex, peach coral tablet, intagliated "GRAVOL" on one side and quadrisected on the other, contains dimenhydrinate 50 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: alumina, cellulose, FD&C Yellow No. 6, lactose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, silicon dioxide, starch (corn), talc, and titanium dioxide....
  19. hmmmm my GI's office said at least a month and lots of gluten while I was at it...
  20. so after 6 months of poor appetite and losing weight (28 lbs so far) and a week gluten-free, I am STARVING. Absolutely starving! I hope it keeps up! I forgot what it is like to feel "hungry"...
  21. I'm in Burlington...can I come to play too??? Ada
  22. you should start feeling better by now being gluten free (it's been a week) I will scream. a) I have few GI symptoms (except weight loss of 25 lbs in 6 months w/o trying) b ) I have LOTS of neuro symptoms c)The GI saw damage on the endoscopy that looked like classic celiac. He took the biopsy, but there was damage visible already. I am thinking...
  23. If I wash my pots and pans in the dishwasher, do I really need to buy new ones to designate as gluten free? I wouldn't think that metal is that porous (although I did get rid of my teflon). I bought a new cast iron wok/pan that will definitely be gluten free, but as for the stainless steel, do you think it's necessary? Especially since I will probably never...
  24. i will be horrid with you! my stools are ACRID. I think I know what you mean, although not loose but very acidic smelling..as well, i have a crazy coated tongue that feels SO weird and also like it has been hit with some acid. i have never described it that way and my Dr has no idea why although i am very new to this, so maybe stopping the gluten will help...
