i am so lucky! my family and friends have totally embraced this lifestyle for me. My sister cooks everything on parchment paper and even puts it on her cutting board to avoid any potential contamination...my best friends will always go to extreme measures and when we have dinners, it is all gluten-free so I don't have to worry. They all saw me when I was...

ARCHIVED Feet Problems/neuropathy/amputations
adab8ca replied to shericeliac2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
[ My question is this: Have any celiacs had similar issues with their feet(i have read that neuropathy can be a side affect of celiac)?? Could the ulcers on his feet be a side effect of years of undiagnosed celiac?? Could celiac have contributed to his feet ulcers developing or not healing?? -
I miss: Triscuits Whole wheat tortillas Timbits Fresh french bread from the bakery (Hubby and I ate this for YEARS every Saturday, gluten-free bread does NOT cut it) Hot, fresh pizza Fast food of ANY KIND (and I NEVER used to eat it but now that I can't have it, i want it more!!!) I just hate reading every label. If the list is too long, I just...

ARCHIVED New And Confused
adab8ca replied to sbloom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
YIKES. I think it is irresponsible for the Dr to say you have a mild case of celiac and don't worry until you get bowel problems. He need me to send him a NEWS flash. I had no bowel symptoms. My symptoms were excruciating nerve pain in my feet and legs and crushing suicidal anxiety and depression. So much pain. SO much sadness. My feet couldn't touch the... -

ARCHIVED Could It Be Possible To Cure Yourself With Diet?
adab8ca replied to Terri O's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hmmm...i didn't read the whole thing but celiac is not a food allergy, it is an autoimmune diesase where your body attacks itself. so, people are "cured" when they stop eating gluten but if you start again, you will have the same autoimmune response. i know people often get relief from other condirions, like RA, when stopping gluten, RA is also autoimmune... -

They were chocolatey and wheatey with a chocolate-mint glaze. They looked SO moist and rich, so I was asking the people eating them to describe them to me, so that I can vicariously live through these brownies Now, I was kidding, everyone knows I don't play the victim but man, these looked awesome. And somebody says to me "I don't know how you do it! You... -
ARCHIVED Is There Anyone That Doesn't React When Glutened?
adab8ca replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that is definitely true. I was diagnosed 6 months ago but only started getting sick about a year ago. Nothing before that but my villi were totally damamged, the GI doc said this has been going on for years. After bloodwork but before biopsy last summer I went gluten-free for a month. Then I had to eat gluten for 6 weeks before the biopsy and I felt... -
Do I Need The Endoscopy?
adab8ca replied to Marie1976's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well well well, those are some pretty high results. What I ahve been able to find (because my TTG was >200) is that the false positives tend to be low and that there may be a correlation between damage to the villi and the TTG. My villi were totally atrophied and the Dr. could tell I was a celiac without even the biopsy results (although he went and took... -
ARCHIVED Knowledgable Gi Doctor In Mississauga, Ontario Area?
adab8ca replied to Jennywenny's topic in Doctors
I have a guy in Burlington that basically I didn't see until my endoscopy and then I got the results one month later and he said "yup, it's celiac. Gluten free is the only way to go. Not much more I can do for you unless you don't get better". What the HECK? I got a better response from the rheumatologist that I saw as recommended by the neurologist that... -
ARCHIVED If I Have Celiac And Ibs...
adab8ca replied to healinginprogress's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, since doctors don't know what causes IBS, I think it may be possible for IBS to actually be sometimes undiagnosed celiac disease. You won't know until you try, everybody is different.I would give the diet a chance, since you really have to give up the gluten anyway. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Curious

First, welcome! You are now finally on the road to health. I am one of you in that I thought I was going to get diagnosed with MS or ALS or some neurological problem or cancer. I had bad neuropathy in my feet and hands. Terrible headaches. Weeks and weeks of headaches. Anxiety attacks that were unbearable and horrible depression. Insomnia where I did not... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin B Deficiancy
adab8ca replied to Happyw5's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would start with getting your b levels checked..Thing is, it takes a long time to become deficient, so if you do have nerve damage from this, it can take a long time to heal. -
According to a naturopath I met at a health food store, she recommended Aloe Vera. It is a liquid, I add it to juice as per the instructions on the bottle (maybe 2 oz's per day). No idea if I have healed my gut, but I thought it couldn't hurt. The way she explainec it is the healing properties for aloe on the outside on your skin will work on the inside...

Hmmm. I presume you have had other testing to rule out other causes of illness? There are blood tests that she can start with and the biopsy which is NO inconvenience at all...When I first went gluten-free (and I am a blood work AND biopsy confirmed celiac with no GI symptoms but mostly neurological) I felt like I was getting the WORST flu ever. Wow. If I...

Grrr. The one about taking responsibility PIZZES me off. We AREt rying to take responsibility and all we are asking is to LABEL THE STINKING products!!! Don't ban them, don't need to segregate them in the store, please just let us read what is in the product. This shouldn't be too hard, the manufacturer should KNOW already. And if they don't, do you really... -

ARCHIVED Is A Negative Biopsy Final?
adab8ca replied to xabbar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Definitely possible!!! There is a huge amount of intestine that can be damaged and unless the Dr biopsies the right spot, it can be missed...As well if the kid is young, there may not be that much damage. I was "lucky" (tongue in cheek) that I had total villous atrophy, so no doubt and tons of damage, easy to find Did they do any blood testing for him...
