ARCHIVED Costco
adab8ca replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found big boxes of gluten-free crackers there, big boxes of gluten-free cereal, organic Quinoa at good prices! I am in Canada, Southern Ontario but I was impressed with the stuff they had...I also seem to remember thinking that their Kirkland brand stuff was pretty well labeled. -
ARCHIVED I Miss Lindor Chocolates :(
adab8ca replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, I am just here to commiserate! I don't trust much of the chocolate out there...For example, Aero bars, regular, have no mention of wheat. The little small bars in bags say "may contain wheat" even though none of the ingredients are wheat-y and the ingredient list is the same on both. Maybe it's where it's manufactured, dunno, but I don't want to risk... -
ARCHIVED Only Good Thing About Having Celiac...
adab8ca posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
(Well, of course beyond the fact that we hopefully won't get horrifically sick from some undiagnosed illness) It certainly stops indiscriminate eating during the holidays! I would always be " ooooh, cookies...oooh chocolate" at work because everyone brought in tons of stuff and now I can't. And even though I MISS the stuff (especially now when I am surrounded... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results
adab8ca replied to okieinalaska's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Amy in Alaska!!! Well, this may be good news for you or bad...You are looking to me like you have Celiac. Normally, they give you the results and then a normal range. However, the TTG>100 just means it is very high. The positive EMA (Endomysial AB) also indicates Celiac. The IgA, Serum was done to determine the valididty of the TTG and EMA. Many... -
Well, I bought the spices. I didn't even eat at the restaurant and I just feel so weird and it is so random. Maybe if they aren't pure spices, I should stay away. I honestly don't know how sensitive I am but I had antibodies off scale and total villous atrophy and my guts were fine fine fine, happy happy happy...just wish the rest of me was

I asked if their steak spice was gluten-free and got this Hello Ada, Thank you very much for contacting us. Our Keg Steak Seasoning does not contain any ingredients with gluten. Our spice is, however, produced in a plant where there are products with gluten present. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any other...

I have 2 sisters. One sister (who I will call sister #1)goes to EXTREME measures to ensure I can eat anything that she serves or CLEARLY warns me. Uses parchment paper on cooking pans, on her cutting board, totally "gets" it. My other sister (called sister #2) is a vegetarian, thinks she has issues with gluten but will not get checked because she loves bread...

My local starbucks told me that their Christmas drinks were NOT Gluten free. They said their teas are, so I had a chai tea but didn't feel great days later (I only have neuro symptoms and it has been exceptionally bad lately-don't know if it is what I am eating or just the yukkiness of neuropathy and associated things that are unpredictable) So now I don...

ARCHIVED Varying Types Of Reactions-- All From Gluten?
adab8ca replied to GFshay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi there A month gluten-free is not very long at all. Celiac is a great mimic and the symptoms can vary wildly. My symptoms were neurological in various forms. I have been gluten-free just over 2 months and still have many symptoms. I developed NEW symptoms after going gluten-free (vertigo/lightheadedness) that seems to subsiding somewhat. You won't get... -
Nobody knows much about Celiac in Southern Ontario it seems! I am in Burlington. Luckily my GP, although she doesn't know much about Celiac was all over it when I was diagnosed. Even with only bloodwork she sent me to a dietician specializing in Celiac. That may actually be your best bet, to find a dietician that knows what is going on. The neurologist that...

ARCHIVED ...not What I'd Planned.
adab8ca replied to nextjenx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First, I am so sorry about the jerk. You sound much better off without him, although I know how hard this can be! Re: excited with diagnosis, YES!!! I had NO GI symptoms. I lost about 28 pounds from Feb to August without trying, developed crippling anxiety, depression and insomnia and horrible painful neuropathy in my feet. It was so bad I thought i was... -
ARCHIVED Bone Pain - Leg Bones Severe
adab8ca replied to ScullyFord's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had horrendous bone pain. In my shins, my back, my ankles my feet.. It was truly bone pain. I was convinced it was bone cancer or spine cancer or something horrible. had to sleep with a pillow between my legs because it hurt to touch them together. I have been gluten-free for 2 months now and the bone pain is MUCH better...Hope you get some answers soon... -
ARCHIVED Lab Test, Will Insurance Pay?
adab8ca replied to bincongo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She should contact her insurance company. In Canada, I know it is not covered and even the regular Celiac blood tests are not covered by insurance (although the biopsy is). Has she had other testing done that is inconclusive? The gene test will not tell you if you have Celiac, just that you have the genes to get it. I think lots of people have the genetic... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Frustrated!
adab8ca replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First, I am so sorry that you are feeling so poorly and seem to be getting little support. I don't think you are crazy. It sounds like you have gone off gluten and felt better in the past? A couple of things to think about. If you were off gluten for a time, you may have healed enough that the tests came back negative. as well, these tests can be sometime... -
ARCHIVED I Need Help!
adab8ca replied to vegankate108's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First, I am SO sorry that you are suffering so much. The physical symptoms SUCK, but as I have learned there is some school of thought that believes that celiac is a neuerological disease. All of my symptoms were neurological except for 28 pounds of weight loss in 6 months that was inesxplicable. However, I have since also showed some malabsorption. I have... -
That is SO wonderful and I am truly happy for you.

ARCHIVED Question About Celiac Disease
adab8ca replied to balor123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, good on the GI for knowing this! My symptoms are almost all neurological with nerve pain and damage and it turned out to be Celiac. If there is not a lot of damage, the biopsy can indeed be negative. The positive blood work is very interesting. It is just possible that you did not have that much damage. I did have incredible amounts of damage and NO... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Causing Neuropathy?
adab8ca replied to rose-thorn98's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yup. Exactly, small fiber neuropathy (my sig. has more details). It can take a long time to resolve unfortunately and depends on the cause. I have been gluten-free about 6 weeks and I don't think it is getting worse. Good luck and keep us posted! (and actually even if the tests come out negative, I would probably give the gluten-free a try. Apparently... -
ARCHIVED Develop Celiac Disease At 35
adab8ca replied to uruboy02's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am woman, 42 and have always been healthy and am very tall ( 5'11") so am fairly certain celiac did nothing to my growth:) My symptoms, mostly neuro, started 2 weeks after my almost 19 year old cat died. It was the most horrible time of my life and all this started then. I have never had typical celiac symptoms except weight loss and luckily my GP listened... -
ARCHIVED Negative Test
adab8ca replied to annpat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi I am sorry that you are feeling so ill. I am also 42 and was a medical mystery but my problems were mostly neurological and weight loss and one of the million specialists I saw ran a huge number of autoimmune tests that ulyimately showed Celiac, proven by biopsy and even now, the Dr's hardly believe it. It is a HUGE mimic of other things. Did you have... -
[ But in the grand scheme of life, I really got lucky. My disease is treated by eating healthy foods. No meds required. We can do this. This is why the forum is so helpful - when I need a reminder of how much it sucks but how well people are able to do with the diet, this is where I come. This is a place for grounding yourself. You're not alone. Planning...

ARCHIVED Weight Loss, You Look Like Crap.....
adab8ca replied to false-light's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
nuts nuts and more nuts.... I lost 28 lbs since Feb. and have put 4 pounds back on with nuts and nutty snacks... I feel your pain. I lost this weight without any GI symptoms, so everyone thought it was cancer. -
I thought I was totally good with all of this and would have no problems and I have screwed up at least 3 times in the last 3 weeks, so I am with you in the obsessing thing. I need to get organized with my food better, that is great advice that I knew intuitively but needed a reminder! Still, this sucks sometimes.
