  1. The very best chocolate chip cookies I have tasted to date are available from: www.patsypie.com I also love their Cranberry orange biscotti, dipped in tea...yummy. Both items freeze very well. Patsy herself told me that her gluten-free items will be available in stores soon...not sure if they'll be in the US, as she is located in Canada. I...
  2. My mom's 100% Irish...says she can't eat half the foods in existence, but she hasn't indiicated that she plans to be tested (age 76, very set in her ways)...She was ALWAYS taking OTC stomach meds while I was growing up...she eventually suffered from heart palpitations, and had to get a pace-maker. My dad is half English, half Czech... I have the gene...
  3. Hi, Well, I checked into gluten-free toothpaste and lipsticks, but realized that I forgot about floss...anyone know which ones are verified gluten-free? Thanks! Gina
  4. I had my endoscopy 2 months post going gluten-free, as I put myself on a gluten-free diet before finding out that it would affect my tests. I also had my Enterolab testing done 6 weeks post, was positive for everything (antibodies aand gene) and had a malabsorption score at that time of 286 (300-500=mild damage WHILE consuming gluten regularly)...I believe...
  5. Hello, Meghan, I just wanted to tag-on here, to also wish you well in your learning process about Celiac Disease. Whenever I see 'new here' listed on a post, I always feel happy for the new person...I was 'there' in January of this year...seems like a year ago now, because there has been so much to learn, and lots of emotions to deal with, too....
  6. Hi there, Karen, I just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed reading your post...seems that you are in touch with your feelings about all of this... One thing I am learning is that I MUST keep applauding myself for continuing to accept that liife is diffferent now... I am different...healthier...and that's all that matters... Food is food...
  7. MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO SHARED THEIR INFO... Let's see... Food...check.... Lip products...check... Toothpastes...check... Anything I need to be sure is gluten-free? hope not... Love to all, Gina PS - I had my FIRST mini-break-down over the past 2 days...I didn't want to remember I have Celiac's Disease...didn't want to eat, even....
  8. Dear Net support group: I am happy to report that I am done with the procedures, and it went well, other than needing a bottle of magnisium sulfate on top of the jug of 'lytes,' due to my throwing up some of the first prep fluids...My boyfriend was so supportive and never complained about our not getting to bed 'on time,' and my needing to get up often...
  9. Hi, All: Here I am, just began 'prepping' for tomorrow's procedures...and wanted to read your thoughts... THANK YOU for your lovely replies...I cannot quantify how much they mean, other than to say that your posts have truly calmed and strengthened me... ...tomorrow seems a lot less scary now... Your prayers, positive thoughts, shared stories...
  10. Hi, all... I just finished my new signature...I look at it, and it reminds me of how 'overwhelming' my health issues have been for the last 15 years... I just realized that I forgot to add the anal fissures and 2 surgeries that followed those... I sit here afraid to have the colonoscopy and endoscopy done in 3 days....but, when I look at all the...
  11. Hi, everyone - Just wanted to ask for your love and support... Am getting both the colonoscopy and endoscopy done this Friday...I am scared, of course.. of the procedures..hope I have a good doc... I haven't had a chance to talk with him yet about my blood tests and Enterolab tests results, but he did want me to FAX the Enterolab results to him...
  12. Hi - I am confused...did your dermatologist friend go to a conference on the effects of celiac on the skin? Or on the entire body? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My blood test came back 29 for Anti Gliadin Ab IgG. I saw the lab print out. It said <29.9 was 'negative,' but I have now seen somewhere...
  13. Thanks, everyone - I plan to have the colonoscopy and biopsies next Friday...to make sure the gluten-problems haven't caused cancer, and to rule out anything else - And, it doesn't matter at all anymore what the gastro doc may of may not end up concluding about "Celiac" - I didn't start going to him for a diagnosis of Celiac...I knew from the symptoms...
  14. One thing my boyfriend and I have decided to do is to purchase a 'chest-type' freezer...we figure we can even throw a nice cloth over it and use it as a side-table if need be - It will come in very handy for buying gluten-free items in larger quantities (thus, less shopping= less time and gas = less costs), and I can buy 'expensive' items that freeze...
  15. To the two members who have replied thus far... THANK YOU, SO MUCH! I have some little tears in my eyes forming...you took the time to help me...and you DID, "help".... THANK YOU... I will reply in full another day...only came on-line quickly to see if I got any replies/advice...have to leave right now to pick up my 4-year-old niece...am sitting...

  17. Hello - One of my many gastro-related symptoms in my past was anal fissures that would not heal no matter what I did...water, fiber, etc...I bled A LOT daily...was very scary... I was put through all kinds of awful tests...ended up getting two LIS's (lateral internal sphincterotomies) - which is when they cut the sphincter muscle, so it's not as tight...
  18. No more tangled intestines... Yipee! Welcome back, celiac3270 - Gina
  19. Given that you are 'a newbie,' I am concerned that you may MISTAKENLY believe that Celiac disease, or even gluten intolerance (which is also 'a verifiable illness' to be taken VERY seriously) MEANS that one must lose weight...not so.... I have read a lot now on the topic, and weight loss and Celiac does not always go 'hand-in-hand'... Just wanted to...
  20. I went gluten-free on my own BEFORE learning that it would interfere with regular testing...BUT, since I felt SOOOO much better after going gluten-free, I cannot possibly make myself eat gluten again, just to try to get positive test results via blood (which aren't always reliable), and I refuse to have any more invasive tests done if I don't need to - i...
  21. Thanks - I just tossed 2 Revlon lip glosses. Anyone know anything about Clinique or Estee Lauder lip products? Gina
  22. Great question - I was diagnosed ADD about 10 years ago now - I was also called "Space cadet" by my friends in college - Obviously, I was in 'brain fog' mode way too often while growing up... So far, my experience with being gluten-free and 'on' Ritalin is: (I take 20mg Ritalin LA each AM) The Ritalin seems to work better! Maybe it's getting absorbed...
  23. Enterolab is located in Texas - I just sent off my specimens this afternoon (stool and cheek cell samples) via pre-paid overnight DHL, which is all-included in the tests' costs.
  24. All of the bare escentuals lip products are gluten free. -------------------- Kaiti Positive bloodwork gluten-free since January 2004 Maryland ----------------- Just wanted to make sure Kaiti's info got tagged onto this post. G
