Oh..just to clarify, a site administrator came on the other day and said that this part of the above: "Replace your old wooden spoons and cutting boards. They can hold hidden gluten." is not necessary - that thorough hand scrubbing followed by dishwasher washing will remove gluten from wooden cutting boards/wooden spoons.... You do, however, need...

FaithInScienceToo replied to Claire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is this the med the researchers think will prevent 'leaky gut'? ...the one that is supposed to allow the gluten to be digested before the immune system can detect it? Gina -

ARCHIVED Had Bloodwork Done.....
FaithInScienceToo replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Karen! Good to hear that you and your doc are beginning to zero in on what exactly is going on with your bode. I hope that the colitis thing can be gotten under control, if that is what's keeping the diarrhea going. About why your TT IgA would go down...As you know, it goes down when your immune system begins to stop attacking your small intestine... -
ARCHIVED Had Bloodwork Done.....
FaithInScienceToo replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, 'refractory sprue' means 'no positive response to a gluten-free diet,' BUT does it always mean 'NEVER'? Anyone know about this? I have not looked into it yet... I have had no need to, since I have had a positive dietary response...but, maybe there is hope for Karen? Maybe the response is simply delayed, if she just hasn't healed up enough yet to... -

Oh...I just realized when I went to brush my teeth - ...about personal care products, you DO need to be sure to use gluten-free toothpastes and floss - I use Crest products. I do not use mouthwash, so I do not know what ones are gluten-free - You can find other dental care products that are gluten-free by doing a search on here - I know this... -

FaithInScienceToo replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Karen - I am sorry to hear that you haven't responded to the diet - perhaps the change in med will make a significant difference for you? I have not researched 'refractory sprue,' but am aware of it. Can it 'improve' in time? Do you know the stats on how many people, if any, with refractory sprue begin to respond to the diet, in time? My... -

FaithInScienceToo replied to Connielynn38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Connie - Yes...feeling overwhelmed is entirely normal... and, Yes....you must get your daughter tested, too. I had hives two times, for the first time in my life, soon before I finally learned about gluten. I also had DH blisters on my back. In fact, I still have a scar from a big one that I scratched too much. Anyway...it's not because she gets... -
ARCHIVED If You Could Eat Whatever You Wanted And
FaithInScienceToo replied to rmmadden's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to answer this one in this way: Since I first discovered that gluten had been harming me, foods with gluten in them no longer even registered in my brain as 'food'...they only register now as 'poison for me, food for non-Celiacs'...so, I do NOT miss gluten-containing foods at all - BUT, guys still register as guys, especially cute ones ;-) So... -

FaithInScienceToo replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
109-112 is now actually 110-113 ;-) I love the 'no pity parties' one AND the 'eat at home for a week' thing...but, if you cannot do that - take your own SAFE food with you when you need to during that week! (I guess that was obvious?) :-) What is NADH, BTW? 114 anyone? Oh...I have one....how about, look up some good jokes on the Net and then... -

Just two comments here - 1) Do not avoid fats...especially healthy fats, like olive oil, almonds or almond butter, and healthy fish oils. The best meals contain balanced amounts of lean proteins, carbohydrates (preferably complex carbs mainly) and healthy fats - Your intestines will not absorb nutrients (including fats) properly until you have fully... -
ARCHIVED Beware Of Older 'allergy' Cookbooks
FaithInScienceToo posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Was just Net-surfing for other gluten info, and came across this note in a 1997 "Celiac ActionLine" Newsletter: "3. Incorrect use of the term, Gluten: A new cookbook incorrectly lists these grains as containing gluten: buckwheat, chickpea flour, garbanzo flour, potato starch, and potato flour. The book is My Kid's Allergic to Everything Dessert... -
ARCHIVED How Were You Diagnosed?
FaithInScienceToo replied to krisb's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
4 years ago, I saw an Internal Medicine MD who specialized in Nutritional treatments. When he heard that I had been diagnosed as "Fibromyalgic," he told me 'no gluten,' among other things, and tried to sell me very expensive 'weird' homeopathic things... I thought he was a crook, or a severe health nut...unlike me, a normal health nut, just trying to get... -
I am SO glad that I decided to read this post - to find out what 'this' referred to in your subject line... Two months ago now I woke in the morning with bad pain on one side only in my rib cage - upper left - my family physician said it was most probably either a broken rib (not displaced, as he felt around) or the beginning of a first episode of Shingle...

So, we don't have to re-generate the info over and over again....? Just a thought - Gina -
