ARCHIVED Gluten Free Soy Free Cakes And Cupcakes
tea-and-crumpets replied to Alison R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's a mix, but you can't go wrong with the King Arthur Flour Chocolate Cake Mix. Open Original Shared Link It's gluten and soy free and honestly it's just as good as gluteny cake. The mix is expensive, but generous. It makes 24 cupcakes or two layers, so in the end it's the same price as the Betty Crocker mixes. -
Well, as long as you are not ingesting it, washing your hands after you put it on, and making sure that you don't get in any in your mouth, you should be okay celiac wise. Is this for rosacea or something else? I have found that my rosacea has improved (slowly) since going gluten free, where finacea didn't do a single thing to improve it. Also, I found...

ARCHIVED Omg, I Am In Bread Heaven!
tea-and-crumpets replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chebe is my favorite gluten-free food BY FAR. My husband and I go through so many packages a month we buy it in bulk now. I took it for Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family and they like it too. I would have loved it before I went gluten-free, I think. My favorite way to eat it is with tacos. Just split it open and put a little bit of taco meat... -
I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder, but a couple of times since I stopped eating gluten in October I have had serious, serious panic attacks, much worse than what I ever had before. The interesting thing is that I can be thinking completely clearly but it's like my body is taken over by waves of panic. I was at church one day and completely fine mentally...

ARCHIVED Symptoms You Never Realized You Had
tea-and-crumpets replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have keratosis pilaris (chicken skin) on my arms. I spent so much money on dermatologist visits and special exfoliators to get rid of it and eventually gave up. I've been gluten free for a little less than three months and it's 75% gone. People tell me that my facial skin looks more radiant -- I didn't have acne or anything, but I guess it just looked... -

I'm really glad people like the chicken bacon wraps! I should have mentioned that they're kind of a pain to make, totally worth it, though, in my opinion. I made them for Christmas Eve dinner with my family, too. I will definitely use chicken tenders next time, I never even thought of using them before. -
ARCHIVED King Arthur Flour Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix
tea-and-crumpets posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made cupcakes out of the King Arthur Flour gluten free chocolate cake mix and they were really, really, REALLY good. They taste almost as good as my mom's homemade chocolate cake. They aren't too crumbly to eat out of hand, even. My husband liked them and said they tasted like gluteny cake. The mix makes a LOT, though. It's meant to make two layers... -
ARCHIVED Annelise Roberts Gluten-Free Baking Classics
tea-and-crumpets posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had the good fortune of getting Gluten Free Baking classics from my sister for Christmas. I have a couple of questions. Which recipes are your favorites or have turned out really well? How should I handle making her baking mix? I have access to a Whole Foods and several health food stores -- do I really have to mail order the brown rice flour... -
ARCHIVED Finally Getting Somewhere!
tea-and-crumpets replied to Ox on the Roof's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty much the same way. I have found that I trust chains (PF Changs, Biaggi's) more than I do local places, though -- I ate off the gluten free menu at a local place and got really sick. I feel like chains are more afraid of legal action so they really train their staff. I might be crazy, but it has worked for me so far. -
ARCHIVED Costco
tea-and-crumpets replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Amazon... I have a Prime account so two day shipping is free. They definitely don't have everything, though, either. -
ARCHIVED Costco
tea-and-crumpets replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I definitely love Costco, but I was disappointed in the range of gluten-free items at my local stores. They no longer carry the big boxes of Bell and Evans chicken nuggets, for example. Also they don't have the Delimex taquitos. I find I have better luck buying gluten-free things like crackers and Chebe mix in bulk online. -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Shine A Little Light Please

Can you get to a dermatologist and have the rash biopsied? If it is DH, then you know for sure you have Celiac and can start on a gluten free diet immediately. -

ARCHIVED Major Meltdown Yesterday
tea-and-crumpets replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went gluten free on 10/10/10 and I finally had a big meltdown the other day. I handled Thanksgiving just fine, but I was in Trader Joe's and seeing all their Christmas goodies everywhere just upset me. Not that I would have eaten much of any of them, but the idea that I can't have it... Food is emotional, you know? Sometimes I feel like I'm outside with... -
ARCHIVED Tried The Tinkyada Pasta
tea-and-crumpets replied to TPT's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not a fan of the Tinkyada I prefer Trader Joe's brown rice pasta but neither are really great. I hate how gluten-free pasta doesn't reheat well. I'm used to making a big batch of something and reheating later, but it's enough to make me gag. :( I'm planning on trying the BiAglut if I can find it. -
ARCHIVED Tortilla Chips?
tea-and-crumpets replied to norahsmommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy the giant bags of Mission tortilla chips from Costco. They're gluten free (says it right on the bag) and from what I understand are made on dedicated lines. Plus, the Costco bags are less than $4. -
ARCHIVED My Experience With A Waiter Last Night, At Lost Dog Cafe
tea-and-crumpets replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's great! I had a similar experience when I went to Biaggi's -- my (very young!) waiter was very knowledgeable and kind when I asked about their gluten free menu. When it came time to wrap up the leftovers, he offered to take everyone's in the back and I told him I'd prefer just to wrap my own. He said "Oh, because of cross-contamination, right?" Turns... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice
tea-and-crumpets replied to Happytobefree's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am a bit worried about this for Christmas with my in laws, too. Tell her that you will only eat your own cooking. Frame it that you're making things easier on her -- now she doesn't have to worry if something is gluten free or not! That might be a relief to her. I understand what it's like to want to try and keep the peace, but this is your health... -
I had a lot of hair loss, also thanks to PCOS. I started eating gluten-free a couple of months ago and I am tentatively encouraged that my hair is growing back, but I'm not quite sure yet.

ARCHIVED Talking To Companies Does Make A Difference
tea-and-crumpets posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I first went gluten-free, I went to a Target that was pretty out-of-the-way for me. It was a Greatland Target, which means only a few grocery cases, etc, but they had a TON of gluten-free stuff -- several shelves in the freezer case, almost a quarter of a shelf (top to bottom) in the dry goods. Later, I went to my normal Target, a Super Target with... -
ARCHIVED Saltines Or Another Substitute?
tea-and-crumpets replied to tea-and-crumpets's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, all! Will try to track down the Dr Schar ones locally, but if I can't find them I think I'll use the Glutino ritz crackers and just break them in half, etc, to fill up the sheet. -
ARCHIVED What Type Of Flour To Use In Chili?
tea-and-crumpets replied to Bugsly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used some Better Batter AP flour mix in some chicken stew and it thickened things up nicely. I'd use that with chili, or perhaps some cornstarch. -

ARCHIVED Saltines Or Another Substitute?
tea-and-crumpets posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found a toffee recipe I want to make that involves putting a layer of saltines on a baking pan and covering it with toffee. Open Original Shared Link I thought about using the salted pecan nut thins, but the square shape is pretty important to the candy, because the toffee would just stick to the baking pan otherwise. Any ideas? -
ARCHIVED Realization About My Celiac
tea-and-crumpets replied to Lindsay630's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband agreed to go gluten-free at home with me. It is so much easier for me not to worry about cross contamination, especially after getting new pots and pans, etc. He's free to eat gluten out in the world and I'm not worried as long as he brushes his teeth before he gets home In fact, that's how we greet one another now. "Did you brush?" At...
