  1. Darby- Very interesting to hear what you have to say. I'll admit I lean more towards West than East. I think so much of it is how one has been raised. My husband and I have had many discussions about it. He grew up with collidal silver, iridology, enemas and a host of other natural treatments. I guess I am suspicous all the way around because neither...
  2. Hey there... So, I am going to get tested for other food intolerances. I have been having abdominal pain off and on for several weeks, and I did not have this kind of pain before going gluten-free. (Had gallbladd cked out and is okay). I was thinking of getting tested with Great Plains Labs or York, depending on which was easier with insurance. Has anyone...
  3. Open Original Shared Link Check out the thread above where there was discussion between some members with hypoglycemia. Maybe it will help you out...
  4. Hey! I got the IBS diagnosis 12ish years ago too. What a coincidence I think one can have a combination of both, but probably more often than not the Celiac is just misdiagnosed. ie.--My docs have been telling me for years that my chronic constipation was because I had IBS and that I just had to keep taking the Citricel (which didn't help at all)....
  5. Darby- So what does the doc do to "desensitize" you? My husband's family is very much into herbs/holistic medicine, so I would be interested to hear about the process. My husband hopes to find me a natural cure for Celiac too ! I had been to several natural/holistic doctors until I was finally diagnosed by my hematologist. However, there is a difference...
  6. Sheila- Here is some other misc. info that might be helpful... "Initial screening for celiac disease is a blood test taken by your physician. The test can be referred to as a Celiac Panel or by the names of the individual tests. To provide the most accurate information, the blood test should include the following tests: anti-endomysial antibody (lgA EMA...
  7. Sheila- It is easy to be pessimistic at times because often we do not get much from our doctors. However, there are some out there that are helpful. And many that are willing, but need to be "coached" by a Celiac If I was you, I would make sure my approach to the doc was respectful, but also confident and firm. You should be able to tell right away...
  8. hey, there's a distributor in indy. thanks !
  9. I'm not sure. I had my gallbladder/liver checked out and they were okay. So, my best guess at this point is other food intolerances. I'm going to do some testing for them. Maybe casein (dairy), soy ? It's strange b/c before going gluten-free I never really had this type of repetitive stomache. Perhaps eating the gluten masked other reactions I could...
  10. Darby- First off, have a blast in Hawaii! I went there a year and a half ago--to Maui. Where are you staying? You will love it. And you will have the option of a lot of fresh fruit, veggies, fish etc. there. Make sure you do the 'road to hanna.' But instead of driving up and back down, I'd recommend driving aroud the other side of the island--so beautiful...
  11. I don't always get the 'classic' Celiac symptoms, so I could probably pull off certain types of cheating with no immediate consequences. However, when I think of cheating, which luckily I am not really tempted to do, I think of things to look forward to from continuing to eat gluten, like possible lymphoma or the myriad of others things we all know and love...
  12. Mel- do you know if caffeine bothers you? i can not tolerate it at all, and i can not even do decaf. a decaf starbucks would have been killing me. even herbal teas seem to get my gut going. just a thought...
  13. Hey thanks--I live in Indy, so that's probably the closest place to me to get gluten-free beer. I might make it down there sometime....
  14. Shimma- I just went out and read reviews for elaine's book. Wow-they were pretty compelling. I'm just starting to read about it. Have you used it yourself and success?
  15. Wow--that is not fun. I was diagnosed with IBS about 13 years ago! Those symptoms ranged from diarrhea to constipation, gas, painful cramping (always in lower abdomen), would usually have to sleep the pain off. Meds unfortunately never really worked for me--usually made me feel disoriented. Before I went gluten-free I took zelnorm on occasion, worked...

    ARCHIVED Must Read!

Qtsy-Thanks for the info. What kind of symptoms do you get from Hypoglycemia?
  17. Michelle- Wow, what a place you are in. I also know the desire of wanting to be validated in my illness and receive empathy from the one I love the most. It is seems like you and your boyfriend are both experiencing your own forms of 'brokenness' right now, however you do each choose to respond to that brokenness differently. It sounds like your boyfriend...
  18. Hi all! I'm looking for some recipes-- Anybody have one for white chocolate macadamian nut cookies? Or one for a non-yeast bread using amaranth flour? Thanks!!
  19. Thanks Kate! I see you definitely have additional intolerances. Aside from improvements at removing gluten, have you been able to notice an improvement from removing your other intolerances?
  20. Okay, so now I'm a bit confused. I had a list of gluten-free alcohols I've been refering to that said Hornsby's Ciders are okay, and that Woodchucks are not okay. (and the Woodchuch website said they can not verify they are gluten-free). So, then I looked at a delphi list that said the opposite--Hornsby's are not gluten-free, and Woodchucks are. Ah! ...
  21. Hey all! I was wondering, what is the difference for a food intolerance vs. a food allergy? I wanted to get tested for additional intolerances, but my doc did an allergy test. The results came back negative. I want to make sure I have actually been tested for INTOLERANCES, not a classic allergies. How do you test for those-what are indicators? What...
  22. Hey celiac3270--hook me up. Please PS--You're the bomb jenvanhoozer@hotmail.com
  23. Hey all-- I am finding out that makeup/chemical ingredients can be a real "beotch" to understand. This website is a good resource, lists a plethora of ingredients in chemicals and makeups etc, and gives definitions of what they are. So if a company sends you an ingredient such as: acetyl glyceryl ricinoleate, you can look it up. Hope this helps out some...
  24. Thanks for the info !
  25. Abby- I think it looks fine. This website is a good resource--has definitions of random chemicals that are hard to identify... I looked up one of the random ingredients in your chapstick and it told me what it is: Open Original Shared Link Also--here is a list of gluten-free chapstick products in case you or anyone else uses those...
