  1. If it's somebody who's going to cook for her again, you need to tell them. At bring up the fact that she is ill, and give them the opportunity to ask "With what?"
  2. Bigbread~ Are you diagnosed with celiac disease at all yet?
  3. This might be a stupid question, but when you make bread crumbs from bread yourself as you describe, does it keep longer than the loaf of bread itself? I remember my mother-in-law keeping a bag a fresh bread crumbs she got from a deli. I was appalled when she told me she kept it for months. Do baked/dried out crumbs keep longer? I always figured regular...
  4. I wonder if it was the organic vs. regular? I didn't even intend to get organic. I couldn't find the difference between the 2 brown rice packages I was looking at. Maybe the other was regular? it stated on the bag, that it stood up to over cooking, so I was surprised when I cooked it for LESS time it came out the way it did. I rinsed it, but not too...
  5. What do you use for bread crumbs? Thank you
  6. Is there a difference between regular and organic? Mine was the blue bag, and I did rinse it.
  7. OK, this was my first purposely gluten-free meal. I tred Tinkyada pasta, because I heard so much about it here. I got organic brown rice. Even though I cooked it LESS than the package states, it was still mushy and had that pasta film on it. Did I do something wrong, or is this as good as it gets?
  8. I had a skin biopsy 2 days ago, so I am not diagnosed yet. I seem to get different kinds of rashes, maybe dependent on where on the body they are, or maybe the rash has stages? Sometimes, I have a rash the has dark red bumps. This tends to be the most itchy. I see this often on my side and near the breasts. I get single little pimple/blister like...
  9. Today will be my first official day on the diet. Cinnamon rolls is 1 of my favorite treats that I will miss. I am SO trying this recipe.
  10. Raven~ She took a sample of the rash and the skin next to it. They were concerned that the rash wasn't active enough, but I said do the test anyway. Also, the rash on my face( my main reason for seeing the derm.)they think might be something else altogether. They didn't biopsy that yet. I guess that makes sense for now. Why scar my face with a biopsy...
  11. Today I go to the dermatologist again. I should be getting a biopsy, hopefully. I just want this to be over and start healing. If by some chance it's not celiac, I need to start looking into other things. My issues mostly involve my skin, but they more and more I read about celiac, the more I think, "That sounds like me."
  12. Aside from whatver might be going on with gluten, if your calores are closer to 900, that's not enough. For some people, if you don't eat enough your body will store weight. You may actually need to eat more. Certainly make sure you aren't skipping meals.
  13. I'm not gluten-free yet, but practicing. I'm going to a party tonight and figured it would be a good time to try something. Plus, they'll be some GFers there. Any suggestions?
  14. Waiting for official dignosis. Going for dh biopsy on 11/24.

  15. Hi everyone! Sorry! I live in Central NJ. I guess I'm allowed to post the name??? It's in Ford's NJ and it's called "Fallon's Gluten Free Bakery." If you Goolge it, there was an article in thnt.com yesterday. It took me probably about 8 minutes to get there. I just got a loaf of bread which was $7. Seemed a bit expensive, but I think you can pay that...
  16. Again~ Still waiting on my diagnosis, but I am starting to prepare myself, and learn about my diet options. Someone just told me a few weeks ago about a bakery that opened a few months ago that is gluten-free. It gets rave reviews and is about 3 miles from my house. I'm not even sure what I'm going to get, but I want to take a look. Yesterday, there...
  17. I haven't been diagnosed yet, so I haven't come across this yet. Though I think my family will be supportive. Not to excuse it, but I wonder if it's a generational thing? Meaning, allergies and food intolerances weren't as prevalent or at least as recognized years ago? I wonder if the older generation thinks it's all bunk? It's still hard to believe...
  18. Something is not agreeing with him. Just know that even if a test for celiac comes out negative, he could still have it. If they can't find a cause, try eliminating gluten and see what happens. Could luck. Poor kid.
  19. How long does this bread stay fresh? Is it good for everyday sandwich making?
  20. I am still waiting on my dignosis, via my dermatologist. A face rash (and years of other rashes) brought me there. I go back next week for a biopsy. Assuming I get my positive diagnosis, which is more accurate with a rash to biopsy, do I need to see other doctors? My GI symptoms aren't too bad. I thought they were "normal" until I started reading...
  21. Forgot to mention until I saw else mention the same thing...I also get numbness and tingling in my face.
  22. I have yet to be diagnosed with celiac. For years, I have been worried that I might have MS. My right hand (I'm a righty) is the worst. I experience what to me sounds like a description of carpal tunnel. I have pain and numbness in my hand, wrist and sometimes my arm, especially at night. Sometimes I get it in my left arm as well. Always seems worse...
  23. From what I understand, I'm at some sort of advantage having suspected dh. (It's on my face, but oh well.) I hear the biopsy is pretty conclusive. So, what's the likely scenerio for my testing? Do they numb the area, then cut? Will I need stitches? How about the blood work? Is it a series of tests? On one hand, I'm glad my testing is the day before Thanksgiving...
  24. I know I have to eat some gluten for accurate testing, but would it hurt to cut down? I figure it certainly wouldn't make me feel worse. It would also be helpful in several ways to slowly start making "the switch" I'm almost certain I'm going to do. Basically, I've bought several gluten-free cereals and bread to replace most of my breakfasts and lunches...
  25. Ironic, because I bought my 1st gluten-free bread today. It was Ener G Tapioca. I thought it was pretty good.
