  1. I emailed Equal Exchange about their teas, since their Earl Grey is my favorite and I like what they stand for. I asked them about wheat being used in tea bag glue and this was their response: "Hi Jessica, Thank you for your question to Equal Exchange regarding the use of gluten in tea bag glue. As our current line of tea is packed in India, I would...
  2. I've also had some neuro symptoms that I didn't realize were connected to Celiac until now! I'm only 28 and I have a B.A. but I also have memory problems, brain fog, mental tiredness, and problems remembering names of things. I also have emotional fogginess too - I feel ambivalent about most things but then silly sappy movies can get me teared up. I was...
  3. Well the Tinkyada pasta was a hit! It tasted really good and my bf said it tasted just like regular pasta. Yay! Gluten-Free chicken meatballs from TJ's was good also. I improv'd a dessert as well - chopped up two green apples, put them in 2 ramekins, topped with cinnamon, b.sugar, and a pad of butter. Put them in my toaster oven at 350 while the pasta was...
  4. Yup, I've been a fan of his for a while now - my boyfriend introduced me to his original blog a few years ago.
  5. You're a fan of Big Red Kitty?
  6. So, it's been about a week and a half since I was diagnosed and I am curious as to if there are any herbs, vitamins, oils, teas, etc etc that I should be taking to speed up the healing process and ease my symptoms while my body is adjusting to being gluten free. I bought a gluten-free gummy multivitamin (VitaFusion) today at the grocery store and I'm going...
  7. I thought it might be fun if we had a thread where we shared what we're cooking up for dinner:) I am not an experienced cook so coming up with gluten free menus for me and my boyfriend feels like a challenge. It's also weird since I only started eating meat since my diagnosis, so I have 0 experience preparing meat. Tonight I'm going to try that Tinkyada...
  8. Last night was a bit better. Yesterday I just had 3/4ths of a banana with some peanutbutter and honey for breakfast/lunch and then at around 7:30 I had about 1.5cups of plain brown rice. Then I had a cup of ginger tea and 1 vanilla gluten-free merenge cookie from TJ's at about 9pm. Then at about 11pm I took a dose of Pepto. I had some discomfort while trying...
  9. The grits were Quaker's and the ingredient list looked gluten-free, and I had done a search on this board and it seemed like most people here could eat it and be okay. I guess their could have been a chance for CC at TG even though everyone was so careful. I have been avoiding it at home - we threw out old wooden spoons, changed cutting boards, pots and...
  10. Last night was troublesome again, but not as bad as the previous night. All I had to eat that day was some instant grits at about 1pm (slept in late sine we didn't get home from the hospital until about 6am) and then at about 9pm I had a baked potato with some salt and butter, and a gingerale since I had been feeling nauseous. When we went to bed I...
  11. The ham I had was Open Original Shared Link but I only had a few bites. I don't eat that much - not much of an appetite for these past few months. I only started eating meat recently since my diagnosis so I haven't had any hot dogs or cold cuts or anything. The bacon I had was from Trader Joe's and said it was nitrate/antibiotic/etcetc free, and I've been...
  12. So last night I had a trip to the hospital at about 1:30am and I'm a bit baffled as to what happened to me. I was feeling nauseous and my stomach was hurting as I was trying to fall asleep, but that isn't news to me. But at about 1am I started feeling worse, the back of my head had that white-noise sparkler feeling like if I moved I would pass out, my heart...
  13. I have bought from Adagio before and liked their teas, and they're cheaper than Teavana. They say they are gluten free on their website Open Original Shared Link however I have not tried them yet since being diagnosed.
  14. You are right to feel hurt, I would be! This sounds like there are some other issues going on and they're just using gluten-free as a scapegoat. It's about them. Maybe you and your hubby can go somewhere special that night to have fun, or volunteer at a homeless shelter or something
  15. Yup, I had tons of nausea. First it was off and on, maybe just after eating.. but then it got so that I was always nauseous. I've been working on being gluten-free for about 3 days now and since I've started, it's gone down some.
  16. I'm sensitive to dairy as well, though I seem to be able to tolerate Goat Milk without side effects. That might be an option for you, perhaps?
  17. This is what I'm going to try. I'm making a test pie tomorrow using this recipe more or less: Open Original Shared Link
  18. I felt like crying, but I think I just whimpered! Luckily my boyfriend was with me at the time and he is very supportive. He just wants me to feel better.
  19. I am going to try this gluten-free pie myself: Open Original Shared Link it's basially normal pumpkin pie but with crushed gluten-free ginger snapps as the crust. I think I'll actually like that better than regular crust! Pumpkin is pretty healthy I think and she might be able to eat that okay, though I'm not sure since you said she had problems with eggs...
  20. Well I spend about 4 hours between Trader Joe's and Whole Foods today I much prefer TJ's - the store has a better layout, doesn't feel as crowded, and it's sooo much cheaper! Plus TJ's has so many gluten-free options. Things that are gluten-free have little "G" icons that are easy to see - awesome! Plus they printed out their list of gluten-free foods as...
  21. Also, I did post on Facebook about it. I wanted to just get it over with and try and avoid any awkwardness in the future (especially with the holidays coming up). So far everyone's been pretty understanding and supportive.
  22. I was just diagnosed a few days ago. Welcome fellow newbie! I have not replaced my toaster.. I am undecided about it. It's a toaster oven, so I'm thinking I should be okay if I keep the grate clean or put foil underneath things I toast. I know you must be overwhelmed. I was. I still am! My boyfriend got this book for me and it's been pretty helpful...
  23. I found Udi's white bread in the frozen section of Trader Joe's today. This was the first gluten-free bread I've ever tasted. I was bracing myself for nasty, but it's actually not bad! I'm not normally a plain white bread type of girl, though, so I'm hoping I can find more interesting concoctions. But this bread would totally work for a sandwich, I think...
  24. I haven't lost any weight really - I've stayed about the same for years which can be a bummer when exercising and nothing really happens. But I haven't had problems with D - if anything it's C. Is there a celiac food review source somewhere, I wonder?
